I deserved something nice. I loved those sunglasses. Recently, during the typical chaos of taking an almost-14-month-old to the park, they were misplaced. Somewhere between snacks, toys, stroller straps, and a fussy toddler, they disappeared. I reached out to KREWE to ask about their replacement warranty, and they explained that the warranty only applies to damaged frames that can be sent in for repair. I was devastated. They kindly offered me a 20% discount toward a replacement pair, but I decided to explain my situation a little further. Buying another expensive pair of sunglasses just isn't realistic for me right now. As a single mom, these were truly one of the nicest things I've bought myself in a very long time. And ironically, my daughter was the one who misplaced them -- let this be your reminder to never hand a toddler something valuable, no matter how fussy they are. Within an hour, I received another email from KREWE telling me not to worry -- they would be sending me a replacement pair free of charge. I genuinely broke down crying. It's so rare these days for brands to look beyond dollar signs and treat customers like actual people. That kindness meant more to me than they probably realize. My replacement pair arrived in the mail today, and I'll recommend KREWE forever. Not just because the quality is incredible, but because kindness like that matters.

We visited while wandering around for my friend's bachelorette party, and the people working went above and beyond to give us a memorable time. While our group tried on sunglasses, Tim offered us frosé and another woman working even popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate with us! I was blown away at how stopping into a store turned into one of the highlights of our trip.

We thought maybe google was wrong but it was trying to get us to the open location. Midday and the first location we found was closed. My wife had heard of this place and as she doesn't really request many things to do or go too we made it a point to check it out. It is small but full of stuff, dresses, jewelry, purses, Halloween costumes! They had some great earrings and she got quite a few as well as a purse that looks like a tape deck radio/Boombox. She tried on a few dresses but couldn't quite find one she liked, but was excited they had dresses in all shapes, styles, and sizes! This close to Halloween and with the Halloween parade either that day or the next the Halloween costumes left were few but still some good ones. They had two dressing rooms, but there was storage in one of them so if the store needed something while you were in that dressing room you had to get dressed fast and let them through as soon as you could. It was fun and full of character, some earrings she found look like goldfish in a bag of water, Some cool skeleton hands to go with her Pharmacy Museum shirt, as well as some skulls and a few others. There was a sale of buy one get half off second. She finally told me I had to make her leave or she would spend all the money. To quote her: Shana: "My thoughts? I LOVED IT!"

Coats, capes, shirts, shoes, jackets, goth, steampunk--it's all there and very cool. The two women that helped me were also friendly and knew the product and the fitting room is as stylish as the rest of the place. My issue is that I wanted a different size of something in stock and left my number on a peice of paper to get a call later (I haven't gotten a call, but it might just not be back in stock, so no big deal). I was hoping I could simply check back online, but the web page is a seldom-updated disaster. So, I loved the shop, and I'll be back when I'm in NOLA, but I'd also love it if I could buy stuff from NY State, where I live, and just have it shipped. Clean up the web page so I can do that?

They'll help you find the clothes you want in the sizes they have. Prices are high at Road Kill, but that's to be expected with the level of quality you're going to be getting out of your clothes. In our last visit, my wife found a beautiful and colorful set of boots, made with genuine leather. They were cool, comfy, and around $150. Which might be high for some, but honestly, we thought it was an excellent deal. Whether you need to dress up for a special night, or need to expand your already magnificent wardrobe, Road Kill has got you covered.

This past year I've had a thing for purchasing copper jewelry- most bracelets from South Korea, Mexico City, Tijuana and Mt. Charleston. Wondered if anyone ever made copper necklaces. Congested with wandering tourists, most of the vendors sell items that could be found at any flea market in the country. A lot of the souvenirs and clothing fell way short in reflecting authentic New Orleans craftsmanship. I was hoping for a market more along the lines of Barcelona's La Boqueria with bounties of fresh produce and appetizing edibles, but there was just a row of fast food kiosks beyond the beignets at Cafe du Monde. Without a doubt, the highlight of the market was the strolling groups of musicians randomly playing jazz to enraptured tourists. RELATED - Exploring New Orleans?
