I've been to all the salons in the lower Haight / Divis NOPA area and this one is a hidden gem. I walked right in, sat next to the window for some people watching at The Mill across the street, and was treated to a truly lovely experience. For example: the foot scrub and long massage included in basic pedicure price ($40), the care and attention to detail of nail shape, and the thoughtfulness to help put on my socks at the end (I'm 9 months pregnant). Do not come here for gel x removal or manicures!! I came recently to get my gel x removed and a reg manicure afterwards. She said she could do it but they are completely unequipped to do so. She dunked my hands in bowls of acetone, and proceeded to peel back my extensions with a cuticle cutter. It obviously didn't work well and was ripping off layers of my actual nails. She even ripped off a good chunk of my pinky nail that was still stuck to the extension and then told me I should just cut my nails short instead of keeping the length which is what I originally wanted. To top it off, the manicure was sooo subpar just like the other reviews and pictures mention. She kept getting it on my skin and not cleaning it up until I repeatedly asked her to. I've come before for a pedicure and those are fine. So if you come I would only recommend a pedicure but no color because it's never good. Definitely not coming back here though. read more

Terrible manicure, not only was it sloppily done, she made two of my fingers bleed when cutting my cuticles! The rest of my fingers likely had micro-cuts from the aggressive cuticle cutting because they were hurting for a full day afterwards whenever my hands got wet or when they rubbed against something. As you can see from the photo, the edges are sloppily painted, and there's the dried blood visible (I had already washed my hand before taking the photo, there was a lot more blood). She also didn't apologize at all when I brought it up. On the positive side, she was nice otherwise and it was affordable ($40 for mani pedi), but definitely not worth it, will not be coming back. read more

The girls here are sweet and attentive, and very careful when scrubbing, clipping, massaging and painting. In my case they needn't have been - it had been 8 weeks since my last pedi; sand-blasting wouldn't have hurt my feet - but it was nice all the same. Nothing worse than being repetitively stabbed with pedi tools, trying not to be a wimp when you really just want to plead, 'Stop being so mean to my skin!!!!' I was excited about going here because of all the great reviews. unfortunately, the job wasn't done well. i don't know if it was because they were rushed or what, but my gel manicure turned out completely sloppy. I chose a sheer skin colored polish and it ended up all over my cuticles. i still can see the sloppy job, ladies, even if it's an almost transparent polish-- especially with gel. There's bubbles in at least 3 nails and bits of the previous polish in a couple as well. rushed job! I'd much rather they tell me they are busy than make me pay $30 for something i won't be happy with. also-- please don't assume i want square tips! i went in with a nice length of my natural nail shape and she just went to town with the file and started squaring them up. which i didn't like, which meant she had to round them again which left me with totally short nails. ah well. it shouldn't be so hard to find a place to do a good neat gel mani, should it? one star for politeness and water/tea offered. read more

Alas, this is what happens after a neighborhood nail salon skyrockets in popularity. Tammy and her sister (co-owners) used to know me by name and warmly welcomed me for over a year, even sharing in snacks and meals when I was the only one there. I would make an extra effort to get to Sunflowers before they closed, forgoing the other conveniently located nail salon that's a block from my apt. As far as nail salons go, I felt fiercely loyal and would bring all the gal pals to Divis for some pampering. Nowadays, it's a rotating door of nail technicians who are all perfectly friendly but customer service is a shadow of its former self. More often than not, the gel manis start to chip before two weeks but the thing that irks me the most is their current policy with punch cards. I happened to have two cards half filled and the employee insisted that I couldn't combine them. With 10 stamps, it's only $10 off a service so it feels like a particularly stingy "rule." I still love their selection of colors, the fab prices, complimentary tea/water and sunscreen applied before gel manis but there's definitely areas of improvement. I hope Tammy and her sis come by more often to maintain what it used to be in its first year. read more

Lan and Phuong are the sweetest. They are efficient and detailed. My toes and fingers are clean and soft! I recommend their manicure ($10) and deluxe pedicure ($25). $35 is great price for SF. Gel manicure ($25) last about 2-3 weeks, which I love and appreciate. Pedicure is 3-4 weeks. They do a quality work! Hot tea and water are offered. Use the massage chairs. The people here are really nice and the price of getting a simple one color gel manicure ($25) and regular pedicure ($20) are really cheap! After helping my cousin move to the city, we figured we'd pamper ourselves to some mani/pedi's. I guess I should have been more cautious BECAUSE the pricing was really cheap (compared to other nail places in SF). I figured it couldn't be that bad with the "four" star rating...so wrong. Again, the people are super nice, offer you water or tea upon arrival! The guy that did my pedicure, he was very meticulous (which was great)! However the lady that did my nails, she was a bit hasty? This sister owned (Cindy and Tammy) business is a super find. I think it's the best nail salon in the neighborhood by far. I was so happy with the shape of my nails after my manicure. The Gel manicure lasted 4 weeks without a single chip. I still can't believe it. If only my nails didn't grow who knows how much longer I could have kept this manicure going. My hair was all over the place. I felt like she was so unprofessional. To top it off I walk out with stripes on my hair of wax how can they not see that and tell me. Hoped this place would be better. A friend and I wanted to gel manicures somewhere close and convenient to our apartments, and due to the slew of nail places on Divisadero, found Sunflowers. It was cute and clean, and it was easy to make an appointment. The salon is quiet and peaceful, partially because it is pretty small. The ladies were very nice and sweet, offering us water and tea. There was just so much confusion--they gave my friend the wrong color, painted multiple coats on me when i didn't ask for it, took over an hour and a half, and it was just not a good job. Most disappointingly of all, my nails have peeled clear off...three days later. Even when she guaranteed "2-3 weeks" I gave it a try, but i'll stick to my usual place from now on. read more

If you asked me last month what I thought of this place, I would have given it 5 stars. After my experience earlier today, I'm giving them a 1 star. Don't be deceived by this place....they are not as clean as the other reviews have said. When I came here for a mani/pedi, I noticed the lady wasn't using gloves to work on my feet. I just ignored it thinking no big deal...maybe not all places use gloves. Another lady was working on my mani. However, when 2 other customers walked in, the lady doing my feet went over to work on them, and THEN decided to put on gloves (i thought that was kind of odd). Then the lady doing my mani finished off my pedicure. After she was done, she went to the sanitizer area and I noticed she threw the supplies into the sanitizer machine, but wiped her hands with the same towel she used to dry my feet!! She then went over to the other customer and started working on her mani....NEVER DID SHE EVER WASH HER HANDS after touching my feet!! I saw it with my own eyes. The water faucet never turned on and she never washed her hands. I was disgusted!!! I told the lady I didn't see her wash her hands (i couldn't keep it in...i was trying to protect the customer next to me). Then the worker behind the desk insisted that the lady washed her hands. BUT, how could the desk lady know she washed her hands if she was busy cutting lemons and her back was facing the sanitizer area the whole time?!?! And how come the lady who didn't wash her hands never said a word back to me and just continued with that customer's manicure?! The desk lady continued to argue with me, and she told me "Don't ever come back here again. I don't want to ever see you in here. You are rude and just accusing my clients ." I replied, "I don't ever plan to come back here. You guys don't wash your hands!" I was mortified at my experience, when all I was trying to do was the right thing. If I see something wrong, I'm gonna say and do something about it, and I would hope someone would do the same for me. After 10 years of living in San Francisco, I have finally found my go-to nail salon. I get my gel manicure here every couple weeks. Sunflower Nails is a hidden gem of a nail salon. They are the cleanest nail salon I have gone to to date and they offer the best service. They will offer you a hot tea or bottle of water before you start getting your nails done. They also have a customer punch card so if you are a regular and you go a certain number of times, you can get a free nail service. They also have a wide variety of regular nail polish and gel nail polish colors to choose from. Sunflower also offers a relaxing environment. While they are popular, they never make you feel like they are rushing so they can get to the next person. They take pride in their business and it shows. No idea what these 1 star reviews about them being unclean are about. The girls at Sunflower Nails are incredibly clean, professional and friendly. I was hesitant about writing a review about Sunflower Nails because I wanted to keep it a neighborhood secret but they are too good not to praise. As long as I live in San Francisco, I will be going to Sunflower for all my nail needs. read more

**UPDATED: 10/9/17** I've been coming to Sunflower Nails since 2014, except that one time when they were opened an hour later than supposed to and I ended up going to a nearby salon that didn't even do a good job. For the last 6 months, I've come in with my guy friend, my aunt, and even my mom's been going because I rave about this place too much Tammy knows how to treat a girl, who spends wayyyy too much time on her feet literally (I work at Starbucks). I love getting their deluxe pedicure, due to the "health violations" that having a manicure would get my store into. Foot soak/ scrub, hot towel and moisturizing massage, and the upgraded massage chairs... for $22?? And they do a great job?? YES!!!! Add gel nails to your deluxe pedicure rolls around $62, but it lasts almost a month and Sunflower Nails has a great variety of colors and brands. For those bringing guy friends/ boyfriends/ significant others, don't be embarrassed... you guys need love too! My guy friend (he's straight btw) loves coming in here, as he's self-conscious about his toes and loves the care Sunflower Nails gives him. Last time, I was there with my aunt, Tammy asked where he was Anyways, service and bang for your buck is 5 stars! The only reason the review is 4 stars is because when I came in with my aunt, she was really upset that she ended paying for gel deluxe pedicure ($62), when she only wanted the regular deluxe pedicure ($22). By then, I've already checked Yelp and figured the hours weren't updated, but then checked the time... 1:17pm! Being very desperate for a pedicure at this point, I settled to go two doors down to Le Trend Nails Salon (typing this review as I get my spa pedicure, which I will review on Le Trend's Yelp page soon). BUT!!!! Before I this gets too depressing of a review, I'm glad that at 1:41pm while I'm here at Le Trend, Sunflowers Nails called me back and kindly apologized for all the mishap. The only thing I wish I would have known before hand, is the time. I spent over 1.5hrs there for a mani-pedi. I get super antsy sitting for too long, especially with nothing to occupy me, but they had some nice Christmas music on and I was people watching out of the window. But my nails look great and very clean. They weren't very busy while I was there. I did think it was very sweet when two little girls came in with their mom and the owners gave them some candy. They said that the girls come in everyday for the candy. It was cute and they were so sweet to the kids. Overall, I think it's a great neighborhood nail salon. Not a "boutique spa" but that's ok. I have had good pedis here in the past BUT- went today and the gal cut my nails criminally short AND several nails (including big toe) were crooked. My tootsies hurt and that is not a GOOD thing ;( DOWNGRADED to ONE STAR A couple of reviews mentioned that they were asked if they lived here or were visiting, and that they were overcharged when they said they were visiting. I, too was asked one question by the staff. Not, "Do you have something special to look nice for"?. or "What do you do"? but the one question was indeed, where did I live. no follow-up, "Oh how long have you lived here"? or anything. I was seated in a comfy chair as soon as I came in; the staff is super friendly, the prices are reasonable, and my shellac manicure (they have a bazillion color choices!) lasted the advertised two weeks. Here I was, thinking about where to find a place to introduce my boyf's mom to the wonderful world of manicures, and there's a highly rated one less than a city block away! When we walked in, the two ladies immediately took care of us, sat us down, and brought us tea. Even though we were getting the regular manicures, we got warm citrus lotion hand massages and a little shoulder massage. They did a great job applying the polish and fixed up a little smear when the boy's mom reached into her pocket. It's also crazy affordable - $10 for a regular and $15 with paraffin and massage and which is what I actually thought I'd received. But I guess it gets even fancier! read more

This is my favorite place for manicures and pedicures, hands down. The ladies pay such attention to detail so there's not a cuticle out of place or a speck of dust on the polish. A regular manicure will last a week for me without chipping because they use high quality products (try the OPI with extra shine! It's worth the extra couple dollars). They're friendly and remember your preferences on nail shape and services. Prices are really reasonable. The new massage chairs are delightful. I have been going here for 4+ years, about once a month, and haven't had a single bad experience. I would recommend you go in knowing it will take more than an hour for a mani-pedi, especially if they're busy, since they are meticulous, but I'd rather them take their time for the excellent work they do. It chipped the next day from being too weak even with coats of gel on top, and some nails are still sharp because she didn't file it down. I paid $40 (plus tip) for this??!!! Jesus. I came here because I wanted to go sonewhere where they do the individual tubs. They had good reviews but they weren't the cleanest. The woman dropped one of her tools on the ground and just picked it up off the floor worth her gloved hand) and put it next to her tools she was using and continues to use it. (State Board protocol requires you pick up soiled tools with a tissue or gloved hand, throwing that glove away afterwards, not continue to use it, and immediately sanitize that tool. This place is awesome - seriously a little sanctuary in the middle of crazy Divis. First of all, they are EXCELLENT at what they do - there are some many nice little touches like sunscreen on my hands while getting a gel mani (for under the UV light), plus fresh cut fruit in the water to soak in for my pedi. They have 3 different pedi's to choose from and give such a great foot and leg massage. But the best part is that they are just so nice. They always remember me when I come in, they even wave and say hello when I'm just walking by. The place is spotless - super clean which is impressive because it's also tiny. I think the word is getting out becasue sometimes they're a litte busy - so I just call before I come and they let me know - come now, wait 20 mins etc. What more could I want? The massage chair was broken and wouldn't move the massage knobs out if the middle of my back. This kinda ruined my pedi experience. Also at that price point I've come to expect a simple cup of hot tea. None here, just a mini water bottle. Also 2 days later and the mani is starting to chip. Yikes.
