It is a little like dating the restaurant: before I commit to the whole menu, let me see how you handle the basics. If you can make simple food well, then I begin to trust you. I relax. I get curious. Then, before you know it, I'm falling in love and planning our next date! Fresh Chef made a very good first impression. The eggs were fluffy and cooked to perfection. The sourdough toast was toasted just right, with a beautifully balanced flavor that didn't overpower the rest of the plate. But those breakfast potatoes? Baby, they were the star! Crispy and golden on the outside, tender enough to melt in your mouth on the inside. I added onions and bell peppers, and next time I'll ask for extra because they belonged together. Let those onions and peppers come on out and join the party! The bacon was a good-quality cut--not thin, cheap, or pretending to be pork. As a genuine pork lover, I appreciate that. The coffee was good, too. My waiter was exceptional. I didn't catch the young man's name, but he made sure I had everything I needed while still giving me room to enjoy my breakfast. He was warm, attentive, and perfectly timed without hovering. That kind of service deserves to be recognized. Then I noticed the manager wearing a shirt from my favorite team. Well, that certainly didn't hurt the courtship! Roll Tide! Fresh Chef and I have had our first date, and I must say--it went very well. Now I need to return for dinner and see whether this little breakfast flirtation turns into a full-blown love affair. I then had to wait 5-8 minutes while the second customer slowly decided on ingredients and changed her mind multiple times. The person behind me got almost full uninterrupted service while I -- the first customer in line -- was left standing there waiting. What made it even worse was the manager's response. He defended the employee, told me she "did nothing wrong," and completely dismissed my frustration with a "have a nice evening." The issue wasn't just the wait. It was being skipped over and then treated like my frustration didn't matter. I've been there around 5 times in the last month, but after this experience, I will never return.
