I LOVE SUNDANCE SALOON! I have been going to Sundance on and off for about a year now, and every time I go I have an absolute blast! On Sundays, they have a beginner two-step lesson, followed by a line dance lesson. They teach two line dances every week - one beginner and one intermediate. The lessons are held in separate rooms, and you can choose which lesson to take based on your own skill level. After the lessons are all done, open dancing starts. The music is a mixture of 2-step, waltz, and even some swing. Every so often they take a break for a couple of line dances. The more regularly you go, the more line dances you'll learn, which makes for an even more enjoyable experience because you can participate more! Even if you don't know any of the line dances, you will still have a great time. The crowd is very welcoming and drama-free; everyone is there to have a good time, no diva-like attitudes here. Another bonus: Sundance is involved in a lot of charitable work, which I happen to think is AWESOME. Seriously, everyone needs to check this place out. It's the best! read more

What a great way to spend a Sunday evening. The crowd is friendly and inclusive. The instructors are great . Come on down !

I've been coming to Sundance Saloon for 10 years! Very low cover, dance lessons included, nice mix of line dances and partner dances. Friendly people! read more

So welcoming, safe and fun. I was a total beginner and went with my boyfriend (who can swing) and was asked to dance by several other patrons just being super kind and welcoming. Thank you for such a lovely and fun date night! read more

I think if I had gotten there a little earlier in the evening, I would've gotten a lot more dances in. But I heard there was a "Gay cowboy" bar in the area while I was visiting SF and had to visit! Crowd and staff were all incredibly friendly (introduced themselves, asked my name/to dance, etc.), and the space is pretty big - main bar in one room, separate dance hall with a stage (and side bar) in the other! They also converted (what I think was) their parking lot to an outdoor "patio" so ppl could drink and take their masks off in this pandemic living we're in (they also ask for vaccine status and ID at the door, which is in my book)! read more

So welcoming! Doesn't matter your orientation, culture, ethnicity, skill level... everyone is very friendly. Community type feel! Lessons every Thursday and Wednesday hosted in two different rooms depending on what kind of dancing you're interested in. read more

A club that put the SSSS in Social. The 2 Stepping, the waltzing, the line dancing and the west and east coast swing. The guys are down-to-earth and fun to dance with. Don't know how to dance , no worries they have lessons. read more

So. Much. Fun. I didn't know much about dancing and went to Sundance Saloon, mostly out of curiosity. I thought I'd just observe for the first visit, but I took the beginners lesson and by the end of the night I was really dancing! Really nice people and fun scene. All kinds of people, mostly LGBT but not exclusively. read more

I've died and gone to country heaven!!! I had sooooo much fun here with my fabulously gay co-worker. We showed up for the line dancing lessons, fully dressed in my western wear: vintage boots and cowboy hat... hey, they wanted country and they got it! The whole set up is non-profit and volunteer based so there's a $5 fee at the door. We entered the beginner room, just as they were finishing a fun little country number. We apparently got there just in time for "She Bangs", which was a pretty complicated one I'd have to say. As I concentrated on my steps, I heard country songs crooning in the intermediate room and longed to be there. But first things first... I got Ricky down and felt pretty darn proud of myself. At 6:45, they moved everyone into the big dance room and taught us another one with twirls, stomps, kicks and all! The scene was totally Broke Back Mountain comes to life: strapping studs in tight jeans, flannels, and cowboy hats... spinning like tops and two-stepping in sync. Ladies, men can dance if they really wanted to... these guys proved it! They had perfect rhythm, knew every dance, and even added a dramatic stomp or kick from time to time. Some of the dances were fun (line dances), romantic (waltzes, two-steps), and just down right sexy (the shadow, Midnight waltz). Everyone was having a great time and even though I was fumbling around trying to get the hang of things, no one paid me any mind. In fact, they were really eager to help! I had a few gentlemen ask me to dance and I followed their lead, but I also had a chance to sit back and just watch these cowboys work the room. They've added Thursday night to the line-up, featuring more line dances and country chaos, so I'll be sure to check that one out as well. Finally, country in the city... with a kick! read more

Yes, it's mostly boys... but if you country lovin' girls (you know who you are!) would show up then we could all have some fun together! The line dancing lessons are fun... the boys never seem to mind dancing with the few girls who do show up... and the two-stepping is fantastic, even if you're not participating! (why aren't you participating? You know you want to ask that cute boy to dance... what? You're a follower? You can still ask him, he won't mind!) They dance on Thursday nights too... (one start less because the music is sometimes a little bit dated... but they are getting better with that so I might revise this later) read more

My wife and I recently moved to the Bay Area from Texas and have been itching for some country dancing. We've been to some "country" bars in the city and in the east bay, but nobody there even knew what two stepping was! We found Sundance online and went there this past Thursday to try it out. We had a BLAST. There's a $5 cover on Thursdays, which also gets you a raffle ticket (they give out prizes each night). All of the staff/volunteers were super friendly and helpful, filling us in on what we can find there in the way of dance/drink/etc. We arrived just in time (7pm) for an intermediate level Country Waltz lesson. The instructor was very good and clearly knew his stuff. We learned a lot in that 40 minutes of lesson. We are excited to come back for more lessons in the future. I can't speak to the drinks and prices thereof, since we were sober that evening. However, there were plenty of people walking around with beers and no line at the bar, so it seems there is not a long wait for drinks. Our only qualm was the area. You have to park on the street, and though there is good enough lighting on the side walk we still didn't love the area. That being said, just walk with purpose and with a friend and play it cool. This place is definitely worth checking out! read more

Love love LOVE this place! I have been going for a little bit now...maybe about five or six lessons on and off. I must say that I do love this place. The people here are so amazingly friendly and wonderful, and they always seem to be so cheerful. While it might still be a little clic-ish, they open them up wonderfully. Most gay bars/clubs, you wouldn't dare ask anyone to dance, in fear that they would reject you and laugh. Here, it's almost like you feel the need to do that. Check it out. They even have lessons for those who aren't quite sure what they're doing. And if you happen to come, be sure to ask me to dance. I'll be the insanely tall one (I'm about 6'8" in my boots). read more

I am HOOKED on country-western dancing, thanks to Sundance! I started going back in May and I can't get enough. Sunday nights are a hoot and a half... it all starts with beginner two stepping lessons, followed by a line dance lesson. Later on in the evening they play the song for the line dance you just learned, and you feel oh so cool rockin' out to it! I've recently moved onto intermediate two-stepping lessons, which are offered on Thursdays. Thursdays are a bit of a different vibe... fewer folks but just as fun and a line dance is taught too. Not only is the dancing instruction radtastic, but the community is just amazing. I went for the first time not knowing a single person, and was welcomed in with open arms. I don't know how or why, but Sundance just attracts the friendliest peeps around! Looking forward to Pride festivities and the infamous Stompede in October (full weekend of lessons and dancing with folks coming in from all over!). Big shout out to all the volunteers to make this happen! read more

My review of Sundance was evidently removed because someone thought it was fabricated to boost Sundance's reputation. I am a real person and this is my honest review!!!! I've learned more than just dance steps at Sundance Saloon. I also discovered the most wonderful friends. My best friend from Sundance, Jim, has offered to accompany me to a stessful and important medical appointment. There is no other organization in the country that is so dedicated to cultivating meaninful relationships among gay and lesbian people. I am grateful for every person at Sundance who has danced with me and offered me friendship during difficult times. read more

This is one of my favorite things in San Francisco, that I look forward to every week! Great crowd of people that come to enjoy a mixture of line dancing, two-step, waltz, and swing dance. Same-sex dancing but also very straight friendly; overall amazingly cool and vibrant crowd of people from ages 21-81. And come on, its only $5 to get in for hours of dancing and instruction. Seriously, you don't get better then this wonderful place! read more

Before I even came into town I googled any gay country western bars. This was the one that came up. It was a bit inconvenient that it wasn't right in the city. I just ended up taking an UBER for $10 which wasn't bad at all. I thought the space/venue was great. It was very large and they had classes going on in 2 separate rooms. They did have a bar which was nice. For a Thursday there was a decent amount of people. It did suck that they closed everything down at 1030pm. People were extremely nice and asked me to dance several times. I would recommend anyone that likes country western dancing to come and have a good time. I'm looking forward to possibly coming back for Stompede! read more

Sundance Saloon - people dancing at a disco - Dance Clubs Near Me - San Francisco, California

I walked in here by mistake thinking it was a salsa night, payed and then noticed it was country western music, so I went back to ask for my money back right away and the girl at the front didn't know how to retrieve my money that I payed for both my friend and I. So she called the guy who was in charge and all he did was act like he did something on the computer and said okay you'll get your money back and gave me a fake smile. Didn't think anything of it and went home. I never got my money back. Literally wasn't even there for a minute. It's not much money but don't lie to me and tell me you gave me my money back as****. They took my credit card and charged me. Funny how they say here on yelp that they don't accept credit cards when they clearly took mine. read more

Horrible people here. When asked if I can have a active military duty discount I was looked with disgust and confusion. She the proceeded to be rude and obnoxious. Basically fuck thisnplace and the people there! read more

The place for boys who like cowboys who like boys. And some girlz, too. Very friendly crowd. Newcomers are welcome like long lost relatives. The regulars rock, they know all the line dances. The format is: dance lesson from 5:30 t0 6 (no partner necessary), a different partner dance from 6 to 6:3o, then a line dance til 7:15, then open dancing until 10:30. Phew! All for $5! It's all run by volunteers - don'tcha love that??? Be a good egg and give 'em a donation. Helps fund worthy causes like the Breast Cancer and AIDS Emergency Funds. read more

Everyone is warmly welcomed! No one is left out, no gender, no size, no age... it is by far the friendliest place to go in our community to meet people and dance and smile. You can't help but smile, everyone is smiling as they spin their partners around the dance floor. It's magic-medicine for the heart and the soul. It is a tradition at Sundance to make everyone feel welcomed. And they/we do! It is a nonprofit group established by great people who not only love dancing but place as the highest priority building a sense of community and family. We just had our yearly event called STOMPEDE... 3 1/2 days of dancing, dance workshops/classes and events. People came from around the country, from Europe and Australia. And they all remind us how fortunate we are to have this community right here for us every week. Please give yourself a gift-forget any hesitation, shyness or preconceived notions about country western music and your ability to dance. Just come by for a visit and you will be swept up, I promise. xo read more

The one place for GREAT country western dancing, GREAT instructors, GREAT music, GREAT bar staff, and GREAT FUN. Sundance Saloon (and Stompede) are filled with the kind of people you want to get to know in the city--people you want to dance with! The team that puts Sundance together on Sundays and Thursdays are incredibly energetic and keep the fun going all year long. Come out country western dancing! You won't regret it! read more

I'd been wanting to go to the Sundance based on the reviews. I love dancing. I dance salsa, duranguense, jitterbug, reggae, flamenco, belly dance, jazz, modern you name it, I dance it. I finally convinced a friend to go with me to the Sundance. Gay, straight, bi, etc. it makes no difference to us. We went for the beginning lesson. It was fun. My friend sat down during the secondary lesson, which I was willing to try. I wonderful man, who knew what he was doing, gave me some hints. Sooo nice! After the lessons, dancing proceeded. We loved the music, but didn't know the steps yet, so we danced off to the side. My friend told me that a man pushed her and told her to get out of the way because she didn't know what she was doing. So we continued to dance off to the side. Afterward, he said we needed to get off the dance floor because we didn't know what we were doing, and pushed her out of the way. When we confronted him he said it was obvious that we had something to drink. Well, guess what, they sell drinks there. My friend said she would never come back. I love the country and western and I wanted to return so I told the gentleman at the box office about our experience and he said, " Oh, that's not right." and called a manager. We told him the same and he said that we should not be on the dance floor if we didn't know what we were doing. We explained that it was out first time and that we came for beginner lessons. When I said that the experience was good and bad, but I would return if he gave me incentive, he told me that they were a non-profit and basically, he had no reason to want us to return. So I told him that we wouldn't be back. It meant nothing to him. This man had no knowledge if we were LGBT or whatever. Conclusion, whatever you identify yourself as, if you can't dance line dance DON'T GO! I'M SO DISAPPOINTED, ANGRY AND ASHAMED THAT ONE CAN'T LEARN A DANCE STYLE, HAVE A GOOD TIME, AND BE TREATED RESPECTFULLY ON THE DANCE FLOOR. SO SAD. SEXUAL IDENTITY DOESN'T MAKE ONE REAL. Sorry to say, that I would never recommend this place to anyone, sexual identity aside. So sad that this LBGT community could not accept us. Let me put it this way, although we are not LBGT, we are in total support of the that everyone must be allowed to be who they are. Question? Shouldn't that be held true at the Sundance? read more

Sundance saloon is a magical place. I had just moved back to San Francisco in October of 2010, after a fourteen year absence. I started dancing at Sundance in December. The first thing I noticed was how friendly everyone was and that no one let me stay a wall-flower, despite the fact that I really didn't know how to dance all that well. Now, more than two years later, I'm still learning to dance but, thanks to Sundance, I'm part of a wonderful community of the nicest and most attractive bunch of people in the city. Come and see for yourself. read more
