I'm convinced that people who leave poor reviews for motels don't realize what they're getting themselves into. Seaside isn't Martha's Vineyard or the Hamptons. You're not staying at the Ritz Carlton. Yes, the Sunburst Motel probably needs renovating since it was last decorated decades ago. Yes, there were cigarette burns in the bedding. However, it's clean for the most part, which can't be said about all of the motels in Seaside Heights. The bathroom was very nice. No, there isn't shampoo, body wash, or conditioner. Unfortunately, you'll have to stop by the local CVS and pick up a couple travel sized bottles. You'll survive. Some pros about our stay at Sunburst: There was a functional triple lock on the door. Definitely helps to know that we're safe. The beds were incredibly comfortable and warm despite the cigarette burn holes. That didn't really bother us too much. The bedding was clean. No bed bugs. We had a nice room with two beds, a kitchenette, TV, and refrigerator. The man who runs the front desk was very nice and helpful. I forgot to get his name but he was very friendly. It's very close to the middle of the boardwalk and beach. There was only one con about staying here. It's very loud and the walls are thin. We had noisy neighbors. Not really a fault of the motel but Seaside typically attracts the louder and younger crowd. Not a huge issue. There's also no daily maid service which doesn't bother us but I know that's a deal breaker for some. Overall, this is a comfortable, fairly clean, and safe place to stay in Seaside Heights. Again, don't come here if you're looking for a ritzy hotel. You'll definitely be disappointed. In fact, don't come to the Jersey Shore at all if you want to go somewhere classy. This isn't it. If you just want a comfortable and pleasant stay, this is a good option. Believe me, there are a lot of motels in the area that are in horrible condition and I would not feel safe staying at. Sunburst isn't one of them. It deserves the four stars. The Charlroy Motel is also another family friendly option in the area. More expensive and on the quieter side of town but worth the money. They were booked for the summer so Sunburst was our next option and they didn't disappoint! read more

Went to Seaside Heights on a spontaneous overnight trip. Found a convenient parking lot next to beach. I asked parking attendant for motel recommendations. He gave Sunburst a thumbs up. Nice simple room, refrigerator, working AC. Clean room and bathroom! The pool is heated and great for evening use! Tyler, was very accommodating and gave us great restaurant recommendations! This motel was a total disappointment. The pros are that they had great A/C and we could get all of the towels we needed. The rest of it was the "NO MOTEL," meaning that there was no housekeeping because of Covid - an excuse, which had been used to death without reason. There was no shampoo, no conditioner, no lotion, no tissues, no coffee maker or coffee in the office in the AM, no hooks or towel bars in the bathroom, which was cramped and no beach badges. The water pressure in the shower was very low. The place could have been considerably cleaner. When booking, I asked for a first floor room. Our room was right on the street level on a busy street and perpendicular to a noisy parking lot. It was very noisy, especially at night when we were trying to sleep. There was no assigned parking spot for our room, which I was NOT informed of when I made our reservation. There was a lot about a block away from our room but we were uncomfortable leaving our car there. We could park in front of the hotel, where we felt more secure, IF there was an open spot among the few that were located there. This was an exceedingly poor deal considering what they charge for the meager accommodations without amenities. read more

We will definitely stay here again and again! Butch, Jojo, Tyler were very accommodating for our family. Skipper and Mr Fisher the motel dog mascots are also a pleasure. Just 1 block from the boardwalk and 2 blocks to the rides and games. Serving bagels and coffee in the morning and pizza by the pool on Thursday's. We came for Easter weekend and the rides were up and running. With Seaside bringing more events this summer, we are excited to come back considering the Boardwalk looks better than ever. To the folks that rated this place a 4-5 star review ...how much did you get paid to do So?! Management (family owned ) is only faux friendly. Make a complaint and he turns into the real thing, a very poor excuse of a manager. Customer service suddenly vanished. Be sure to continue reading the reviews before you book here. It hasn't been updated since the 80's. See pictures to follow. Bedspread had burn holes in them. They immediately went to the floor for me to walk on since the nasty carpet wasn't going to touch my feet. Immediately took all the towels and lined the horrible upholstered 80's furniture and only sat there as needed. The dining table was no more then a card table and the TV was the size of my computer monitor. When we checked in the manager explained there was a 'family oriented biker group' on the same level with us but to have no worries. From 9-1:00 a.m they (20 of them) partied loud 3 ft from our front door. They knocked and asked us to join them. HA! I called the office , no answer . In the morning Went down to get coffee from the office (no coffee in room!!) and he greeted us with a very happy 'Good Morning' and I said 'this room Is not an option for one more night'. He then turned into a very cold stoned faced uppity thing BUT he did return our money for the next night stay. No words spoken. We, by the way, are two 64 year old women. His lack of judgement on the room he put us in was very poor and he knew it! But did that stop him? Of course not. The almighty dollar is all he's concerned with...not the comfort of his guests. My family and I booked this motel based on the excellent online ratings. We arrived late on Friday night, were out early and all day Saturday and when we returned to our room on Saturday night around 11pm, this was the first time we had a minute to actually shower, relax in the room etc. We noticed a large yellow stain covering the bedspread (you can image what I believe this stain is from), stained sheets as well as black mold growing all over the wallpaper above the shower. Please see pictures below. Besides the "gross" factor, this is extremely unhealthy and unhygienic. On top of that, my son has asthma and certainly does not need to be exposed to mold spores. Given that it was 11pm and this is a family operated place that closes down the front desk at 10pm, we decided to try to make the best of the of situation and discuss the issues in the morning, upon checkout. I brought these issues to your attention upon checkout and felt that it was fair to ask for some sort of compensation. In an extremely smug and patronizing manner, you said "absolutely not." You went on about how I should have told you sooner and I explained how we didn't notice these issues until late Saturday night and felt that it wasn't appropriate to call since the front office was already closed and we were checking out in the morning. Regardless of the "he said she said" discrepancy, we were excited to stay here because it is a family run establishment. You as the owner were so dismissive with my request for some sort of monetary compensation (I'm not sure if you have repeatedly been burned by this is the past but your immediate dismissive reaction was completely unwarranted and in my mind, actually very strange) and you repeated to state that I can't find better customer service at any other local motels, to let you know if I do and that I'm free to look and that you have enough customers (wow!). We love family run business and would never go out of our way to try to scam someone so my request for some sort of compensation is literally because there are piss stains and mold in the room, not because I just felt like it. So regardless of your insistence that I call you at 1am to discuss the situation, that isn't how the situation played out and I would have assumed that you would have understood that and done something other than told me to stay somewhere else next time and that you have enough customers. You treated me like a piece of trash just out to make a buck when in reality we chose to stay at your family run establishment because we too are a family ourselves and like to support local businesses. I asked you if you would have have been happy if this happened to your family if you were staying somewhere and you said "absolutely not." I asked if if this is an an example of good customer service, which you repeatedly prided yourself on, and you dodged that question. Even if piss and mold are not reasons enough for you to offer any compensation back (how can they not be?), there is no need to be a condescending jerk. And just as a general rule, arrogance and dismissiveness is not the answer when dealing with a customer. read more

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We stayed here out of luck because another hotel had over booked. Sunburst hotel not only made last minute accommodations at a reasonable price (4th of July weekend) but also threw in an extra night for us. The owner even gave us a small kitchenette at no extra charge. Everyone was so friendly who worked there. It was just great to feel comfortable during our stay. If you visit Seaside often you know it's hard to find a clean hotel... this one exceeded our expectations. Free bagels and coffee were also a plus. 711 right around the corner and boardwalk was about 1 block away. I would highly recommend this hotel :-) read more

My son and his friends from high school booked rooms (the entire Sunburst 1 and some rooms in Sunburst 2) for Memorial Day weekend. I dealt with Joann the owner of this family business. She was very helpful and honest with me. She made it clear as to what they expected of the young adults and said their would be supervision (ample) to make sure things did not get out of hand. My son spoke with her husband during his stay and said he was very nice too. It is a huge task taking on this age group and I commend them for not harassing them yet keeping things safe and in line. My son's group received their full security back so it isn't one of these places that takes advantage of these types of rentals. He came home safe and sound and had a great time. I would recommend this motel to other parents of young adults. read more

We decided last minute to take a trip to Seaside Heights and found this motel. We were warmly welcomed by the owners and their dog Skipper. The front desk service by the owners was so friendly and inviting we wouldn't think of going to any other motel, they even gave us a tour of the property. The room we stayed in was spotlessly clean and very well kept, I didn't even need my Clorox wipes I bring everywhere! I would highly recommend this motel to everyone and can't wait to go back next summer, especially to say hi to Skipper :) read more

We love this place! It's perfectly clean! The owner is super nice and helpful! The price is very reasonable! I can't say enough good things about this motel! It's about 3min of walking distance from the boardwalk. Very close to the waterpark, Casino Pier and other attractions. The room is very comfortable. But the main benefit for us is the cleanness! This motel is a nightmare. My group rented out practically the entire hotel, and they loved to lord their power over us. They made guests pay 80$ a day for guest passes, and mandated that hotel occupants wear wristbands on the right wrist with no exceptions. Especially horrible, on the last day we all had to take trash out of our rooms and wash the dishes, getting charged a surprise "light cleaning fee" if this was not done to their high standards. We are guests, not free cleaning personnel! Will not come back and give the owners another chance to try to power play us. read more

Worst experience of my life. Room smelt absolutely disgusting. The security guards were extremely rude, one in particular (Jessy) said a homophobic comment about me to the other security guard while I was walking by. The owner comes off as nice but while telling me about a school that was down for prom weekend (which was a mostly African American school) he talked about them very negatively even using the worst of racist slurs. I will never consider staying at this motel ever again not only because the beds that felt like rocks, the stench of the motel but the biggest thing is how inhumane and disgustingly rude and disrespectful the staff is, both homophobic and racist. If you plan on staying here please make sure you take pictures and videos of your room before you check in. As we were checking out they used the old "the couch frame is cracked" and stole the security deposit for a couch that has probably been broke years. Be cautious for these little scams that certain motels use. Staff was very rude and demeaning my entire stay. Overall, I would not recommend bringing friends or family to this facility. read more

I haven't stayed here but talked to the owner when trying to book a room. She was super helpful and honest with me. We were trying to book a room in June in the middle of prom season. She told me right away that I would probably not be happy booking a room on that night and recommend places to stay in towns along the shore. I have to start off by saying this is the best motel in Seaside Heights! This is the 2nd year in a row we've stayed here. We stayed for a full week. The rooms are very clean, and they come in daily to clean them during your stay. There's a mini refrigerator and microwave in the rooms, which are also clean and work well. The beds are comfortable and the A/C works great. They offer free wi-fi, which works well, and each room has a wall safe. This is a family-oriented motel. It's at the quiet end of the boardwalk away from all the clubs and obnoxious behavior that goes on at the Jersey Shore. They have a small, clean swimming pool, and they offer free bagels and coffee each morning starting at 9:00 a.m. The owner and his son are very nice and will go out of their way to assist with whatever you may need. This motel is an easy block and a half walk from the boardwalk and beach, and offers free parking. This is an older motel, as are all the motels in Seaside Heights, so it's not fancy or upscale, but it's definitely clean and safe. We couldn't have been happier with our stay here! read more
