As soon as we walked in the room, my son noticed the dirty pillowcase on one of the beds. The toilet gave a lengthy high pitched whistle with every flush. The shower was dirty with hair everywhere. The shower head leaked and the tub was so clogged it filled with water the minute it was turned on. The towels all had strange hair clumps weaved in them. I'm wondering if it was actually cleaned before we got there! The kicker, there was a seagull swimming in the pool...it climbed out, crawled to a corner and died. Completely rundown, continuous cigarette, and marijuana smells, unhelpful people at the front desk and even though it was free parking, we were not able to park in the parking lot due to other people parking there without motel verification and no one reinforces it. As soon as we opened the door, my daughter screamed in excitement. She ran to the bathroom and flipped on the light switch - "There's no "weeee errr eeee" sound!!!!" You know how garbage from the ocean washes up along the shore? After spending one night at the Aztec Motel, we rented a room at the Days Inn in Tom's River. I cut my losses and used the Aztec, more appropriately, as a rest stop, changing station, personal restroom, with the added benefit of free beach access (only offered to those who rent for 2 nights) and free parking for the day. They refused to offer a refund when I asked if I could cancel my 2nd night at the Aztec. She didn't ask why- I assumed it because she already knew why we wanted our money back. The walk to our room was an experience in itself. Not all the lights worked. My youngest begged us to use the stairs instead of using the elevator - she was convinced that we would get stuck. The room was mostly clean when we walked in for the first time. There was an opened bag of chips on the floor and it wasn't clean under the bed. My wife was denied extra towels when she asked for towels for the beach. No hair dryer either (that's odd for a beachside motel with a pool and showers and access to a beach, IMO). I had to convince the family that we didn't come here on vacay to spend time in the room. I tried to convince myself the same. We should be ok... The Aztec was set on convincing me otherwise... If you're a stomach sleeper, the beds are not made for you. The indentation in the mattress will destroy your back. Not much benefit as a back sleeper either - I never snore at home. I thought it was a huge benefit to have a patio room facing the pool, Ferris wheel and the beach!!! I was so excited!!! We all were. Then the sun went down and the spot lights shown... and they shown all night long. Early in the am, thanks to the lights and the discomfort, my whole family was easily awake at 5am... me, my 7 year old, 11 year old and my wife. Good thing too. Because the toilet wouldn't flush. I lifted the lid and reconnected the chain to the lever. Vawooo$$h... (see what I did there?) All in all, this place is one of the many pieces of garbage that has washed up along the shore with a good deal of other motels, vendors and restaurants. The beach and boardwalk are the only reasons these places are making money. The Aztec took to gifting those who give good reviews. Finally being able to get away with the family after the all of the financial hardships we experienced for the past few years was what we needed. It hurt losing that money. I hate having to convince my girls that there are good people in the world and not everyone is out to rip you off. This trip to Seaside was a compromise to avoid spending too much money to fly somewhere. We have some beautiful beaches in Jersey. Seaside heights is definitely one of them. It's just sucks that the beach is associated with overpriced motels, expensive carnival rides and games with crappy prizes and okay-ish food (my wife struggled finding places to eat that had a decent Yelp rating). If it wasn't want for Tom's River, the whole experience would've been horrible. The Seaside Heights boardwalk is a huge ripoff. At least, if you do stay at the Aztec, make sure you get up really early, go to the beach and watch the sunrise. That experience was breathtaking and very refreshing. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!! I made a reservation for 3 nights- August 13-16 2023, PAID online and received a confirmation email. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told that my reservation had been cancelled and that there were no rooms available. The hotel staff refused to refund my money and instead recommended that I stay at another hotel up the road. I was very disappointed with the Aztec Ocean Resort's customer service. I felt like I was being treated like a liar and that my business was not valued. I would not recommend this "hotel" to anyone. I arrived at the hotel at 4:00 PM on August 13, 2023. The hotel staff told me that my reservation had been cancelled because they had overbooked their rooms. They refused to refund my money, which totaled more than $700. They recommended that I stay at another motel, which was located up the road. So THEN, not only was I out of money from this scam of a "resort"- I had to pay for ANOTHER hotel room. To say that I was very upset and disappointed with the way I was treated is a gross understatement. I'm furious - this is outright FRAUD!!! I WILL be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well as the CFPB. read more

The on site manager is a miserable person who should put more effort into caring for the dilapidated property than she does getting involved in guests comings and goings. I Checked in to my room with my son (18) and two Nephews (17 & 18) and was threatened my kids would be thrown in the "seaside slammer" if I left them alone at the property. She then ordered me to check in at the front desk every morning by 9am or she would call the cops, which I agreed to because after making a 3 hour ride what are you going to do let's get comfortable and enjoy our vacation time right? wrong. We then took our scolded behinds up to our Deluxe poolside room with balcony that only cost $237 a night (right around the cost of a two bedroom air b&b by the way). This dump of a room (now my jail cell) was disgusting it smells like a wet basement, the floor is some how sticky and slippery at the same time, the walls have peeling paint, holes and scratches. The furniture is old, scratched and moisture damaged. The balcony has a water puddle from the ac dripping on it, peeling and chipped paint on the railing, and cheap lawn furniture that could barely support a full grown teenager. The bathroom some how was damper than the rest of the room even with the exhaust fan on that sounds like a diesel truck running. Again this section of the room features peeling paint, even on the bathtub?! to go along with the holes in the walls, and did I mention the sink is in not in the bathroom but in the foyer talk about deluxe accommodations!!!! Save your money!! After looking forward to a weekend away... you'd rather stay in your car! Came for a quick weekend getaway. We are older gals visiting. Not college teens goofing off. Upon arrival we had to park a block & half away & take a cart to bring up our stuff. Had a heck of a time bringing stuff in the elevator; too narrow. The front desk staff were not personable; appeared to be just working for a paycheck. We get in & it appears we got the "last resort room" right by the front desk, 118. The walls have stains & chipped paint. The furniture old & ratty. The corner chair stained from god knows what. The bottom sheets on the box spring, black. When we asked if there were any other rooms available, they said no, after the money we spent. No phones in the room if you needed one. Drawers on furniture don't open or are lopsided & move. This place was horrifying. We reserved three rooms. All has gritty floors. One had a broken lock. Our room next door had to be wiggled to close it. Another had no hot water. NONE had WIFI but we were told if we log on near the office and just stay on it might keep working by the time we get to the room. Yeah nope. There were holes in the wall, a broken headboard, possibly blood on one wall, something white and dried up on one of the bead spreads, some sort of bodily fluids on the walls, and a dirty bottom sheet. Aztec Hotel I waited until after my stay to start my review hoping for a redeeming quality.* I will split this list by Pros and Cons. Pros will be first as there are not a lot. Pro's- A nice three way shower. Con's- Way too expensive for an out of date, unkempt and dirty, hotel room, with two full-sized beds. I was sure I had reserved a king-sized, ocean-view room asking for a handicapped parking spot. There isn't any longer any true ocean-views from any room. If you look past the newest part of the boardwalk, past the extremely tall lighted Ferris Wheel, you can see the water on the horizon, on a nice sunny day. The front door was dirty, (pic to follow), looked like chocolate or stool. No hairdryer in a beachside hotel. Sink was outside of the bathroom. Walking from the front door to the first bed made the feet black with dirt. No spare blankets. Rusty rails on the deck. The pool-side was a mess (pic to follow) and did not look like any of the web-site photos, as well as it was not cleaned, with the same items on the ground day-to-day. Dirt behind the beds and junk under the tables. (Foil tabs, etc.) The microwave smelled like toxic plastic when used and was dirty and/or stained. We had one pack of coffee (Never enough!) with two sad packets with the stirrers, etc., and no cups. The lamps were from your great-grannies house and only one worked. The TV had two remotes and the sound did not work on either, and it I wasn't until the end of our stay that we found a note on an envelope by the TV shelf that told us to turn the tv off at the box. I am not getting out of bed to do this, I am on vacation! The TV was on when we got to the room and stayed on all night. Be careful by the never ending-always running antique motel AC unit as there is a box sticking out on the floor that catches your toes. The AC was set at 61 degrees on entry, and we never touched it-sometimes warm sometimes ok...but we were afraid to touch it and maybe it would stop working. Since this AC unit was vented outside, one was unable to sit on that side of the deck in the cheap plastic chairs which maybe considered as dangerously hot while in the sun. The large room darkening "drapes" did their job but make you feel like you were at a funeral. They were shabby, dirty and (gross). They were also draped over the antique motel AC unit. The hotel did not provide handicapped parking. (Seaside Heights allows handicappers free parking with a placard.) Oh, maybe my favorite item, the dingy plastic ice-container (pics to follow) which said "Holiday Inn." The hallways need paint and repair desperately. The stairwells were also with rusty rails. The check-in area was chaos. Not enough parking spots, period. The corner of the parking area was disgusting. The kicker? When we checked out we were not asked how our stay was.* I see some pictures on the site here and I don't know what rooms those were because we were in the piss poor room. I'm so disappointed I feel like it ruined my three day vacation, Especially at nearly $200 a night. FYI Of all the places, I forgot to check in here. This is a classic seaside hotel, that I have stayed at three different times. They have done some painting and renovations to tidy the facility up, that do look nice. The rates are reasonable for the location, and I think some of the other reviewers maybe didn't take all that into consideration. It's safe, the staff are friendly, the beds are comfortable, and the water is hot. You spend maybe 8 hours in the room and you are right on the boardwalk which is a great feature! This is a rough stay but the people were really nice when I went there in the offseason. It's right on the boardwalk which is great and probably is great for partying in the summer. Had to run the hot water for 15 minutes to get it hot. The price is very season dependent. I paid $66 in October, but it's probably over $200 in the summer. read more

The location is great! You walk out to the boardwalk and rides. The rooms were recently renovated and they're semi nice, maybe the nicest you'll get in the area. I did a lot of searching and researching options before coming. Our room smelled like smoke and was right get outside of the smoking area so that was a little annoying. I don't understand all the negative reviews. We visited here during the off-season in September 2017. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very clean and have recently been updated since our visit here last year. While we were here it appears more upgrades were being done. Yes the motel is overall "dated" because it was probably built in the 60s or 70s, but I'm not some prude when it comes to that, I care more about cleanliness, service and value and this place gets five stars. The three stars is for your wonderful front desk woman very very thin woman with tattoos super sweet very accommodating and she makes your place ...everything else is kind of down the drain from there. Now this is Sleezeside. so we are not expecting anything close to good when it comes to motels, but we were desperate and needed a one night stay and as long as you don't catch anything like bed bugs you can suck up one night, which we did. We "upgraded" to an oceanfront king. The prices are absurd it was 179 for a Thursday night which goes up to 279 on a Friday or Saturday. So the "oceanfront" room has been updated for sure at least the bathroom was new and clean, same old bed though, hard as a rock with springs popping out. The best was how on display we were, there is NO privacy in this "VIP room" the blinds don't cover the windows fully so on the Oceanside everybody that is on the beach or on the gondola can see directly into your room, OK so you close the blinds which are broken and don't close properly and you shut off the light and no one can see in, right? Wrong, because on your door side the windows that overlook the deck (where everyone hangs out and smokes their cigarettes and drinks right outside your room) can see completely in and out on the sides of the blinds so you get no privacy whatsoever why not have blackout shades? BTW there is a bar/restaurant outside your door and gross dirty pool area so there is constant stream of people hanging outside your door because it's the only place for the other rooms to view the boardwalk. Maybe I'm getting old, this might have been fun in your 20s. Aside from that, the room was DIRTY you can see all of the dirt on top of the refrigerator and coffee maker that is the layers of dust that you could see fingerprints in, it hasn't been cleaned in months as is the floor we had to wear flip-flops at all times especially getting in and out of the shower because your feet were just covered in dirt and sand on the floor. If you're in your 20s you might love it for the location other that that I say PASS. read more

There are very limited spaces and if you take a bigger vehicle, like a truck, your space to park are even more limited. We were required to pay to park 2 of the 3 nights we were there and that wasn't cheap especially on the weekend. I went to complain at the front desk. Bottle cap on the floor my sliding door, was there when we checked in and still there when we checked out. Ask the housekeeper if she was going to clean room and that we needed towels. She said "later" but never did either. Went to the lobby to ask for towels. Girl told us she didn't have any and that the linen cabinet was locked and she had no key. Got woken up to a loud banging, and someone claiming to be "front desk" trying to get into our room at 12:30 am while we were all asleep. Shouting let me in or I'll break the door in. Saying we aren't in the system. We had to call the police to make sure because who knows who's outside nowadays, and when they arrived we showed we had proof that we had the room reserved. the situation died down, but we left right away, and the overnight guy promised a refund for the night for what had happened and the next day when we called they changed their story saying none of that happened and aren't refunding the night. This motel is right on the boardwalk with parking underneath and a block away. The rooms were decently cleaned, it looks like the rooms were recently remodeled. However the actual motel does not, the elevators didn't work 1 day out of the 3 and it seems like their AC wasn't working throughout the motel, (they worked perfectly in the rooms). The wifi was also not working. The beds were clean and comfortable, the shower was beautiful with a shower rain head, hand held, and body nozzle sprayers. They do not come in and clean your room everyday and no gym, nor no breakfast. The motel offers you a beach pass as well! This motel was close to all the restaurants and bars, along with all the boardwalk rides. It's in the center of everything! The motel has a pool and a bar attached to it too! I loved this location. It is definitely not a luxuries motel, but it was a good pick considering all the searching I did for a decent motel in this area. read more

Unfortunately I did not check Yelp reviews prior to booking this hotel. We got to seaside early and went straight to the boardwalk and beach. I received a call that we could check in so I went to the motel checked in then went right back to my family to continue our fun. It started raining around 7 or 8 pm so we headed back. The room was NOTHING like the website pictures. Honestly, it wasn't even worth the one star I gave. 2 TV's I am guessing one broke so they just placed another in front. Curtains that were stained and didn't close. A hole in bathroom wall. A chair that I'm disgusted to think what kind of stains are on it. I could go on and on!! I checked out and drove 1 hr and 45 mins home in the rain with my family as it was too late to find another room elsewhere. I called several times spoke to 2 different people one was ok the other quite nasty, both said I needed to speak to a person named Das. It has been 4 days and Das has yet to reach out to me. We stayed here back in 2009, and it was absolutely horrible. Juliana N. summed it up in a nutshell: an overpriced DUMP. Negative #1: Both when we came for check-in and when we went to check out no one was behind the counter and we had to perform a search. Irritating. Negative #2: They had advertised on the website that they had a pool and made no mention of the fact that the pool was under construction. That would have been useful information when we were deciding on a place to stay. They had no deals with anywhere nearby allowing guests to use their pool while Aztec's was down. Negative #3: The room itself was a dump - crappy TV, tiny cot bed, one tiny lamp in the corner and the bathroom light were the only lighting we got. It was really dark in there. Negative #4: Thin, THIN walls=freezing. The cold night ocean breeze got under the door and we were freezing, but the blanket provided was too thin and too small to protect. First time I have worn my jacket to bed. Negative #5: Thin, THIN walls=LOUD. Crowds of drunk people, a couple arguing in the middle of the night, some women laughing and having a loud conversation - this went on ALL NIGHT LONG and it sounded like it was coming from within the hotel room itself it was so loud. Maybe we should have expected it to be loud as Aztec is right on the main section of the boardwalk, but still, most places in busy locations are at least capable of blocking out some of the noise. The racket lasted all night long, and truly pushed the experience into the one-star, absolutely miserable territory. Negative #6: For all this misery and suffering we had to pay over $100! Absolutely outrageous. I would never stay here again, and recommend you don't either. The condition of the rooms is horrible and we got no sleep. Asked for extra towels to use at their pool and was told 'NO". Only get towels for your showers. Left the room to go to the beach. Came back to only one bed made after housekeeping came. And then they have the nerve to ask for a tip. Mattresses are horrible and one of the beds was broken. I tried to cancel my reservation FOUR MONTHS before my anticipated stay and they refuse to refund my money. They have charged me over $450 on a stay that is months away and WILL NOT give me my money back. We had to change our reservations because my elderly mother is moving in with us that week and every person I spoke to at Aztec screamed, ranted and would not listen to a word I said. The accomodations are exactly what you would expect from a hotel (motel?) on the boardwalk at Seaside, clean enough for a weekend stay but a bit skeezy. However, the extreme rudeness and incompetence of the staff is inexcusable. My friends and I stayed here last year and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Apparently they are under new management now, and the entire staff from the owners down are possibly the rudest bunch I've ever dealt with in a hospitality business and setting. The blonde woman at the front desk, who I believe is one of the owners was snippy and downright nasty to us. When we asked for an ice scoop she said she didn't have one because we had just checked out. She spent 10 minutes yelling at my friend because the safety pin on the beach pass had come loose. IT'S A SAFETY PIN. When we requested a hair dryer, the younger man at the desk said they were all checked out and probably would never be back. Not one of these people smiled at us, and honestly looked like they hated all the customers the entire time. I get that Seaside Heights during the summer season must be difficult but they're in the business of HOSPITALITY. This is a direct message to them and especially the blonde woman - please spare us all and get into a new line of business. My room was nice enough....except for the goo caked on to my blanket and human hair in the bed. When I asked for new bedding late last night, I was given a flimsy wool cloth that barely covered half the king size bed, and a single pillow cover. Today I tracked down a cleaning lady who provided me with new sheets..for me to make the bed myself! The only reason this gets two stars is for the location (right on the boardwalk) and the price. I stayed at the Aztec in July. Reasonable price for the summer time and cannot complain since it is on the boardwalk. Yes, it is not the Hyatt but you have to keep an open mind, it's like a summer bungalow. The ladies at the front desk were very sweet and helpful with everything. Since my room didn't have a microwave I was able to go to them at night to warm up my son's milk. The view from the balcony is what won the 4 stars for me. It was nice to wake up and see the ocean in the morning. The pool is also very clean. Another reason this place is awesome is because when I left my phone charger, I called the next day to see if housekeeping had seen it. They called me back two days later and had my phone charger. I sent a self stamp envelope to them and it was mailed back to me. Any other hotel would not have looked or called me back. This will definitely be my place to come back to next summer. read more

So i was a little unsure about booking this hotel due to the reviews but i think everyone reviewing forgot the important parts of a hotel, your room and where its located! The exterior of the hotel is a bit beaten up but its a hotel on the water, what do you expect? Our room was AMAZING! we had the VIP room, totally worth the money. Clean, nice big bed, amazing shower, jacuzzi for 2. My boyfriend and i loved it! Then right down the stairs was the center of the boardwalk, couldn't have been a better location! Parking was fine, they have an extra parking lot about one block away if the other lot is full so that was cool. I didn't communicate too much with staff but when i did they were nice. Not overly nice but laid back people who got the job done. I had a great time and will definitely return. Also they have a little patio right on the second floor with a couple of tables and chairs. Good for smokers. And a fun little bar/restaurant downstairs! read more
