Used them thru Home Warranty Company when the AC started blowing hot air. I got a call from Dorena in their office to set up a time to come analyze the problem. Turned out to be evaporator coil had sprung a leak. She took care of dealing with the Home Warranty company and communicating to me what the process would be. The technician came out and replaced the part, recharged the system and was gone in less than 2 hours and I didn't even need to be there. Will use them in the future. FANTASTIC! These guys are great and they are honest! We were experiencing major issues with our A/C unit and they were able to come right away to inspect the unit. Sun State Refrigeration is excellent. I had a different A/C company come out and do a tune up on my system, as it wasn't running very well. After the tune up they had a list of repairs that they recommended. The prices seemed high. I did some research and after reading the great Yelp reviews, I called Sun State. I asked them if they could quote me prices for the repairs the other company recommended. It wasn't even close! Sun State's prices were a third of the other company. Sun State came out the next day and did the repairs. They even recommended an additional repair and it was still way less than the other company. Sun State came out to fix my 2 AC units under my home warranty. They called within 2 hours of me submitting the claim and set up the appointment quickly and showed up on time. Beware of this company! My AC went down two days ago and they were just now able to come out. They were told on two separate occasions that the house was two stories. They finally came out, went on the roof and diagnosed the problem. Then they said they could not repair because it was on a two story house and their worker's comp did not cover repairs on a two story house! So now on Friday afternoon with temps at 105 degrees, I now have to find another repair company. I tried calling their office and received only voicemail. Not good. read more

I called based on reviews on Yelp. I talked to Doreen about my a/c not draining properly. She said it would be the following Monday before a tech could get to it. She was insightful about different Home Warranty companies as well. My service call was Not Through a Home Warranty Company. I was given Instruction That I would be contacted Monday Morning for a 3 hour window of when tech would be coming. I was advised tech would call before coming to house before appointment. I accepted these terms. However helpful Doreen was, she failed to properly discuss charges with me in advance of the call, or advise of payment options at time of service. I failed to question charges also, to be fair. Monday Morning I was called by Doreen and given my 3 hour window, 1-4 p.m. At 4:30 , needing too take care of other business I left another Adult in charge, in case a/c tech came while I was gone. I called Doreen to let her know the 3 hour window had passed, and no one had called. She replied they were busy and running behind. The tech's next stop was my call. I never received a call from tech, or Doreen. Tech showed up, blew compressed air through the system to get it draining. I was charged an additional $15.00 materials on top of their websites, $75.00 advertised service call. Tech told attending adult, the payment had been settled by phone. I did receive a follow up message in my voicemail from Doreen, stating the tech had left an invoice at my home at time of service and she needed me to call in with a credit card by phone to pay the invoice. I retrieved the message a week later. I had to call Doreen because there is No zip code on invoice. I did not want to pay by card over the phone. The tech was offered payment in the form of cash at time of services. Taking up more of my time, Payment was sent by us mail. This business and invoice address comes back to a residential address. Upon a drive by, this company is truly "Family Owned & Operated", Right out of their Garage. I'm sure their neighbors don't like it. I would Not Recommend this company, and was not impressed by their lack of customer service skills. Much more effort than I would have thought for such a simple job, by appointment. read more

Worst ever! Great first visits but when need to use warranty they blame you for not filling out paperwork. This was 5 years ago when we called regarding warranty on coils. We were told it was our fault because we did not fill out the paperwork for warranty on our new unit. We told them they were correct we did not fill out the paperwork because they had left a handwritten note on receipt stating that they completed it for us. We then had to supply a copy of our paperwork to them with their notes stating that they indeed did complete the warranty paperwork, before they would accept responsibility. In the end it was a battle and ultimately refused to honor the warranty (due to error in filling out paperwork). Gratefully, we were able to find a reputable company that was able to scrounge to find the warranty paperwork and they made it work for us at the extremely fair rate of FREE! Yes, this was a long time ago but somethings you never forget. read more

Both times they did not complete the repair correctly and a second company had to be called out to fix their work. I would not recommend this company to anyone. No Show In the middle of July, 110 degree weather, this company left us high and dry (and hot). Called them on Thursday morning, couldn't come out until Friday. Called us and gave us a 4 hour window (11-3). They called around noon, saying "We can't find your house." They were on eastside, we're on west. Said they'd be right here (10-15 minute drive). Long story short, they went somewhere else and didn't bother to call us. My wife talked to them several times and they were always 'on their way.' At 4:00 pm, still hadn't shown up. I called Just Air and scheduled for 9-11 next day (Sat) with request that if they can come sooner, please do. Called Sun State to cancel and they knew who we were without even saying it (and I'd never spoken to them, just my wife). Just Air called at 7:15 Sat morning and said they'd be here in 20 minutes and they were right on the dot. In and out within and hour. Use them if you don't mind being miserably hot for an indefinite period of time. My poor 10 year old thought he would 'die' and I was really concerned about our dog. Too many companies out there eager for your business to waste time with this one. read more

the problem was fixed but i was less than impressed with the attention provided. the warranty company contacted your company at 7;40 sunday morning. i left a msg on monday afternoon and 2 more on tuesday asking to schedule a time for our rental in surprise . the lady who answers your phones said they'd be out sometime on wednesday but couldn't give me a time much less a window. i called on wednesday night to ask my tenant how things went and was told the appt was rescheduled for thursday. i called and left a msg asking someone to get in touch with me and i have yet to hear from anyone. considering i am the customer i was quite surprised. so, the problem was fixed but the lack of professionalism was dissappointing. read more

My Home Warranty company had this company come out to fix my AC unit that was broken. They said that a diagnosis couldn't be made until I paid a cleaning fee that wasn't covered. Paid that and they got the AC unit working again. After two weeks they were back out as I had said it wasn't cooling like it should -6 hours to go down 2 degrees in the evening. When they came out they said everything was fine and that it was taking time to cool because it was so hot out. This was the Thursday. On the Sunday morning I woke up early to a hot house. The unit had completely stopped overnight again and this time there was a burning smell. When I called for an appointment I was told it would be Tuesday at the earliest but they couldn't give me a time or a confirmation. By Monday morning I couldn't take it anymore: the house was hot and I have an infant at home. I called the warranty company and they agreed to give me a credit to get a company of my choice out. Paid a company that could come out that day and when I explained what had been happening he went straight into the attic. No need to check the outside unit. On inspection I was informed that had Sun State gone into the attic on Thursday the problem would have been seen and corrected before it went out totally again. The motor and capacitor was gone and giving the smoke smell. Within 2 hours of it being fixed the unit had cooled the house by 11 degrees in the middle of the afternoon (big difference from the 2 degrees in 6 hours that I was told was due to the heat outside.) Although they were all very polite and quick to call me back, I had no AC for 36 hours due to the technicians not checking what they should. I was now out $150 for a cleaning that didn't need to be done, and $840 bill from the company that did fix the issue, only a portion of which was covered by my warranty. Had Sun State gone into the attic instead of just checking levels I'd still have all that money in my pocket! read more

I normally would not write a review, but the service was so horrible I felt it was needed. Our AC wasn't working properly and the home warranty sent out Sun State Refrigeration. I had already paid the service fee online but when they showed up only my wife was home and they charged her the fee again. After that they said the only thing wrong was the thermostat wasn't working and they replaced a smart thermostat with a bare-bones bottom of the line basic unit. They then told her that we would have to wait 24 hours to see if the system was truly working. After 24 hours the AC unit still wasn't working. I tried calling Sun State Refrigeration multiple times with no answer, even left voice mails for Dorena and never got any call backs. After several days of trying I called the home warranty and for one confirmed they should have replaced the thermostat with a similar quality unit, meaning it should have been another smart thermostat even if a different brand. However after explaining I had tried to call them for days and begged them to send another company out to fix it they said they had not received any paper work from the company to see what they even did so could not send a 2nd company until they received that information. Also I told them they charged us a 2nd service fee so home warranty credited my account. However after waiting several days Sun State did not get back to the Home Warranty company as to confirm what work was performed but luckily the home warranty finally sent out another AC repair guy since it was Summer and had taken so long. When he got there he looked at one thing and instantly identified a bad part of the AC unit. My wife later said that the Sun State Guys never even went out side and checked anything on the unit itself. And finally when I thought this was all over, the home warranty company contacts me weeks later saying Sun State claimed to have never got the service fee, luckily I had the invoice to prove my wife paid! I honestly can't believe this company is even in business operating this way. Then they had the audacity to send an email burst advertising for yearly AC maintenance checks. As far as their website claims: Honest - Nope, Reliable - Nope, Trustworthy - Nope and Fewest complaints - I doubt it. Do not use this company. read more
