The mist/spray tan has three cartridge dyes that to make the tan darker. Light, Medium, and Dark. Light is the default catridge that comes with the spray tan. Depending on the shade you want, you will have to pay extra ($4 to 6$ extra for Medium and Dark). On my initial visit, the associate explained the spray tan booth to me - apply the salon provided lotion to my hands, feet, knees, and elbows. Once inside the booth, close the door, and an automated message will tell you when to pose. These poses are similar to the standing warrior variation poses in yoga. You will complete 2 poses while facing the mister and 2 poses with your back towards the mister. That's it! It literally takes more time getting undressed and adequately applying lotion to the dry parts of your body than the actual mist/spray time. I didn't have a horror story of turning orange or any of that nonsense. I think in 2016, that type of situation is only in the comedy movies. The facility is in an immaculate, relaxing state with music playing gently throughout. It's very clean and well kept. I would come here again!

No matter how you dress it up it has one function-- making pale bodies less pale. I went in here determined to beat the Seasonal Affective Disorder blues and the sales girls got me to buy far more than I'd intended. Be careful with them! They are all very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and it makes you want to buy things... their lotion is DEFINITELY over priced but the actual tans are cheap, especially with their promotions that they switch up practically daily. The grass is always greener and the promotion they offered a week after my fate was sealed gave me a bit of buyer's remorse haha They have three tanning tracks or bed styles-- Fast, Faster and Fastest. Fast is good enough for us regular folk but occasionally you'll have to upgrade to faster to make sure you don't look like a zebra when you lift your arms-- the stand up is 'Faster'. I was feeling a little saucy one day and decided to try the Fastest bed... omg it's like Star Trek in there. The bed itself is beautiful (yes, I just said a tanning bed was beautiful. Who doesn't like shiny well-lit things?) and it is sooo comfortable. I'd make a terrible soldier because I can't sleep in strange places and it takes me forever to conk out... I was out within five minutes in this baby. The lights keep you so cozy and warm and the air conditioning feature on the bed (yes, it is AIR CONDITIONED) makes you feel just as comfy as you do when you flip your pillow over at night so you can nuzzle into the cold side or pop a foot out of your blanky to hit the cold-warm sweet spot. I now use my upgrade points to get into the Fastest bed far more often than a person educated enough to have heard the words "skin cancer" before should. The Fastest is totally customizable and wonderful but I still love me some good, old-fashioned Fast bed (in the early morning before a thousand previously-pale people have overheated it). It's like a personal sauna without the humidity. I'm not loyal to this location since I work all over Des Moines and never know which one I'll be next to. I do love the staff at this spot, but duty calls. That was what made me choose Sun Tan City-- there are a bajillion locations and you can go to any you like with your membership. Each location has the same beds (I think, don't quote me) and the same tracks. Just heed the warning and go in there with a budget in mind or you'll end up spending farrrr too much money! Thanks to this place I have a pretty little heart on my body that is much paler than the rest of me and the winter blues haven't kicked in yet! I shall return.

They both got new packages and were all ready to tan. I showed my mother how to use the bed, because she has never tanned before. After her tan she went into the spray tan. She had taken awhile getting dressed and it was about 7:50 P.M. Instantly the girl at the front desk, Brianna, became hostile. When I came out of my tanning bed she said my mom wanted me to show her the spray tan. My mom explained the girl was very rude and impatient with her. When my mom was done, I walked to the back to rush her along because it was 7:59 P.M. When I started walking to the back Brianna and the other girl with the pony tail and glasses decided to start mopping right by the door my mom was about to come out of. They had not mopped anywhere else and that room is near the center of the store.. They slopped a huge puddle right by her door, I am assuming to let us know they closed one miniature before and we had over stepped out welcome. By the time we got to the car it was 8:03 P.M. which means we inconvenienced them for 3 extra minutes and we were treated very poorly. The next time we all came in, we came earlier this time and with less to do. Brianna rolled her eyes at us, glared and said in a very hostile and passive tone, "How can I help you". Sorry, Sun Tan City, I believe you are a great location with a bad employee. If you plan on closing earlier than 8, please let us know not to come past seven and please change your hours on the door so costumers are not mislead when searching for tanning salons that are open after work hours.

She took us (my roommate & I) on a tour of the salon, explaining each bed, and helped us to find a short-term package that worked best for us. Each visit has been pretty quick. They don't seem to have long wait times, and, as promised, the bed is super fast and effective. The desk girls are always friendly and efficient. I even visited once when the computer system was down; they handled the situation quickly and got everyone into their beds. All in all, I've had a great experience here! I won't turn into a full time tanner, but this will definitely be my spot to tan when needed. Highly recommended!

I got one on Amazon from the actual lotion manufacturer at 30$ and they STILL tried to get me to trade it in for one of theirs. Not an even trade mind you. They'd take my 30$ lotion then sell me one of theirs at 30$ uh no thanks mine is new. She assured me I could, no strings attached. I later learned that's wrong. You have to wait until the first AUTOMATIC billing cycle (aka you must pay for 2 months before being able to cancel). I asked the right questions when joining, the employee steered me wrong, as a customer I did my diligence. So when I came in at the end of April to cancel, the employees told me I was wrong and there was nothing they could do. They didn't offer the customer service number, they gave no solution except suck it up and pay. They just sat there acting like I was a fool infront of multiple other customers, speaking to me like I was below them, and just giving off the worst attitude. It's so frustrating to walk in with respect and understanding just to be treated so poorly by employees like that! Beware when purchasing a membership- there is a condition before you're able to cancel, that I wish was properly explained to me when I asked.
