First time here but we were at the hospital so we stopped in for lunch. I ordered a BLT; simple and comforting. I had a choice of soup or fries for the side. There were four soups today and I chose the chicken noodle. Never have I experienced such delicious soup at a restaurant. Thick noodles, thick broth, plenty of chicken. Did not expect to enjoy it but I could not stop eating it once I started. It truly did taste like homemade soup and I suspect it was made right here. The BLT could've been made in my own kitchen at home. It was delicious. DH chose a charred chicken salad which had plenty of chicken on it. It, too, looks like it could have been made in my kitchen. He said it was very satisfactory. We will definitely come here again when we get the opportunity. There were many omelette options and other breakfast options. We southsiders were in the neighborhood so tried this on a holiday weekend Friday. My "Hawaii 5-0" omelette was great.. lots of small-chopped ham and bacon with pineapple. The surprise treat was that the pineapple was grilled which added a nice flavor. My husband's dish, however, included undercooked bacon and hash browns, making his experience less than ideal. The place was packed by the time we left, so I am guessing that overall, people love the quality and mostly reasonable prices. Our server was also quite friendly and attentive. read more

Sun Rise Cafe is one of my favorite breakfast spots. Great food, portions just right and great staff!

I used to come here weekly with my grandpa and former husband. The place has a "Cheers"-like atmosphere which rocks. My grandpa was such a regular he was able to get the owner to add beef & noodles over mashed potatoes to the menu (one of Grandpa's favorites). The past 5 years I've been moving around the country and now that I'm back I'm grateful to still have this restaurant around (especially now that it's not such a pain to hang a left when leaving the lot). My favorite waitresses are still there (and they actually recognized me despite my hair going from pink back to brunette) and the restaurant's still under the same awesome management. My aunt gave me a $25 gift certificate here and I've been able to purchase 4 meals with the card and there's still money left. True story, folks. I took my boyfriend to Sun Rise for the first time today and he slammed on the Hawaii Five-O omelet. I have made a convert out of him and am grateful I don't have to worry about him dragging me off to Hall's ever again after we've had a night out with our posse. Everything I've ever had at Sun Rise as an ovo-lacto vegetarian has been great. I think the only way I could think to improve the place is if they'd add vegetarian meat options. read more

We put our name on the list and two separate couples walking after us, were seated before us, and our name was above them on the list( when we walked up to look at the list and talk to the hostess did not apologise, she said she assumed it was the right people... And then grabbed his by the arm to be seated. Never apologizing. Not recommended if you want polite, respectful service at all. read more

My first time visiting was very below average. My mom and I both got biscuits and gravy, and immediately after we first looked at the food, we knew exactly which wholesale food store the food came from. Nothing was fresh. I guess we came at a very bad time. I explained to the waitress I have a good allergy to onion. Specifically told them no onion. I got my omelette and the first thing I noticed was the aroma of onion. I carefully checked it upon not seeing any I tasted it. The peppers were overcooked though and black on one side, as though they were thrown on the grill and just left. By the second bite I tasted onion which prompted me to look even closer. I found a piece of onion. They claimed it was hash browns, which were not supposed to be in it either. They did offer to make a new one, but as it had taken an hour to seat and serve us we did not have time. They did not charge us for my meal. I seriously doubt I will go back. read more

A small town dinner feel, staff is kind,respectful and friendly. Not many vegan or vegetarian options but that's okay. The CAT (cheese, avocado and tomato) sandwich is absolutely lovely. The bread toasted well with melted cheese, and fresh avocado and tomato. The side of fruit was fresh cut and their ice tea was refreshing. Our food also came out in a reasonable time but a bit slow. The sandwich was a tad bit to greasy but was easily dabbed off. Lovely place. read more

Tonite we avoided standing room only at the Lunch Box Restaurant where we usually dine, and went to the Sunrise Cafe, a total disaster, barely anyone there compared to they Lunch Box and after eating it's pretty oblivious why based on quality of food for the price. This restaurant recently relocated to a larger space in the Pine Valley shopping center, so service was a little on the slow side, but give them a little time and it will pick up. The menu has expanded from just breakfast and lunch items since they are now open until 9:00 pm. Among other added menu items, they have shrimp, steak, roast beef and turkey manhattens, beef and noodles over mashed potatoes, pork chops, fried chicken and fish, and to my delight a great grilled tilapia. I love the comfort food that they are serving - but being able to order a healthy grilled tilapia dinner for only $9.99 is awesome. All of their prices are very reasonable. They usually have a nightly special that includes 2 side items. Sun Rise staff is soooo friendly. You really feel like family here. The owner is very attentive to the quality of food that is being served and has made good choices in the expansion of their menu. They are located in the midst of a pizza place and Chinse, Mexican and Italian restaurants . They are not trying to be any of these other places, but are trying to be just themselves. I can't get this good all american comfort food at any of these other places, and they are not trying copy the other local establishments -if I want Chinese, I will go to the Chinese place and so on. They have hired extra staff, which is much needed due to the larger space and expanded hours. They have a room in the back that is opened on the weekend mornings, and that can seat larger partys, or perhaps even host a private event? They have their usual breakfasts that are served all day, and 2 soups on the menu that change daily. I am so glad this place expanded - I can come here after work and get a good meal for a very reasonable price and enjoy the companionship of my fellow diners and the staff. They really appreciate their customers and it shows. I like to support a locally owned restaurant that appreciates my business. read more

This is a typically local probably family owned restaurant. The interior was clean and well lit. Menu was extensive but not overwhelming It included some items you don't normally see at other family restaurants. All menu items are served all day with no time restrictions. This was my first visit here and I wasn't disappointed as I had heard positive comments about this place. I ordered breakfast and it was delicious. My fave on the plate was the hash towns with onions as an add on. They were crispy with just enough onion to add flavor but not take over the potatoes. I ordered my eggs medium but the whites were still a little soft. I hate runny whites. Balancing keeping the yolk runny and the white firm is difficult even for me at home. I'm not a culinary genius by any stretch. Since it was just borderline I didn't send them back. Overall the food was very good and the service exceptional. All the staff seemed to be enjoying their job. There were many small groups meeting for breakfast with a lot of smiles and happy chatter. Would I recommend and go back? Absolutely. read more
