I know for a fact that their salmon is high-quality and delicious. One of the things I keep coming back for are the crab cakes. They get them from a local small business on Long Island I believe. They come frozen and you just have to heat them up in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes or pan fry them for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Hard to find really good crabcakes and these are definitely worth it at $4.25 a piece.

I have been around seafood my entire life and as a food professional it is gratifying to find a family run shop that cares about freshness. Really fresh seafood should smell clean, mild, and reminiscent of the open ocean, completely lacking the pungent, heavy smell that people typically associate with "fishiness". Avenue U Fish Market is clean and creamy smelling, just like right out of the water fresh. I bought soft-shell crabs last weekend that were the best I have ever had in my 60 years. They were lively, plump and most importantly delicious. Angelo personally picked 4 of them for me and my wife. I wanted to let Brooklyn and Rockaway know that it is worth the trip to Avenue U Fish Market. Keep up the great work and shop local. Support a small family run business. Get the Soft Shells while they are available. Thank you Angelo, Adam Smith

Always check expiration dates, because there are often products past their date on the shelf. They do take returns if you realize that you bought something expired, just show them your receipt to prove it was already past the date when you purchased it. There's no scale to weigh produce, and you have to watch carefully at the register, because sometimes the scale might not be correctly calibrated, or there might be something leaning on it. I was once charged for four times the weight of produce I purchased, but luckily I noticed, went back, had a different register reweigh the items, and they processed the return minus the correct charge of the items. It's definitely inconvenient to have to be so vigilant when all I want to do is pay the listed price for groceries that aren't expired, but at least they correct their mistakes on a case by case basis. We had stir-fried snails, jellyfish, Dungeness crab, live steamed fish, braised eggplant with fish fillet, stir-fried cauliflower with preserved meats, coral shrimp, sliced conch with crispy tofu, beef with string beans, seasonal vegetables, and fish maw soup. Everything came out hot, delicious, and well seasoned. The Dungeness crab was a standout, and it was refreshing to enjoy such a wide variety of seafood and traditional dishes. My wife was pleasantly surprised by the entire meal. The interior was nicely done and felt different from many other Chinese restaurants in Brooklyn. Service was attentive, and they seated us in a corner where we could enjoy our family conversation without constant interruption. The food came out very quickly, maybe a little too quickly, but we were fine with it. They were unfortunately out of a few fish and clam options, as well as several wines, but it did not take away from a great dinner. Highly recommended for a family-style Chinese seafood meal in Bay Ridge.

After coming here to Royal Seafood, I can confirm that person was correct. Hidden in a little corner shop of Brooklyn, Royal seafood doesn't look like anything flashy.
