Came here first timefordinner rewithmy husband We werewerevery impressed with the food. The skewers tasted just like how it was prepared in Japan especially the Tsukune (minced chicken). It's hard to find Tsukune that is prepared just like Japan and Sumoki does it perfectly! You can get it without the raw egg to dip. I did trieddipping the meat into the egg yolkand it does add a nice sweetness to it but I think I'll skip it next time as idon't want to take the chance of getting sick from raw egg. The meat wasvery tasty so probably will taste good without the raw yolk . The staff were very helpful and friendly. We got the assorted skewers set(chef's choice)which had a good variety of beef and chickenand we also got the carbonara udon which was a nice nicecarb dish to have as your filler dish. I think next time I'll get a rice dish insteadasl realized thatI'm not a huge fan of carbonara sauce.I think there were 5skewers so enough for 2people if you pull outthe meat.We also got thethe grilledgrilled onigiri which was well prepared well but crispy rice is not really my cup of tea. We will definitely be back! There's still other items that I like to try like their pork belly rice bowl which I didn't notice on the menu. It's always good to study menu ahead of time which I didn't so madesome wrong choices.check out their menu on theirwebsite. I like tootodefinitely come back to try their desserts like grilled mochiballs(knownasDango) and matcha cheesecake.

Came here with my girlfriends and we were all super impressed. The service was fast and friendly, and although there's a 90-minute seating limit, it was more than enough time to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. We shared a bunch of dishes and loved them all! Highlights included the Wagyu Gyoza, Pork Belly Skewers, Beef Tenderloin (Chimichurri + Garlic), Shiso Momo, Soft Shell Crab Crispy Burger, and more. Every bite was flavourful, fresh, and grilled to perfection. We spent approximately $40/p before tips and had just enough room left for dessert elsewhere. The cozy atmosphere, quality ingredients, and quick service make SUMOKI YAKITORI a must-visit.

I really liked the skewers here, and ordering on the app was easy. We tried a variety of chicken, beef, pork and the mochi and onigiri. The drinks were also cute - we tried the matcha beer and grape green tea which were both decent but on the small side. The location is a bit out of the way as there isn't much around, but it's a good spot to chat over drinks and snacks.

A Japanese izakaya restaurant in the heart of Mainstreet, Unionville. Great vibes, good food and amazing drinks. Came for dinner with a bunch of girlfriends with a reservation. Was seated promptly, and noticed a line up by the time we were leaving. The interior is nice and vibey which I really enjoyed. Service here was amazing! Items were good, definitely a bit on the pricier side but they were tasty. Got a bunch of things to try and share: Matcha beer 5/5 - Loved the colour of the vibrant green. Made with premium matcha powder and the beer base is coors. It was a surprisingly refreshing drink and I don't even usually like beer! Yamayuzu matcha 5/5 - A refreshing matcha sake drink with strawberry syrup. Loved this as it had the right amount of sweetness but was still refreshing for the meal. Brussel sprouts 5/5 - Fried and topped with bacon, parm and balsamic honey. It's crispy with a hint of sweetness to balance out the brussel sprout. A great sharing vegetable dish. Sumoki wings 5/5 - Came perfectly fried and sauced with their original Sumoki butter kimchi sauce. Sticky, saucey and delicious. Yucca fries 4/5 - Always a fan of anything fried. Yucca fries were great and topped with parm served with an aioli. Sumoki set 5/5 - You get 5 Chef choice skewers. Thought this was a great set to get a variety of the meats to try. Skin - kawa 5/5 - Probably one of my favourites. It's grilled chicken skin which was chewy and crunchy. Cooked perfectly and had the perfect oil/ fattiness to it. Tsukune + egg yolk dip 3/5 - This was recommended by the staff here as one of their best sellers. It's a chicken meatball with house special egg yolk sauce. It's was not one of my favourites, and would probably skip on this. The meatball was soft and tender but I like a bit more of a bite to my meat. Giant scallop 5/5 - A pricier item on their menu, sitting at around $13.50 for 2 pieces of scallops. It was Hokkaido scallop, large in size and seasoned well. But definitely comes at a high price point. Zucchini with torched mentaiko 3/5 - Think this sounded better than it tastes. Could perhaps skip on this skewer as well. Mentaiko carbonara udon 5/5 - A great carby option to share with the table. Creamy carbonara sauce with udon is always a great idea. Overall, thought this meal was pretty solid and so delicious. It's pricey but still a great option to have in the area. Happy to have a Japanese izakaya spot in Markham that is good!

Corn - MUST try!

This neighbourhood gem in Unionville (just off Main Street) in Markham is a fantastic yakitori bar and restaurant. Amazing vibes! Black interior with tight seating -- the place was packed the evening my friends and I went for dinner. Parking is a bit tough -- there's parallel parking on the space, but minimal -- you may have to park further into nearby residential neighbourhoods and walk. So give yourself extra time to park. Order via QR code here first. But staff are around to help! Sumoki boasts a large collection of sake and drinks. When we asked the server for recommendations, he first asked our budget (very thoughtful!) -- and then presented us a range of options within our price range. He never tried to up sell us and just described the flavour profiles for us to choose. We went with the #73 Taiheizan Sogetsu 720ml (shared between 6 people) and really enjoyed it! We were celebrating a few special occasions, and so we went for all the Premium food sets! They are pricier -- but really perfectly prepared. Some surprises were the grilled onigiri (definitely share with others because it's so filling), corn ribs, and the carbonara udon. Honestly though, EVERYTHING was good here. Which has not been my experience at yakitori bars. Usually, there's only a few star dishes. But here, everything is seasoned well, and carries the right textures. If you plan to go during peak hours, I do recommend you make a reservation. We had a reservation and still had to wait a little bit. Will definitely be back!

Since the move to Markham, I'm been to Sumoki a few times, and we love that this place opens 'til late since we often get off work late. This Japanese izakaya is tucked away near Main Street Unionville, with free street parking available. It is a nice place to wind down for some snacks, cocktails, and grilled skewers after a long day! The food quality is great, though a tad on the pricey side. Every dish is sharable between 2 people. The service is friendly and courteous as well. You order your food via QR code on the table, but you can also easily add/change items by telling your server. Some items I would recommend on the menu: - Mojito cocktail - Truffle Parmesan Yucca/Chicharron Fries - Mentaiko Carbonara Udon - Premium Set - it is a limited set with A5 Wagyu, Beef Tongue, Black Tiger Shrimp, Hokkaido Scallops, and Unagi

Came here on a friend's recommendation and so my wife and I decided to try. We made reservations a few days beforehand. Wait staff was alright and quite attentive. So we started to order food and food started to come. We started eating and we weren't like wowed by some of the earlier dishes? Only thing that I recalled was the dry aged scallops. This was something memorable, the rest were just subpar. Ambiance wise, it's blasting with Mando-Pop and I couldn't even hear myself. I do have to agree with other Yelpers about this place... it's a bit overrated.

First of all, I'm not sure where all my photos went from my phone. Sadly I only have this one. Venue: I like the vibe in here, it felt more like an izakaya place and the bbq smell wasn't too powerful. There are nice decors on the ceiling and booths were big enough to fit my family. We parked just by the condo visitors there. The concierge said we are allowed to park there for Sumoki. Service: We got seated right away, we walked in for 5 people. You do have to flag the staff to come to you. Maybe we went during a busy day. Food: The food was okay and mediocre if I compared it to a yakitori stand I used to go to in Japan. The prices were on the higher side too. I would come here not on an empty stomach for sure or you'll be spending a lot of $$. I would come again maybe to grab a few snacks. Yakitori is always a yes for me!

Came here for a girls night out and it was pretty busy. They have premium Japanese meat skewers which are great and the service was great too. Better to make reservations at this place.

Was excited to try a yakitori restaurant outside of Japan. They have a good selection of different meats and each order comes with one or two skewers. They skewers were all grilled really nicely and meats were tender. However, my favourite was the uni carbonara - just so creamy! The matcha beer was quite interesting too - tasted like a light beer with matcha. It is definitely on the pricier side for the amount of food you get. But service was great and very attentive. The atmosphere is dark but romantic.

I've never been to anything like this place before. When my friends said that they wanted skewers - I assumed it would be like the skewers places I've been to. This is WAY bbetter than those places. I've made reservations for 3 on Thursday for 7:15pm. My friends and I can early because we were starving and they seated us right away to our reserved table. It was all ready for us which was amazing. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It is so cute, cozy and the food was absolutely amazing. That soft shell crab burger was out of this world. I eat a lot of soft shell crabs and when I see it I have to order it. This was SO much bigger than all of the soft shells I've eaten and it was absolutely perfection that dare I say it - it was so much better than the Michelin pho place we went to. Not a lot of batter but still so crispy, no weird fishy taste - everything in the burger complimented it so well - it was worth the 26 dollar price tag. I'm still dreaming about it - it was so delicious. The corn ribs was recommended by the owner and oil, it was so unexpected- I never had corn like that bbefore and it blew my mind. My next favorite thing was the chicken skin. It was so chewy, smokey and crispy all in one. So darn good and brilliant. Next, I loved the evoking mushrooms with pork belly then the carbonara and rest of the skewers. My friends unlocked this new door for me and their food was so darn good that I'm finding myself craving it all the time now. The service was impeccable, the owner was taking turns with his servers to look after everyone and really takes the time to chat with us and recommend fan favorites. Although, my friends and I loittered too long (sorry sumoki!), we simply can't get enough of the food. I have to bring my bf here now for him to experience this place. It is so different from the typical skewer places- it's the quality you can taste. Can't wait to come back! Happy eating fellow helpers!

Decided to check out this new Izakaya spot after spending the day at Main St Unionville with a friend! We ordered a variety of dishes and skewers to share, and we both agreed that the food was full of well intended flavour! We sat at the bar, and the staff were helpful and explained the dishes to us each time. The ambiance was definitely busy, but we were still able to chat comfortably and catch up over great food!

Mentaiko carbonara udon and yamayuzu matcha cocktail
Angie L.

I came here for a friend's birthday and I thought that the setting was appropriate for special occasions. The waiters also seemed to be very attentive. I ordered the mentaiko carbonara udon with a matcha cocktail. The udon which just udon with an egg was $19.99, and cocktail was $14.99 (expensive for what you get). Compared to other skewer spots in markham, the prices on the entire menu seem unreasonable. We ended up going to another restaurant since we were still hungry.

Initially we were going for the idea of breakfast, but timing was a bit off from what we anticipated and it was a really nice lunch date instead. I love the Markham Marriott, the staff is always warm and welcoming. Draco has a very sleek, sophisticated and cozy atmosphere. We both ordered Bacon & Cheddar burgers. I opted for a Caesar salad as an appetizer and hubby ordered their Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak. Let's start with the apps. The Caesar salad was SO good! I wish I had taken a pic, but admittedly, my phone was tucked away and I was caught up in the cozy seating, great food and Christmas vibes of the restaurant and lobby. Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak: $33 - Buttercup Squash Puree and Truffle Oil - Everything you want Wagyu to be - tender, cooked to the perfect temp which left a nice warm red centre. This was melt in your mouth good! The burgers - these were perfection! Draco Bacon Cheddar Burger: $25 - Aged Cheddar with Crispy Bacon Strips; Crispy Onion Straws, Arugula and Garlic Aioli. This was a very well seasoned patty, so juicy and a substantial sized patty of fresh not frozen beef. The bun was lightly toasted, bacon crispy, easily taking this into my top 3 fav spots for burgers! Options for sides include fries, sweet potato fries, poutine, side Caesar or garden salad or truffle fries. We finished off our meal with 2 really good cappuccinos and just took our time before heading home. This was our first time back here in a few years. The food was exceptional as was the service and the warm staff. Draco is the perfect spot for an early morning breakfast, work or lunch date or a nice cozy dinner. We ordered the Grilled Sausage, Beef, Pork Belly, Lamb Skewers, and Charcoal Grilled Oysters. The skewers were all solid, better than most places I've tried, and I especially enjoyed their spicy seasoning blend that adds great flavour to the BBQ meats. Surprisingly, the grilled sausage was my favourite, it was juicy with a nice snap and a slightly sweet yet savoury taste. The lamb, however, was a bit too gamy for my liking. The Charcoal Grilled Oysters were tasty but felt a bit overpriced for the portion size, garnished with the usual chilli and garlic sauce you find at most BBQ spots. Service was decent, with food arriving fairly quickly (around 15 minutes) after ordering via QR code. The seating is a little tight and the chairs are on the low side, but still comfortable enough. Getting seated right away in the evening is nearly impossible, so I recommend calling ahead or arriving early to secure a spot. The bar's cozy atmosphere enhanced by the dim lighting, wooden decor, and playful wall doodles adds to the overall experience.

The variety of colours was not matched with a variety of flavours, and everything was somewhat on the salty and greasy side. That being said, we very much enjoyed the potato hash, pancakes, and French toast. The portion sizes also outdid themselves - if you're coming here for brunch, just be prepared for a long nap in the afternoon! Service was excellent: prompt, helpful, and friendly. The 12 wings and beer would have been such a good deal except the drink was pretty watered down. We brought it up to the waitress so hopefully they change that in the future.
