Hubby had the steak and chicken combo- he said the steak was bland and needed seasoning but liked the chicken. The salad that came with it was really good, nice and crisp with a yummy dressing. I ordered from this restaurant through Uber Eats, and it was excellent. Finding good food in Washington that isn't a burger can be tricky, but this really hit the spot. This was my second time dining at Sumo, and it was pretty great! Previously, I had ordered the Seafood Tempura, and it was delicious! I love the side salad with that scrumptious miso dressing and the miso soup! This time, I ordered the Chicken Katsu, and while it was good, I've had better. Most of the food here seems to be very good, but as a person of Japanese heritage, the rice is...subpar. Japanese rice is supposed to be sticky and soft. The rice here is not sticky, and very boring. I can usually eat traditional rice with chopsticks, but the rice here required a fork. But other than the disappointing rice, this place has a repeat customer! Rude service. The younger white hostess with the black hair consistently has a negative attitude. She always seems to make decent customer service feel like a major inconvenience to her. The younger asian woman server was also rude- gave me an attitude when I asked for clarity about a meal on the menu. It seems that the staff is frustrated and takes it out on the customers. Dinner tonight was horrible (overly salted) and even worse customer service she had the worst most terrible attitude, not speaking to us, rolled her eyes when she took our order, mixed up our orders and when she brought us our entree she stood over the table holding the plate while talking/ laughing across the room to another staff member I asked her to set the plate down (I was ignored) finally got her attention when I took the plate out of her hand and placed it on the table myself She and several other staff members stood around talking and eating our server was laughing and was extremely happy so it's not like she was having a bad day, she treated us like we were bothering her while she was trying to socialize We couldn't finish our awful meal and could no longer tolerate the way we were being treated read more

For Mother's Day this year my best half wanna sushi for dinner. The Mexican food in Yakima is, I think, some of the best you can find anywhere in the country. The sushi however, as always left a little bit to be desired. It's not bad, but it's never been awesome. I am happy to report that the sushi game in town has officially been upped! Sumo is a new Teppan-Yaki and sushi spot that opened up where Santiago is used to be on Yakima Avenue. We grabbed a number of rolls for takeout and even with the Automatic reduction in ambience that comes with eating sushi out of a to go box, the stuff was really good! We tried three random rolls, and all of them were excellent! A surprise however was the Yaki soba. The noodles weren't as thick as we've had in the past, but they were quite delicious. The winner of the evening however was the salmon skin hand roll. My wife has been looking for One of these that rivaled one that she had growing up, literally for the last 15 years. It looks like we finally found it! We're very excited to dine in here as they've made some pretty cool aesthetic changes to the inside of the restaurant. This is absolutely a spot you should check out if you're looking for some good sushi And Japanese style noodles. After one trip, I think this is probably our go to for sushi for the for seeable future! read more

We stopped by here to grab a quick late lunch on a weekday afternoon. Was very surprised to see they were quite busy considering it wasn't a busy lunch hour. They were fast to greet us and brought us the utensils and menu. Also they came pretty fast to take our order. Food came out quickly and they checked on us often. I got the Hibachi lunch with chicken teriyaki and salmon teriyaki. Comes with noodle, steamed rice (you can upgrade to fried rice), and a side of either miso soup or salad. He got the 3-sushi lunch set. Both lunch specials were very reasonably priced and the portions were big for the price. I enjoyed my lunch a lot. Both the salmon and chicken were perfectly cooked. The chicken was still tender and the salmon was flaky. His sushi were all fresh and the Mini Sumo Roll was flavorful. The restaurant is very spacious inside, very clean, minimalistic and modern. Everyone that works there was friendly and the service was fast! What a surprise great find. Parking is street but there's a parking lot nearby. read more

This is one other first authentic Japanese places I've ever been to and I will definitely be returning. This a nice spot off the Ave in a space that was recently remodeled. It's not my go-to for sushi, only because some of the rolls I've gotten here have been really small for the price. But it is a fun dine in experience and the staff is friendly. You can order a sake bomb, and the staff will gather to do a chant with you before cheering you on as you down it. My new favorite spot in Yakima. I've been wanting try this place for a while. I was going to take my niece there for her birthday last year with the two of us but she want something else but we went there Saturday night this year for her 10th birthday. We had a good amount of people in our party including kids and elderly people, service was awesome, I was ordering a bunch of apps for the table and requested the sashimi be cut int small pieces to accommodate the kids, came out perfect just as ordered. The kids didn't have the big pieces to try and chew on. Almost everybody in our party was intimidated by eating raw fish but not after Saturday night. I didn't think there could be a really good sushi place in Yakima but this place turned me. So impressed. Was so good and I travel around the world and this place is in my top 5, unbelievable.
