I needed something close to where we were, and my daughter wanted sushi and this place was right around the corner. We started with a couple of appetizers takoyaki and spicy edamame. Both were very good. After that my wife and daughter three rolls. A salmon skin and two other one that I can not remember the names of. But what I do know is I tried two of them and they were both excellent. As for me I had spicy undon noodles with chicken. I got it very spicy! It was hot but not hot to the point where it was difficult to eat. It was also very good. I would definitely recommend eating here.

Ok Sumo! I just love how my yelpie besties never steer me wrong! Sumo Asian kitchen offers such a nice environment for any occasion. Its decor is playful and eclectic and just brings a smile. I wish the actual restaurant was more visible to the public. It's a bit hidden behind construction I enjoyed everything we tried here. My notable favorites were the bao buns, ramen and sushi. The ramen has a rich broth made with amor. The sushi was fresh and so picture worthy. The bao buns made my husband order more The boba was not good. The tea yes, the boba was too tough. We will be back for sure

We needed a quick dinner before catching a show, and this place was perfect. The food came out fast, and our server was incredibly friendly--she walked us through the specialties and offered great recommendations. The cozy décor added to the experience, and every dish was flavorful and delicious. The Stuffed Tuna with truffle appetizer was outstanding, and the Hokkaido Roll was just as impressive. Highly recommend!

This is one of my favorite Asian restaurants in this area. They have amazing quality for all dishes. The sushi is always fresh, the bao buns are soft/flavorful , the meat dishes come out on sizzling hot plates. It has so many options if you like Asian food and even have some traditional Filipino dishes like sisig The service depends on how busy they are but the servers are always informative and helpful.

Came on a Friday night around 8:30 and got a table right away. It was a bit busy inside but we ordered an app and our sushi rolls. It took more than 30 mins for us to get our edamame and the restaurant was emptying out. So it was a tad bit frustrating but it came out hot and fresh. Maybe 10 mins later we got our sushi! The food was great. Presentation was also really cool. I would come again and give it a shot for the service and wait time. Our waitress was really nice though. It's a cool spot!

Super cute place to hang out and order some great food. Casual, clean and great service. Ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer. They came out quick. They were crunchy and came with a great sauce. The prawns are one of their specialties so I decided to order them. I am so glad I did. Super fresh, they came out on a sizzling plate. Beautifully presented. They were delicious. No liquor license but they have some awesome mocktails and the best boba teas! I ordered the Lychee lemonade omg, still thinking about it. In fact, I will probably go back for one today. Definitely support this small business. It's so worth it!!!

We had an event at the University across the street and luckily Yelp identified this excellent choice. Sumo Asian Kitchen has a cute, casual, very clean, modern interior and friendly efficient service. They don't serve alcohol but you can BYOB and there's a liquor store in the same strip mall as the restaurant. The menu is huge. Of note we had the Volcano Prawn Teppan, one of the Chef's specials. The sauce was unbelievably flavorful and the prawns were huge and perfectly cooked. I will return to try more of the curries and other Chef's specials b/c s/he clearly knows how to cook. Highly recommend this little gem

My second time here and it doesn't disappoint! Started with the Bulgogi Bao Bun, and enjoyed the One Piece Roll and a JB Roll. The service is just as good as the first time! Our server is attentive, made great recommendations, and patient with our little one. The aesthetic and ambiance is something to enjoy. The music selection is great and the neon signs are my favorite touch in this place. Then we finished it off with the Basque Burnt Ube Cheesecake I will definitely be back!

This is my girlfriend and I'd new comfort food spot. It was our second time here and we have yet to have had a bad experience. My girlfriend ordered her pad Thai with medium spice but it ended up being too spicy for our taste buds, and they replaced it with no issues and VERY quickly. Service is always lovely and we enjoy the ambiance of the space. Menu has all kinds of options like ramen, sushi, fried rice and more, so there's always something for everyone in your party. We're very happy with this new restaurant and will be going back to try more ASAP!

I'm back months later to reiterate that Sumo has one of the best lunch deals in the city. This diy bento box, plus a drink for $20. It's fulfilling, fresh and tasty. What more can you ask for!

Delicious and cute sushi spot! My bf and I I came for lunch today and we loved it! The restaurant is decorated with Japanese artwork and signs. Our server was really nice along with who I think was the manager who came to check on us. Our food tasted so good and sushi was fresh. The portions are good size to share. The ultraman roll was so fire! I can't wait to come back and try their ramen. I love that this sushi spot is less than 10 min away from me. Definitely worth a try and will be back soon!

It opened not too long ago and it was on my list to visit and I am glad I did. It's a cute cozy restaurant and the food is amazing as well as the atmosphere! presentation of their sushi and mocktails above all. We first had to try their mocktails we went for the Pink Dragon: Dry dragon fruit with soda, lychee juice, lime juice, and rose flower. Garnish with mint leaves and ice. Appetizers, we tried: Takoyaki Fried octopus cake ball drizzled with mayo and katsu sauce topped with bonito flakes and scallions. and Jumbo Shrimp Shumai Steamed shrimp dumplings and scallions served with dumpling sauce. For dinner main, we tried their Tonkotsu Ramen Creamy pork bone reduction, cha shu pork, egg noodles, sweet corn, soft-boiled egg, mushroom, bamboo shoots, fish cake, scallion, and nori. (It can be subbed with other protein options). we also tried Volcano Roll California roll with cream cheese topped with baked seafood, masago, scallions, and sesame seeds./ Basic Roll with Scallion and Salmon. For Dessert, we had the Basque Burnt Ube Cheesecake. Everything was amazing the service and attention given were topnotch. I will return as their menu has so many options to choose from making it hard to decide. They have outside seating and plenty of parking in the plaza.

Back in a small retail area near SE 17th Street, this restaurant apparently opened in late 2019 and then had to close because of the pandemic. But it returned and now offers homemade food with terrific service. The place is small, seating about 30 in an at-home-at-the-dining-table style. Our server, who I think was an owner, was very friendly and even helped us choose a dish. We had to have lumpia, because it was one of the first Filipino foods we ever tried (decades ago). Although these were good, my friends' (shoutout to Analisa and Belinda) native eggrolls were much better. For our main entrees we had the adobosilog and the tapsilog. The adobo dish came with white rice topped with a fried egg, some shaved carrots, a couple of slices of cucumber and tomato. The adobo, though a tad salty, had a delicious soy-vinegar flavor and brought me back to the dish my pal Joe made for us a couple of times. The tapsilog was shaved beef that came with the same accompaniments but it was so salty that I had to mention it when the lady asked me how things tasted. She went and told the chef. (I did not complain about the adobo.) And he insisted that the price of the meal be removed from our bill. Ummm. OK. We splurged on dessert and shared the last piece of Ube (purple yam) cake (bought from an outside vendor) and a halo-halo. The cake was smooth and not too sweet. The halo-halo was shaved ice with ice cream, milk, and a variety of ingredients including beans, corn, and plain gelatin cubes. You have to mix it all up to get a good flavor. Hubby did not care for it because it was not sweet enough (yet he refused to add some condensed milk). It was my favorite dish of the entire meal. (I love cold, creamy, not-so-sweet desserts.) The portions don't match the price. While you get a humungous mound of rice, the meat is skimpy and entrees average about $20 each. And like most small places, there is a surcharge if you use a credit card instead of cash. Even with one meal removed, our bill was about $55 and would have been closer to $80. We do plan to go back and try some other dishes. Let's hope the salt content has lessened. (Remember chef: you can add salt but you can't remove it.)

It definitely was a hefty wait for the empanadas that has been trending on social media. You can tell that it is somewhat disorganized, as there was only one person outside helping with clearing the dishes, serving the dishes; one person taking orders from a nonstop line and one male in the back working up to go orders. I feel like if there was more organization, it would be better. However, the empanadas were very filling. One empanadas is enough to provide all the protein servings in a day. We ordered the beef empanadas, and it was definitely filled to the brim. It was an interesting take, with Filipino flavors of beef and cabbage stuffed inside, with a side of soy sauce vinaigrette. I also noticed a whole lechon placed on the table beside the cashier that looked like it is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I would love to come back on a less busy day to try the hot foods on the menu and maybe give a better rating next time.

What upset me most wasn't the mistake itself--everyone makes mistakes. It was the way we were treated afterward. Instead of apologizing, the employee blamed the weather and said, of course, it melted because my husband had taken it outside. She even rolled her eyes and gave us an attitude, as if the situation was somehow our fault. As long-time customers, we expected better customer service.
