A great place to go for a weekend walk/hike. The trails actually have several entrances and exit, including one in the middle of a neighborhood block that's quite far from the park. Anyway, there are two entrances to the trail from the park; both are located in the parking lot. Both entrances have signs telling you that this is the trail (make sure you go to the huge parking lot near the community center at the back of the park; it's not located near the front, small parking lot near the traffic lights) Anyway, the trails here can either be short or long, depending on how you plan your hike. There are several trails branching off here and there, and should you choose to go through all of them, then that may take awhile. Otherwise, just following one trail to the end isn't so bad. You can sometimes see some cool animals here, such as deer or even rattlesnakes. Watch out for rattlesnakes, though. I've only seen one once, and I only noticed that it was there because I heard an ominous rattling sound. read more

Who knows, but this park has instantly become one of my favorite parks; so much so that I came from Rowland on consecutive days to enjoy it! First of all, Summitridge Park isn't really much of a park in the traditional sense. There is a large parking lot at the top, couple patches of grassy areas below, a softball field at the lower level, and their main attraction which is a super fancy community center building everyone raves about. My main reason for coming here though was to try out their trails, which I had grossly underestimated (because a friend once misinformed me saying this is a senior center park... and so I thought how hard can the trails at a senior center be?). Well, I got my butt kicked and learned my lesson... twice! My first visit was around sunset. I quickly found the trail by the far side of the parking lot and started hiking thinking I'll be back really quick before it gets too dark. Before I knew it, I was in the midst of a pretty challenging trail! I enjoyed the beautiful sunset sky before choosing to take the Canyon Route (vs Ridge Route). As I was heading down the canyon, I saw the Ridge Route trail along the ridge above and thought maybe those are the "senior trails" haha. By the time I got down all the way, it was already dark! I put on the headlamp I brought just in case (thank god!) and started my climb back up another way. The climb out of the canyon totally kicked my ass! Uphills were really steep at certain points. I was so lucky to have my headlamp as I couldn't see anything otherwise. Enjoying the beautiful night scenery, I made my way back to the parking lot, and told myself I'm so coming back here tomorrow! So for visit #2, I came a bit earlier in the day to enjoy it in the sun. This time I took the Ridge Route, which I had earlier thought was the "senior trail." From far away, the Ridge Route looks to be a pretty easy flat trail but it is deceptively challenging. Once you start hiking this trail, the signs suddenly say "Steep Canyon Trail"... WTF? And they're not kidding; there were couple parts with some of the most steep dips and climbs I've seen. Fortunately, along the scenic points at the trail there were benches to rest and enjoy the view. Continuing the hike took me down to the canyon (very steep going down, so be careful) where I was the day before. I climbed out of the canyon via Canyon Route; no way I was doing those dips and climbs up at the ridge again! Yeah... so these trails aren't really casual nor senior as I had thought. These are serious trails, and a lot of fun! The scenery here is... some of the best I've seen at a city park. All around, you have views of mountains, hills, valleys, cities, all quite beautiful. Unlike Rowland, the view isn't tainted with high voltage towers and power lines everywhere; I really appreciated that. I can't wait to come hike here again. Wow what a hidden gem! First of all, I need to say that I had trouble finding this spot. My GPS brought to me to the parking lot at the bottom of the hill. What you want to do is continue up the hill and look for the community center. You can either enter the right parking lot or the left. I started from the right. Be warned, there are a lot of steep inclines especially if you just the right side. I made a mistake of following a sign and going downhill to a canyon. Unless you have great leg strength, I don't recommend going down this particular path. My legs began to wobble as I went a fair distance so I decided to turn around. Follow the loop that continues down to the stairs. If you're looking for water as the pictures show, you'll be disappointed as there was no water. However, that didn't destroy the experience at all. One of the more challenging hikes I've done. If you follow the directions on yelp and turn at summitridge you'll be in a neighborhood. Turn at the light before and follow the road up to the community center. Parking is free and the trail head is at the far end of the parking lot, you can't miss it. The hike is about 2 to 2 .5 miles and loops back , so it's pretty hard to get loss. You'll walk up a steep hill initially and then come to a fork in the road. Take the left and it's the canyon trail , go right it's steep something trail. Either way they are both great hikes in my opinion; there are constant waves of incline and decline. I think I have some pretty fit/strong legs and there where moments I wanted the hills to just go flat haha. It's a great little challenging hike that can be done in an hour to an hour and a half. read more

I'm new to hiking, previous injuries to my knee keep me away from the basketball court these days. So I decided to try these trails. I parked at the Community center adjacent from the trails, and started on the Ridge Route trail, which is about 1.6miles. Its a tough little hike at first, then curves to a flat portion and then a steep incline. That by itself is worth the hike, however, if you want to push yourself, continue to Canyon Loop (pause for the view of DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES) and then back to Ridge Route. Done! Huffing and Puffing and almost an 1 1/2 later! I recommend Summitridge Trails to everyone. I was in the area last week (thanks to the opening of Daiso at Chino Hills) and I wanted to check out some of the hikes. With all these great reviewers from other yelpers here, I just had to check the Summitridge Park out. The trail itself starts near the Diamond Bar Center. There are plenty of parking here and the it's very easy to find. The difficulty of the trail itself is not hard at all (around 2 hours if you do the entire trail at a leisurely pace). There are plenty of signs to guide you through so there is no way of getting lost. Since the trail is already starting pretty high up ground which means very early on, there is already an amazing panoramic view of the city with the many hills in the background. At every high ground point that you reach, there is always a sign nearby telling you what exactly you are looking at which is really cool because not a lot of hikes I did has anything like it. At the Northeast Panoramic viewpoint, it's even possible to see Mt Baldy (highest point of the LA County) and Mt Gorgonio (highest point of the San Bernandino County) on a good day. I would recommend bringing a few snacks here so that you can sit on the nearby bench while appreciating some pretty view. This park is definitely a little gem in the area and I would highly recommend this trail. Even if you live a bit of a distance like I do, I will say making a trip out here is still worth it. read more

Loved this trail. It's not that long... I forget the actual miles, but it took me and my friends a little over an hr to hike this... smooth pace, not too fast, but not slow. There are some steep areas though so it's challenging enough. The scenery is very nice. There are point where you walk by homes, but it's not too bad. Park behind the Diamond Bar community center. The trail head is on the opposite end of the parking lot. It starts off as "Summit Ridge Trail". You'll go down some stairs. Then you'll see a sign that note "Steep Ridge Trail" that goes up steeply. You'll come to a fork it the trail... you can go to the right along the ridge, or left down into the canyon. I think either way you take the loop you will come across some steep areas. The canyon is more shaded then ridge. read more

I died, let's just say that. I took my siblings and I here on our day off - MLK weekend and really thought it was easy. I am unsure how many trials there were, but we ended up on the Steep Canyon Trail? I remember "Steep" something. Anyway, the trial started off behind the Diamond Bar Center, off Grand Ave. It starts off with beautiful stairs going down and then into some serious business. The trail consists of very large steeps (no joke) and hills. There is one part of the trail after going up a large hill has a section with benches so you can relax and catch your breath. There is a map directory to show what you can see from the hilltop view - beautiful sight! You can also see DTLA - oh it caught my breath. I love it! Towards the end of the trail - going down, it gets windy and back and forth route. However, you go back a different direction, but end up back where you started, which is cool because most hikes I've taken are usually one-way. I suggest to bring water, alot. I am in shape, and I almost died on this trail, such a great workout for your lower body, especially for the booty! If going on a warm day, wear a hate and sunscreen. Hidden gem route, forsure. Can I bring a can of Raid with me on my hike? I don't care for the many red ants. :/ Otherwise, I love how close by and convenient this trail is to me. It's a quick hike I can do after work and still make it in time to go home and make dinner. So far, I've done the Canyon Loop and Ridge Route trails. Both are a good workout. Tried this trail out with a friend who has never hiked before lol! We loved it! Nice and clean environment, some steep points but we managed not to die! Everyone there is very nice! And such a beautiful 360 view once you reach the top of the hill with the benches. I will definitely be coming back! Oh and definitely wear sunblock read more

My friends and I have hiked here many, many times! We always have a grand time hiking and talking here. The uphills kick our butts, but is necessary for building envious buns. You'll see cute bunnies, especially during sunsets. Depending on the season, there can be many black beetles and red ants. Park closes gate around sunset. Please be conscious of this so you don't get locked in. read more

First time hiking here and it was so beautiful. The trail is hidden behind the park/center. My Gps took me the back way but if u drive into the park you can park up the hill closer to where the trail begins. There's 2 lookout points where u can see the surrounding cities, so gorgeous. I like to pace myself and enjoy nature so it took me roughly 1hr 45 min. The only thing I did not like was the trail I was on became very narrow with tall shrub on the side and I got scared :\ Overall it's a great hike and I'm most definitely coming back. read more

Depending on what is going on in our lives, our family has hiked here from once a week to once every month or two for the last 2 1/2 years. It takes us about an hour to hike. We love the variety - open areas, tree-filled valley, cacti and brush, great views. If you start from the overflow parking lot to the left of the Diamond Bar Center it is a lung-buster. I keep thinking the steepest part will get easier, but I'm still waiting! ;-) If you start from the main parking lot (to the right of the Diamond Bar Center), it is easier on the lungs but harder on the knees since the hills are more gradual going up but steeper going down. Benches along the way for enjoying the peachy-gold sunset. I have seen deer, tarantula hawks, tarantulas, and lots of birds. My kids and some other adults with them have seen rattlesnakes, and hikers coming towards us have seen coyote and rattlesnakes, but they've always been out of sight by the time I got there. If you are hiking in the evening, it doesn't hurt to check with DBC staff to find out how late events are going on. When the center is empty they sometimes need to lock the upper parking lots, but the time can vary. If unsure, it is always safe to park in the lower parking lot between the ball field and the road. Parking is free. Bathrooms and drinking fountains available in the DBC. Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers but is a nice one for dogs on leashes. I Love to hike! This is a great hidden gem in the heart of Diamond Bar. The visual scenery and views are amazing! 360 degree views from all over. This his has really came a long way with the addition of signs, benches, informative view aids as well! There are 2 or 3 ways to go on this hike and a few ways to get to it. I like to hike a lot and as frequently as possible when the weather permits and this is a great little hike. It is not long and not extremely challenging so you can do it at your own pace or even jog parts of it while enjoying the great view! Animals should be on a leash and the signs say that it closes shortly after sunset. I have done a night hike here before though. Also during the warm months keep an eye out for snakes/rattlesnakes because I have seen one before! Otherwise look at the pictures for this hike and enjoy! read more

I love this park! It's got great hiking paths with exercise stops (balance beams and ladders, etc) and lots of open space to run around with soccer greens and a baseball field. The crowning jewel of this park is the community center. It's a HUGE center and a great space for wedding receptions, etc with BEAUTIFUL views of the city below. read more

I have been hiking Summitridge park trails for a while. I think this is the best trials in this area. I always start from the trailhead near Diamond Bar main parking lot. The trail starts with slopes so some people might feel a little challenging. After over the slopes, we start to enjoy the great views by looking down towards the grand avenue. The views just so wide open and beautiful. We stay on the trails, follow the sign to lead us to steep canyon trail. This is the most sleep one of all trials in this park. The steepness tells by its name. Your efforts are paying back once you get to the top. The 360 degree view is just amazing. To me, the most challenging part is the loose sand on the slopes, so be sure you wear hiking shoes with good traction. To me, the best time of a day for this hike is before sunset to avoid direct sunlight since there is no shade on this hike. And you can enjoy the beautiful sunset to wrap up a nice hike. read more
