I'm so bummed that we used Summer Orthodontics. My son needs his braces off and they said he needs an appointment in two weeks. But there is NOTHING in the schedule available and they will not help. He should not have to leave school to get his braces off. He has a poking wire that is also hurting him and they will not give us a follow up appointment. This review is long overdue. Came here got my teeth straighten up. We decided on Invisalign treatment. I was not completely satisfied with the way my teeth looked at the end but that was not the worst part. The worst part is that on the last day when they took off all glue bumps and all, dr. Summer shaved the bottom of my teeth. Yes they were wavy, but I loved them the way the were, I had them for my whole life, and it is nobody's place to push their aesthetic preferences on another person. She did that without asking, just assuming that it would look better. When I look at the mirror I was terrified-that is how much shorter they got. Years later I am still upset about it. It is like I came for breast implants and the doctor gave me two size bigger just because it was their preference. I simple wanted my teeth to be straight, not perfect small squares that look anything but natural. Short shaved off teeth that all look the same and are the same length, including fangs and front teeth, are not associated with youthful looks, but rather worn down teeth. That maybe the look that Hollywood pushes on you but not everyone wants to look like an over-polished/fake movie star. How do I fix this now?.. Pardon my English, still feeling emotional. read more

I did not feel good about getting braces, but when I walked through the door they were all very nice. They have a very comfortable waiting room and they are always playing a fun movie. I felt good while I was getting my braces put on because Doctor Brandy told me what she was doing the hole time. At the end of the appointment they gave me everything I needed for home, and checked me out. But my favorite part of the appointment was that I got to choose what color braces I got. read more

Now over 6 Years in braces after being told by Dr. Summer herself that it would take just over one year to fix my smile. Awful communication between dentists and front desk team. Was told my last visit they would need to contact my prosthodontist and oral surgeon before moving forward and was GHOSTED for a month. After finally hearing back from them I was told to make the soonest appointment i could with my prosthodontist and upon doing so was told that it wouldn't work because Dr Summer doesn't work on mondays. The next available appointment is 6 weeks from now and I am left with a missing tooth and crooked smile for even longer, but hey 6 weeks is a drop in the bucket compared to 6 years must be there reasoning. Dr. Summer and her team have robbed me of 6 years of self confidence and a smile I can be proud of. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE OR THEIR CHILDREN GO HERE FOR ORTHODONTIC WORK. read more

My daughter had her braces put in at the beginning of the year with Dr. Summer. Her dad had been taking her to her most of her appointments but explained how professional, pleasant, informative and helpful the staff is. I have recently been taking her to all of her appointments and am very pleased with their appointment process, their follow-up and just over all customer service. Dr. Summer and her staff are great! They came highly recommended by Manhattan and Hermosa beach parents and I am so glad we took my daughter here. Though, there were many times when she is in pain, uncomfortable or had a broken wire, they do their best to help alleviate that and get her in to ensure its not serious and something they can help fix right away. The office is clean, well lit, has a nice big television playing kid friendly movies, a few iPads with wifi for use and ample seating in their waiting room. PARKING: Metered parking along the street and in the underground garage or parking structure across the way. Can be tough during the lunch and dinner peak times. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY WILL RANDOMLY MAKE UP NEW RULES, AND PRICES!!!!!!, EVEN WHEN YOU'RE AN EXISTING PATIENT!!!!! I've had a bonded retainer on for over 30 years!!! Last year, I broke one bond and called them to fix it. They made me pay $150 for a "new patient fee" but said it was a one time fee and to fix the bond, was just about $20 per tooth. Ok, fine...I paid that. The single bond that they "fixed" kept coming off. I've had it fixed multiple times paying $20 each time......until today. I go to make another appt because the SAME BOND THAT THEY FIXED KEEPS COMING OFF, and now they want to charge me $150 office visit plus $50/bond! That's 10x more than I've been paying. I told her to look at my records and that I'm NOT a new patient anymore as I have been there more than once. PLUS, it is their shoddy work that keeps popping off. The rest of the retainer has been on, with no. problem, for DECADES!!! WHAT A TERRIBLE OFFICE and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Stay Away! Thank goodness I found this out prior to bringing my 11 year old in for a consultation as she needs braces soon! read more

This review is long overdue. I would give 0 stars if I could. I went in for a consult for Invisalign 2-3 years ago. I completely agree with previous reviews that stated Dr. Summers has a very condescending demeanor. Her staff was also very young and disrespectful. It felt like I was in a dental office run by snobby sorority sisters, gossiping and laughing behind your back. I also questioned whether or not the poor treatment I received was because I was Asian. The quote I received was also almost double the cost of quotes I received from other places. Needless to say, I did not give Summer Orthodontics my business nor would I recommend the office to anyone else. read more

Dr. Summer and her staff are incredible! I had my Invisalign done here and I am so happy with my experience. They are fast, efficient, and organized. Dr. Summer and her staff are very professional and soooo nice. The girls who work at the front desk are always so sweet and you never wait more than a couple minutes, if that! They have a whole system down so you are never waiting in your chair either. The staff reviews your teeth and then Dr. Summer comes right over. I went back to make a few adjustments so I could have my teeth exactly how I envisioned them, and they were so accommodating. They will keep seeing you until you are completely satisfied with your teeth. I'm actually a little sad it's all over because I had such a great experience there. I was really disappointed with the customer service at Summer Orthodontics. The staff did not provide clear instructions or explanations of my treatment. They also could not remember details about me or my treatment from one appointment to the next. They did not plan ahead or prepare me for what was going to happen at each appointment. For example, it was a major inconvenience to learn that a liquid diet would start immediately. When I complained, the doctor actually joked that most women liked the opportunity for weight loss. When I asked for safety glasses, they said they weren't legally required to provide them. I pointed out that a child could be inadvertently injured with a sharp instrument or chemical, but the staff was unconcerned. After many requests they finally agreed to provide me with eye protection, but not the other patients. When the doctor added attachments that prevented me from chewing, I questioned her and she became angry with me. Before we could discuss it further she began removing the attachments. She said she would rather remove them immediately than see me back in her office before my next appointment. It really bothered me that she seemed willing to compromise my treatment in order to avoid an emergency visit. The treatment coordinator was completely unhelpful when it came to questions of billing or insurance. She became upset with me for asking technical questions that she didn't know the answers to. When I pointed out a mistake in my bill, she was unable to justify the error and she refused to correct it. I had countless problems during my treatment, but the worst part of my experience with this staff was the way they handled problems. I tried to work things out with them for more than a year, but each time I voiced my concerns they were unapologetic. They told me they had never had any complaints before, so they weren't going to take mine seriously. I can forgive unintended mistakes, but their refusal to listen to feedback was unacceptable. read more

After over 3 years of treatment, I moved out of state due to family emergency without completing the treatment. I was very disappointed, but I was not going to keep my braces on without knowing when I would return and how much longer it would take. She advised I would have to start all over again at my new location!! That would result zero stars here but... Overall the staff is very friendly and the facility is clean. I wish every dentist used strawberry scented pink latex gloves! It's located in the heart of Manhattan Beach with an amazing view. It's surrounded by fun boutiques and eateries to kill time if you arrive or complete early. The parking structure across the street is super convenient as well. I really cannot say enough great things about Dr. Summer and her staff. My daughter has never once been afraid of going to the orthodontist because everyone there is so friendly. While my daughter is being taken care of, my son (who's next in line for some snazzy new braces) is able to play on an iPad and/or watch some fun movie on the huge tv in the waiting room. Summer Ortho quoted us a 15 month treatment plan for our sons and the braces are coming off almost 6 months early! Woohooo!

At first we were really impressed with the quality of service and expertise my teenage daughter received at Summer Orthodontics. However over time the competency level of staff declined greatly. Numerous times there were breakage issues with wires and the assumption was always it was something my daughter did. Finally she got her braces off and the results were great. However, the staff declined to tell us at numerous follow up visits that she would need to have the bottom retainer replaced with a new one. They waited til it broke and then made us wait a week to see her. In that time one of her bottom teeth shifted. They never apologized or offered to correct the situation. Instead they told my daughter she'd need to get braces again to fix it! I would not recommend this orthodontist to anyone! read more

This review is based on one awesome interaction with this office. I had a poking wire in the back on the bottom and was desperate for some relief after a few days of non stop pain (I had just got in from an international flight and wax wasn't helping). My teeth have been moving, which is a good thing, but that meant the wire was moving beyond the back bracket. I no longer live in the area and would have had to wait four more days to see my ortho up north. I called up Summer Orthodontics and I was able to get seen the same afternoon. The office staff and orthodontic assistants were so kind given that I was not a regular patient. They cut the poking wire and checked/clipped any other poking wires. I was in and out within 30ish minutes from when I called their office. They even provided me with wax! When I went to leave I was ready to pay any amount and was told it wouldn't be necessary. If I still lived in MB then it would be no question to go to Summer Orthodontics. So grateful for their help and my mouth is already feeling so much better!! read more

I just finished my treatment with Dr. Summer and I couldn't be happier. My teeth look absolutely amazing thanks to her. I am absolutely pleased with Dr. Summer's work. The staff at Summer Orthodontics are extremely nice, especially Brandi and Monica. Also, the entire environment of the office is warm and inviting. Some of the office chairs have a tv playing favorite kid movies, and some of them have an ocean view. Overall, the office is decorated very nicely. My favorite aspect of Summer Orthodontics is the use of technology. Everything is done electronically, even checking into the office. Summer Orthodontics is extremely organized, and they always send multiple emails to their patients to remind them of upcoming appointments. Love, Love, Love this place! My son was really apprehensive about getting braces. But once he got in that office, he completely forgot his worries. The staff is amazing. They have been so kind to him - and stop to address all of his questions while they are working on him. He's still a little guy - so that makes all the difference. When we researched orthodontists we set out to find one who is competent. Dr. Summer is beyond competent. We didn't know what to expect as far as people skills, office staff, and general communication. They have exceeded every expectation of ours. We are so grateful to have found them.
