Took my 2.5 years old in for his check up. The front desk is very helpful and kind. We were inside pretty quickly. Dr. Is very friendly to my kid and explaining everything she was doing. She checked him thoroughly and quickly. After she checked him out, she showed some pictures she took in the beginning. Before we left she taught me how to take care of his teeth. He was enjoying his dentist visit and gets to pick the prize at the end. According to the front, she's not contracted with insurance but will help with the claim. Depends on your insurance, they will send the bill for things not cover by insurance. For my son, it was a check up so hopefully we don't have to pay, so far no bill (we went over a month ago). read more

Dr. Sumalee is a wonderful pediatric dentist. We have been taking our kids to her for 10 years and she has always been patient and gentle. Her practice has gotten quite busy over the years and there are now other technicians who do the cleanings. Both my kids have had sealants and extractions done by Dr. S and they were painless. Be prepared -- she is expensive and does not accept all dental plans, but she is a great dentist. read more

We had a perfect first time dental visit for my 3 year old daughter. She's fearful of doctors and cried for a bit but the staff was super patient and understood what it took to calm her. She left with a big smile on her face, and will have no problem next visit. Dr Sumalee and her staff are wonderful and knows how to deal with toddlers. They are pretty kid friendly there and the two times that we've be in we haven't had to wait very long. But they are not insurance friendly: they haven't submitted claims for payment and have not been helpful in my submitting my own claims. I changed to Dr. Carpenter who has a great manner with kids and adults and whose front office is great about submitting claims to our insurance. read more

She's great, front office staff could be a bit nicer. However, to make anyone wait for 28 minutes is just wrong. Perhaps the next time we go, we will upgrade from 3 stars to 4. You wouldn't wait 15 minutes let alone 28, so why should your PAYING clientele have to wait? Not cool, not ok, our time is just as precious as yours. Also, make sure you check your EOB'S from your insurance and compare it to their invoices. Caught something that wasn't hefty price at all,but makes me wonder how many times they do this. They also said that if my insurance didn't cover it, then I'm responsible which is not correct, if you have a relationship with the insurance companies you are bound by that agreement and pricing. read more

I wouldn't go to any other dentist! She is the queen of pediatric dentists! My 1 year old grandson has had his cleanings by the best. He happened to have a couple of cavities :( and Dr. Sumalee was fast and got the job done. Thank you! I was recommended to Dr. Sumalee by a coworker whose 2 daughters have been going to her for years. My son has clocked in 2 visits with her and both were great experiences...well as great as any regular teeth cleaning can be. My 4yr son is pretty bad about any strange office visits but Dr. Sumalee's office and staff are very kid friendly. From the toys in the lobby ( some eclectic but my son is fascinated with the old school typewriter) to the fun wall decor and monitors on the ceiling, my son was distracted enough to not be scared. Plus the dentist and her staff are so friendly, patient and thorough throughout the whole appt. answering any questions we had and talking through each step of the procedures. the extra bonus for my son is the toy he gets to pick out at the end. Dr. Sumalee is a lifesaver. We were just about to leave town for vacation when my regular dentist decided my daughter needed to see a pediatric dentist. We are not regular patients of Dr. Sumalee's, but she made the time for me to bring in my daughter, and to do a consultation and filling on the same day for a very advanced cavity that was threatening the nerve. She saved my nerves by being so accommodating and also gave us a discount, which she totally did not have to do. Honestly, I wish I had come to her years ago. I took my 3 1/2 year old for a clean up. It was her first visit (yes, we were a bit behind on the first visit) and the dental hygienist LAURA was fantastic! My daughter was a bit frightened and wanted to cry, but her approach was the best! My daughter ended up with shiny clean teeth. Then Dr. Sumalee came in and check her teeth out. Gave us a full report and we were out of there. For my experience it was worth the $148 for the first visit and cleaning. I wanted an office that felt kid friendly and that's what we got! We had yet another excellent visit with Dr. Sumalee. My son turns 11 this year. The staff is efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I really like the new online appointment system since I live out of the country but the office phone is answered by a live person too! The office is clean, comfortable and kid friendly. There is a screen on the ceiling above the dentist chair and it is helpful when my son needs distracting. The hygienist takes time and care with my son and even answers questions I may have. Anytime he shows signs of anxiety or discomfort she actually speaks to him and explains what she will do before doing so. This makes him trust so he cooperates. When we see the dentist she is so thorough and our visits are so informative and individualised. I learn so much from Dr. Sumalee with each visit. This time she pointed out some (what seemed like small things) that can cause problems for him later including his safety and swallowing. She shared simple short term solutions for me to do at home and consultations I will need for long term. Since he started seeing her as a baby, I've gotten diet, probiotic, and other tips from her. So many issues that can affect oral health. I do not remember any of MY dentists being so informative. Even my son looks forward to the visits and he remembers the information she gives me. I have never been here, but I have tried calling this place several times already and have left voicemails for them to return my call to try and schedule an appointment for my daughter, and they have yet to call me back. I live in Upland, CA and due to a high referral, I was willing to make the drive to Pasadena, but due to the lack of being able to return a simple phone call. Forget it! Not Coming. read more

I've taken my sons to Dr. Sangsurasak for years, and am sorry they've now almost "aged out" of the office. One of my sons had complex dental issues requiring multiple procedures, and the other had a major trauma with broken front teeth, in addition to the usual dental care. We've been going to Dr. Sumalee for 5 years and she has her good and bad days. Sometimes she's patient and other times she's rushing us out of there. Her hygienists are a hit and miss. Her prices are outrageous. A pea-size amount of fluoride, which made my son throw up, was $36. Really? An office visit that her receptionist recommended when I called about my son's tooth coming in crooked was $56 for a 3 minute visit. That should have been a courtesy visit, or $25 at most. Although she seems to provide decent care and the decor is distracting for the kids, they are business first and care a far second. read more

I would like to highly highly discourage anyone from contacting this office for your child because you will experience so much disappointment . Here is what happened to me today, I called the office for the first time to make an appointment for my son because his pediatrician recommended Dr. Sumalee. My son's pediatrician said this dentist is her long time friend. Fist, the phone rang and rang. Then someone finally answered, said " Dr. Sumalee's office, this is Pat." Silent. So I said "hi I would like to make an appointment for my nine months old son, new patient." Silent. So I continued. "Do you need my insurance information?" Silent. At this point I'm thinking, wow seriously? This is the first impression of this office, this person is supposed to bring in business? Finally she said, "you'll have to pay $148 for the first time patient exam and x-rays, no matter what" I told her that would not be an issue. Still she hasn't told me whether or not I can make an appointment. She went on to get my son's name and a contact number. Then she rudely told me that I'm talking too fast. So I finally had it and I asked her if that is how she treats new patient, and there's no apology from her but "well you were talking too fast and I couldn't get the information." I decided right then to end the call. First of all, you rude miserable receptionist, what's your name Pat ? learn to do your job, it's basic customer service. Dr. Sumalee, if you are reading this and you are a smart business woman then you will fire Pat immediately because I'm guessing this isn't the first complaint you've heard about this person. To sum up my experience...this office is rude, cold, unwelcoming, and bad business. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Sumalee for over 12 years, and she is the absolute BEST pediatric dentist around!!!! I am a pediatric nurse and I really appreciate the time she takes to educate my children about proper nutrition and how it not only affects their teeth, but their overall health. She really goes out of her way to explain things in terms that are easily understood by my children. I appreciate her approach and believe she is a very qualified doctor. About five years ago, my nephew was in town from New Jersey and he had an abscess on his tooth. She took him in no problem and helped him right away. My sister-in-law jokingly said she is worth the plane ride out twice a year! She is awesome!!! The only drawback is the insurance acceptance, but she is worth it! I am shocked at the negative reviews I am seeing on here, not at all how my many experiences have been with this office. Dr. Sumalee is also a very well-respected doctor among her peers. read more

We brought my youngest in to see Dr. Sangsurasak after getting a referral from a family friend. Her office was very nice, kid-oriented, but she was kind of uptight, and quite frankly, did not seem to have the patience that kids need. Maybe we just caught her on a bad day. read more

My daughter has been seeing Dr. Sumalee for 10 years. She is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated. My daughter has weak enamel and before we started seeing Dr. Sumalee she had to have two crowns on her teeth. She was only four years old. I changed from our previous pediatric dentist to Dr. Sumalee and my daughter has not had even one cavity. She was very proactive and truly saved my daughter's teeth. She is pleasant and the kids love the tv screens on the ceiling. All of my interactions with the staff have been lovely. read more

Dr. S is great! She is a master at what she does. I had a lot of anxiety about my daughter needing a procedure, for which 2 other dentists had suggested anesthesia. Dr. S clearly explained all the options and ended up only giving her something mild. She took care of things very quickly and effectively. Only con is she's not an in-network provider so you end up paying a good chunk out of pocket. read more

Dr Sumalee has been our kids' dentist for years. The kids love her office and she is very good at getting kids to cooperate and she doesn't force anything, which I appreciate as it creates a comfortable environment for the kids. My son (who is autistic) had a filling and she was great! She got him calm and did everything so quickly that he barely noticed. Then, when he gagged and threw up she had extra shirts in the bathroom for him to change into! My only complaint is that she doesn't contract with any insurance but that was never a problem for me bc they did send all invoices to our insurance for reimbursement. However, now my ppo insurance has changed and since she doesn't contract with any insurance, we have to pay a hefty premium to see her, about 50% of the full price of the cost after deductible is met. It makes it harder to justify taking my 3 kids any longer, which is a shame. If her rates were a bit lower to make up for the fact that they don't pay a billing agent, more in line with normal negotiated rates, I would happily pay the extra 10% to see her. But I have to pay anything over the 'contact price' (which is regularly about 75% of her fee) in addition to my co-insurance. read more

We have been going to Dr. Sumalee for 8 years now and I can't say enough good things about her. She is a NO NONSENCE kind of dds. She is firm yet very caring. If you are an overly sensitive kind of mom that has a teary and sensitive child you may not get the white gloved treatment your looking for. But...... If you want to hear the firm truth about dental care and get great advise for your children plus a rock star cleaning for your kids this is the place. Best of all the office is FABULOUS! Very clean, modern and fun. My girls are super patient so they get a really lengthy visit. Dr. Sumalee knows children and knows how long they can handle a visit and guages their visit for their ability. We pay out of pocket an extra 50.00 per child per cleaning over our insurance coverage and ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT! Other dds would be free but I don't mind given that its been such a great experience having dental care with Dr. Sumalee. You won't be dissapointed! read more
