    Baklava

Stopped for quick tea and coffee. I had a Turkish coffee and my friend had a Turkish Tea with a Pistachio Baklava. With coffee prices rising out there, I thought this was now pretty good value here! I also got a Doner sandwich to go. I'm always on the hunt for a good shawarma/kebab and regretfully, a really good one is hard to find all over the country. The one is pretty decent; I was happily surprised. They use a distinctive pita (not sure if I was told they bake it). This was high quality bread! I was happy to see they were cooking and shaving off the meat on demand, as it should be. Everything seems classically done the right way. I'm glad I found a really good option. Seating is a bit basic with only a few tables and chairs. However, I appreciated the decor with Turkish ceramic mugs (for sale too), Rumi quotes, Istanbul pictures, etc. Looking forward to coming back and trying the Pide!

My husband and I are visiting Pittsburgh for a conference. He picked this place, and I was a little disappointed at first that he didn't pick a "fancy" place for a date night... boy, was I wrong! The food here was incredible! I got one of the doner platters. The doner was a lamb/beef mix with some incredible buttery-tomato sauce on top and a side of delicious rice and yogurt. My husband got a doner sandwich and a side of babaganoush. The pita was so fresh and soft! I also loved the decor here, there were bright fabrics covering the tables and displays with cool pottery inside. Our servers were kind and helpful. Would definitely come back.

Stopped in for a quick coffee and decided to try the Walnut Baklava as well. The Baklava was delicious and the coffee wasn't bad either. The staff was friendly and wish I had enough time in Pittsburgh to come back to try their actual food.

We're in from out of town, and we were thrilled to eat breakfast/lunch here. Everything was made fresh and was delicious! The menemen dish came with homemade bread that was *chef's kiss* -- so pillowy but also crispy on the outside and so tasty. The service was great! Would highly recommend! Also got a latte that was excellent.

Convenience of being next to my hotel. Beautiful day, sat outside. Great service and fresh bread makes the difference.

All I ordered was baklava. It was pretty good. Much sweeter than I was expecting. But still tasty. Service was fast.

Had a nice, quick lunch today. Kebab was nice and juicy, love when they carve to order. Fries were excellent and a generous portion. Big winner was the baklava. The pistachio was among the best I've had,

The ambiance may not be the best, but the decor is cool - especially the beautiful tablecloths. The owner & rest of the staff are very friendly and the food is wonderful. Everyone liked their food and I had a taste of everything. It was delicious. The service was very good until near the end of the meal. The owner is actually from Turkey, so the food is very authentic. It was nice talking to him about his home country, since I was only there for a few days & didn't get to explore as much as I'd have liked. I'd love to return someday. Until then, I'm sure I'll return to Sultan Doner Gyro for good food.

This place has been a staple in me and my boyfriend's Pittsburgh experience for three years now and it's still going strong. The owner is always the kindest to us when visiting and he never forgets his loyal customers. My bf and I never miss out on getting the 4 piece Baklava and it hits every time. If you're in the area, give this place a try!

Chicken kabob! Out of this world fresh and delicious!

Food could have been better. The staff was so nice and told us how everything is homeade but I thought this homeade bread was lacking flavor and the gyro meat was dry. Lots of prints everywhere inside, very busy vibe. Not too many people when we came by for lunch.

Exceptionally good food and very friendly service. Stopped in after the symphony nearby. I got a gyro salad and my son had some lentil soup. Both were excellent! Afterwards I enjoyed a fresh brewed Turkish coffee that was perfect! Great fare here...give them a try!

The space is tiny and unassuming, and the restaurant seems to be a family run operation. The interior is much more nicely kept than you might guess based on the outside of the building. The staff were very friendly, and all of our food was well packaged. I strongly suggest taking a look at the "Persian Cuisine" section of the menu; in many cases, that section is more interesting than the Turkish grill. In terms of food, things ranged from excellent to pretty good. The hummus was good and nicely textured, but not exceptional. The kashke ve bademjan was excellent, particularly when paired with the nicely toasted flatbread it arrived with. The Mediterranean salad and Tabouli salad were both nicely done, with a nice level of lemon acidity and some shredded cheese on the side. The veggie kebap was fine, but generally flat in flavor: it really needed some of the sides and some hot sauce to fill things out. The red lentil soup was simple with a subtle spicing but ultimately deeply flavorful. The ash reshteh (noodle soup with beans and spinach) was generally good but would have benefited from toppings that would have probably been provided in a dine-in environment. All told, this was a nice little establishment with some excellent Mediterranean and Persian style cuisine. They seem to churn out some high quality food from what seems like a very small kitchen. I could imagine eating in or ordering takeout, but note that the interior space is fairly small with a limited capacity.

My husband and I ate one lunch here. Indoor and covered outdoor seating was available. The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

It didn't surprise me when I entered the premises because it had an old school ambiance with chandeliers, white tablecloths, and personalized plates. Given how chilly it was outside, I didn't have any trouble getting a table without a reservation. It was a matter of moments after I ordered when a basket of presumably Turkish bread arrived with a house tapenade made with olives, walnuts, and olive oil (Photo 8). That was delicious and the bread provided a soft, absorbent vessel. For an appetizer, I went with the $11 Grilled Veggies which was a generous plate of zucchini, eggplant, onions, leeks, green & red peppers, carrots, and tomatoes. The flavors were enhanced by a marinade of herbs and balsamic glaze (Photo 9). It stretched into a side dish for my entree, the $35 Grilled Lamb Chops Kebab. Four plump, tender ones came with an order along with a side salad and a scoop of rice (Photo 7). I thought all the food was pretty good with the tapenade and lamb chops the standouts. I got to try their menemen, ayran, and sweet pogaca breakfast pastry. Everything was wonderful across the broad. Truly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The menemen was so flavorful. Tons of tomatoes, some spice, some other vegetables, fresh eggs. And the lovely fresh bread that accompanies it is just out of this world. So soft and perfect. Soaks up that delicious sauce. You must try this. The pogaca, I initially thought might be basic or overpriced, but I was proven wrong. It was so, so good. Another must try. So soft as well. I had the sweet version with honey. The honey is excellent. Even on its own this pastry is amazing, and it's just next level with the honey. Finally, the ayran. It was at this spot that I discovered I love ayran. It is just so perfect. Amazing portion, great price too. Best balance of saltiness and creaminess. So so so good. I can't recommend this place more highly.
