Tried a few items from Sultan Bakery today, Wednesday 31 May 2023, as part of my family sprinkling my grandad's ashes on the Iron Goat Trail (a trail he helped curate when he was alive). Items brought back to the house (northern suburbia of Seattle) included a couple of (two) strawberry scones, a maple bar, a maple bismark, and a German sausage and cheddar crescent. I can't believe I've never reviewed Sultan Bakery! I've been coming here for 20 years, it is a must-stop when traveling through Sultan. Their food is homemade and delicious, they even bake their own bread! Food is huge, so best to bring an appetite (or split an order with someone). I really appreciate that they haven't raised their prices significantly. They also recently cleaned up a bit, I noticed the new chairs and tables. Oh, and if there is a line, don't panic. They are quick and efficient, and friendly to boot. Definitely stop here! read more

Always a great place to catch a break if you're traveling on 2. I had their Boston Creme donut---it was large, and the filling was perfect: not too sweet and just like pudding. Portion are huge and food is good. The building isn't in good repair (there is vegetation growing into the building from the outside.

A convenient roadside stop for a snack on the way between Seattle and Leavenworth. They had a line out the door when we arrived but knew options were limited coming up. We grabbed the premade breakfast burritos and English muffin. It was actually pretty good. Wouldn't go out of my way to return but nice for what we needed! read more

On our way to Wenatchee we took a pit stop at this bakery, and let me tell you my eyes & my tummy were happy. Parking area in front of the bakery is not sufficient. As you walk in you see a number of white boards of their menu, plus 2 separate counters one full of pastries. Service is fast. They have sitting space in and out of the bakery. We had their:- Strawberry scone- It was ok ok. Chocolate chunk cookies- warm it a little and oh so good. Chocolate chip cluster sticks- OMG, this was the star item. Just yum, new for me. Relished it. Overall, if we are ever on this route again will definitely visit. The price and the product quantity they give is good unlike in Seattle high price & less quantity. read more

It probably doesn't get any better than this in a small town. Yummy yummy baked goods, omelettes and scrambles...all at very fair prices. I will say, from the outside you wouldn't think much of this place. But the second you walk in and it's bustling and there's practically a line out the door, you know you're in the right spot. We didn't expect such a variety of pastries and cinnamon rolls, scones and donuts, but my son was very happy. I opted for an omelette made as scramble. It came with hash browns and toast, was enough for two meals for me. We took with us a couple maple bars...that were delicious! Here's a couple tips. There's a lot of confusion when you walk in the door. Mainly because there's no host to sit people (you order and grab a seat) and there are no servers to take your order. Everyone has to wait in line to order, then you either wait if it's take out or find a table where they'll bring your food. Walking in, I never would've known this...which landed me at the back of the line...twice. If the weather is nice, grab a table outside! We didn't even know this was an option until after we dined. It would've been much quieter and more enjoyable had we sat at a table outside. Finally, tip these servers. They're quick and they get it right. They're not really "servers" but they rock at what they do...and all deserve an extra couple bucks. I'll be back next time I'm in town! read more

OMG! This bakery has the lightest and best tasting pastry. I had an oversized almond croissant that was delicious. Light,flakey and the filling was delicious. my companions had the apple pastry, Bismarck, twist and cinnamon cup donuts. I knew it was going to be bad. I had low expectations, but morbid curiosity got the best of me. I ordered the banh mi so you don't have to. It was literally the worst banh mi I've had in my life. The pork tasted like it had been boiled in plain water before being shredded into grey strands. The bottom side of the bread was soaking wet from pork water. The vegetables had no pickling. It was served with a side of potato chips. Potato chips. The cinnamon roll was delicious and the server was just as sweet. Don't order the banh mi though. read more

I was surprised to see that, in addition to all of the great baked goods, they have an extensive menu of sandwiches and full meals. Usually very good food! Staff are always friendly and helpful. Out of all the years I've eaten here, I've only had one problem. I ordered a large order of biscuits and gravy to go, and to my horror, I discovered they replaced my usually fluffy biscuits with English Muffins. Carlos, the cashier, and the young woman helping, Esmeralda, are clearly racists. they are two of the rudest, least helpful people I've ever encountered in a restaurant. Amother employee, Kat, was trying to help and he kept dismissing her like she was trash. not to mention the way he speaks to anyone of a different ethnicity than him. get him and Esmeralda out of there, and it might be a welcoming place, but till then, it's just a toxic cesspool like any other dive. Nice little bakery in Sultan for a quick stop. The cinnamon roll cup was moist and delicious! Service was a little slow and confusing since we weren't sure if we needed to find our own silverware or to be provided. Not a destination restaurant, but far away enough to warrant thinking of making the drive out. With big portions of well prepared, well cooked, breakfasts and lunches, this is a great stop on the way to Stevens Pass. The roast beef dip in a home-made bun comes with an excellent home-made au jus, rustic mashed potatoes (with pieces of red potato skins) and a just-right gravy. The burger was juicy and tasty, topped with thick slices of bacon and crispy fresh lettuce. It gets crowded as this is one of the main highways East to the ski areas or Leavenworth. We've been stopping here once a week for over thirty years during the winter on our way to Stevens, but today was the last time. Over the last ten years the quality has gone downhill, and the women working the counter needs a job that does not involve dealing with the public, unlike the older sweet, polite women that was working there for years. Today we stopped by for a donut and cup of coffee, she placed them in a bag, after we hit the road I reached in the bag grabbed the donut and proceeded to take a bite. As I bit into it something hit the roof of my mouth, it was a 2" long piece of metal with two sharp prongs in the donut. I pulled a u-turn to inform them on how dangerous this situation could've been, and her only reply was "we're human, we make mistakes", not even any sort of apology or refund. Cute little small town vibes and I am here for it! We spent the night in the Treehouse Joint and wanted some lunch and pastries on our way out of town taking highway 2. Looked up the nearest bakery and then we were in line! The aesthetic is super cute. Sweet waitresses helping an older regular couple with all their favorites. White board specials and every table full. They have a spread of bakery items as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner specials. We went through the line and ordered a variety of baked goods as well as their turkey bacon avocado wrap. The baked goods were incredible. We ate them on the side of the road near a winding mountain with breathtaking views and what is better than a fresh baked maple bar than in the back of a hatchback in nature? NOTHINGGGG! The wrap was tasty, the doughnuts were amazing and the caramel apple pie was my absolute favorite and I cannot stop wanting more. I will be back. The little town of Monroe, next to the town of Sultan sure give the best small town goodness a girl could ask for. read more

I am a local customer that will go to this bakery. Not many breakfast places in this valley. I drive 30 minutes from home just to get to Sultan. Only 2 breakfast places in town. So many wonderful things in this bakery and the quality of product they serve is amazing. Definitely the best bang for your buck. You will absolutely enjoy yourself here. Just don't expect the cooks to properly cook crispy golden hash browns or crispy bacon that is not burnt. Again beyond those two things this place is a good heaven.If you like limp bacon they do it well. Blond half cooked hash browns, they are professional at it. When the cooks have food brought back to be fixed, they get angry at the servers and try to blame them for ordering it wrong. I was at the bakery today and the young girl that served me was almost in tears because I told her not to apologize for the cooks doing a bad job and not caring about the customers needs. The bacon was burnt with black edges. After a remake on the bacon it came back to me the same way. I got a refund on my bacon. Went back to my table and called the young server over to me. I gave her $5 and told her that it was personally for her .. not a shared tip. I thanked her for her service and troubles. And told her she should not apologize for a cook that can't do there job. Telling her again she did nothing wrong and she did a great job. I'm tired of going out to eat and having cooks that never went to a culinary art school trying to tell the world of customers that crispy bacon means burnt. And crispy hash browns are drenched in oil golden on the outside but still soft and the center is filled with blond half cooked mush. If you don't care about customer satisfaction you should not be a cook. And you should never get angry at a server for caring about what the customer needs. I have posted a review today because I have worked in restaurants for the last 35+years. The majority of cooks in this valley don't care about customers satisfaction and treat serving staff horrible. I truly believe food has to be taken back to the kitchen... A cook should go to the customers table and personally tell the cook what they are looking for. I went to Bubba's Roadhouse down the street. I expressed my issues and they staff there cared about my needs as a customer. The bacon was crispy, not burnt. The eggs were over medium, no runny white. The Rye toast was warm and butter lightly buttered and properly spread. The hash browns were spread into a thin patty not soaked with oil. And a crispy medium golden brown. I never even mentioned. It turns out the cook at Bubba's is the boyfriend to the young server I had at the Bakery. I gave him a $10 tip. Went back to the bakery and gave her another $5. I told the server I was having a problem at the bakery and she called the cook out. So they were both concerned about my need and desires for my breakfast. I eat in restaurants every day. I came here around 2pm on a friday and there wasn't much left (as expected though). I got their strawberry scone and chocolate danish. Strawberry scone was so delicious but it was more like a biscuit as it was soft rather than flaky. I loved the strawberry jam as it didn't taste artificial. Chocolate danish was just a chocolate croissant but had the texture of a danish. It only had a few pieces of chocolate inside. The interior was very classic and great service! I've come here for some breakfast pastries before hiking, and the first time I came here was over a long weekend so they had run out of most of their pastries so I tried their apple cup and maple Bismarck. Both were fresh and delicious, the donut was really light and fluffy. When I came here again, there was a ton more selection and I got their buttermilk bar, twist, and apple cup. The buttermilk was crispy and the twist for some reason didn't taste as light and fluffy as the Bismarck, but they were still tasty. Pretty sweet though in general which I didn't like too much although I remember the first time being not too sweet. Pastries are about $2 each, plus or minus depending on exactly what. Quite a busy spot with both indoor and outdoor seating, lots of food options, good spot to stop by for hiking! read more

It's not just a bakery. It's basically a country cafe and a bakery. And it does both things well. If you try the bakery goods, most are good. Some are exceptional. Some (donuts) are odd--very doughy. Not bad, just different. As you are facing the counter, the case on your right is stuff made in house. The case on the left is stuff they buy from wholesalers and is not made in house. Not even sure why that left hand case is here. I'd love to see them get rid of it (or make a smaller selection in house). The food is quite good here. Breakfast has a big variety to pick from, and all the dishes are executed well. Dinner adds some good cafe staple entrees, and the bakery does a good job with them. The building is a little rundown and may keep you away. Don't let it. The food is worth the visit. But they really do need to put some capital into the building to make it a little nicer. If you've never stopped here on your Hwy 2 travels, you have missed out. Give it a try. read more

Stopped by hungry after a long hike and was met by cabinet of oversized baked goods with the most interestingly shaped cinnamon rolls I have ever seen. The shape enticed me so I had to try one and was pleasantly surprised! The dough was soft and airy with a nice shell glazed in cinnamon sugar and icing. The roll was topped with some cream cheese frosting in the middle which served as a nice well for dipping as you dig in. Also ordered a full egg salad sandwich and GEEZ these portion sizes are insane. Being a native Texan, I thought everything was bigger in Texas but apparently the portion sizes in Sultan are bigger! Fries were freshly made and crisp and the sandwich was decent. Could have used some more seasoning overall but still satisfying. Definitely recommend swinging by if you're in the area or passing through! read more
