Was visiting Omaha and decided to stop by Sullivan's Bar for a few drinks with friends and I would have to say it's one of the least crazy packed bars at around 8pm on a Saturday night. I guess that's also pretty early for most people from the Midwest to go out from what I was told, but it did start to fill up as the night progressed. While I have many fond memories of it's previous location across the street (now Archetype), the new location is simply way better. Sure, Sulivan's has lost its divey-ness, but swapping it out for a much larger space that is dark and cozy and comfortable was definitely the right move. Head there on Thursdays for some of the best karaoke in town. Head there on a Wednesday afternoon for a couple day drinks and some shuffleboard. Really, head here anytime and have a great time. I guess it would be fitting to make my first review the place I hang out the most. I've been going to Sullivan's for nearly a decade and love both its old location and the new and improved spot. Drink prices are extremely reasonable. $1 PBR drafts on Mondays, a wide variety of $2-4 shots, pretty much every beer is under $5 with cocktails also in the $4-6 range depending on what you get. Plus free popcorn and free munchies during Husker games. Sullivan's also has a lovely patio with a fireplace, the old shuffleboard table from the 49'r, lots of TVs, Golden Tee, karaoke on Thursdays and a Touchtunes jukebox. The crowd varies from chill but welcoming regulars in the afternoons to skewing younger and a little more crazy on late nights and weekends. It's obvious the gang at Sully's takes pride in the place and what they do. They're all a friendly bunch, so whether you're wanting an after-work beer while watching Jeopardy or you want to kick it with the college kids on a Friday night, make your way to Blackstone for this pillar of the community. read more

Even better than my last visit! Came to watch a Husker football game on a Saturday. Lots of TV's, a lovely beer garden with a TV, and free pizza for the game that was actually quite tasty!! The best part of the day was seriously the bartender Eric. He remembered my name the entire day and several times went out of his way to help me carry drinks, open doors and was more than eager to adjust the volume,TV channel or ceiling fans as requested. I'm surprised I'm the first to review Sullivan's! Located in the heart of midtown Omaha, Sullivan's has been a staple in the neighborhood for years. Nothing fancy, nothing special, but always fun. I live in the neighborhood so I've been visiting for years. They always have a special of some sort. Monday night $1 pints are my favorite nights. They have kareoke some nights and other nights there is live music. The crowd is mixed and fun. Drinks are cheap too. So far it's the best juke box I've seen in town. Kelly drove the truck from Sioux City to Omaha. He'd always stuck to the county roads. Kelly's first stop was always at a speak in Nebraska City, then he'd head north towards Omaha. It was a sharp turn off of Douglas Street into the alley. We'd unload the week's stash into the basement storage rooms. It was a maze down there. We'd been raided once before for a card game. The cops took the roulette table and all, but never found the booze. It was a late October night when Kelly first pulled the truck in. We'd unload the week's supply of Canadian whiskey and greased the wheels -- Kelly ran booze straight from Chicago. He and a few others ran a handful of midwest freight routes for the man himself, Al Capone. Demand overran supply. Weeks went on when & we had been the first exclusive night club in town to secretly offer booze. Business was great. We'd run two shows a night. Jazz quartet for the early show, then Roxette and the girls would take the stage for the late show. Things had been going so well. I built a house for Sarah and I on South 16 across from the train station. Our competition was not impressed with our ability to corner the Chicago liqueur market. Not everyone had steady access to booze like we did. At night I would keep a loaded pistol in my car and a loaded shotgun by the door. We saw the Newspaper clips from Chicago. Our delivery boy, Kelly, had moved up in the ranks and earned a new nickname "machine-gun kelly". Murder was now the game. We now laid in wait, guns loaded & cocked waiting for our turn to make the headlines. I love Sullivans. They have a spectacular & fresh assortment of tap beers. Karaoke on Thursday is always awesome. Having spent some time in the previous Sullivan's over the years I knew the vibe of the bar enough to see the differences in the new location across the street. I was never a regular and usually ended up there with friends that enjoy the bar. It was always a neighborhood bar that was lived in and divey, but the nice kind of divey....maybe it was just old school. Anyway the new place is across the street and the area around it is building up with eateries, brew houses and coffee shops. The new Sullivan's has large windows and window seats for people watching, and open seating that is very conversational and when I was there the perfect level of conversation. They have good craft beers on tap and the loyal staff came along for the move. They brought over some of the memorabilia from the old Sullivan's. The bar is able to keep it's history and vibe while appealing to both regulars and new customers coming in. It's risky to move a bar with that kind of history, even across the street, but it looks to be a positive move for both the bar and the neighborhood. read more

Great spot to "turn up" at if you're not feeling like heading to Old Market. The beer is cheap, the bathrooms are nice (women's at least), and the crowd always ranges from 21-50+ year olds. A great "dive bar" to bring your friends, grab a table, devour some popcorn (before realizing you're far too intoxicated to exchange numbers with the hottie you keep flirting with at the bar and need to head down the street to Night Owl). Ah, Sully's. Granted you likely won't end up here unless you live in the neighborhood or know someone who does, and the feeling is that's favored. It's a charming step above dive. I used to live right across the street, and still enjoy stopping by when I'm in the area. The previous poster is correct: cheap drinks, fantastic juke box and the occassional live music act. Expect a very eclectic mix of people. When I went on Sunday, there was an impromptu benefit concert going on. I'd be remiss however, if I did not share my favorite part of this bar: the Ms. Pac Man table! It is my favorite, read ONLY place I sit while there, so that I might play and drink all night long. I just wanted it to be different, unlike anything else. opera, dance, musical theater - they had all been done. I'll never forgive her for what she did. The thought of the Moment when she ruined everything, i worked so hard towards, still haunts me. It was a rehearsed performance and She goes pulls all that work shopped trash out on the opening night. Said she thought it would be funny and i thought i would appreciate the improvisation. A total lack of professionalism on her part. I'm never again working with any of those 2-years of community theater imbeciles. I studied in Kyoto and learned semantics under herman Brownsville, i don't have to put up with this. I've only been here late night, but I find it to be a good place for going out. The drinks are reasonably priced. It's also in a good location, in the middle of blackstone. The ambiance is really casual and he bartenders never seem crabby even when it's crowded. There is shuffle board and there are a lot of tables for sitting and chatting which is nice. read more

The only thing I found strange about my experience was that there was absolutely no music playing anywhere in the bar, possibly because it was a Monday, however it made the atmosphere a little awkward. I came to this bar last night with some friends and the service was good. The only problem I had was with the bouncer. I'm not sure what his name was but he had an accent, black hair, male, bigger guy, black jacket, and blue jeans. Even though we were following the guidelines on masks and showing ID he was being unfairly rude to my friend, and I wanted to give you guys a review because this bouncer should be fired, nobody should feel guilty about drinking from a man who says he has never drank before and he acted like he knew everything and should give advice. I was very upset because my friend got in an argument with the bouncer and she almost got kicked out for simply having different views than the bouncer, he was extremely rude and unprofessional. It's an alright bar but the bouncer is so concerned about not letting minors in that he denies 21+ year old would be customers. Would be much more enjoyable if Sullivan's did not have an incompetent bouncer that threatens to call the cops on every other college student. For those of you who seek a little weird coupled with cheap drinks and conversations comparing John Oliver and Jon Stewart then look no further than Sullivan's Bar on 40th and Farnam. Cozily straddled by construction and high end housing (currently under construction) Sullivan's offers a rare glimpse into what dive bars should be. Aesthetically, Sullivan's too is remodeling and moving across the street to the vacated "Cheaters" lot but those who remember the pre-moving, I say pre-moving because the bar employees are currently moving bits and pieces of the old bar across the street and into storage, where they plan on basically re-creating the old bar. However, those who remember the "old" bar will recall entering through the alley on a hot sunny day and not being able to see anything because the bar was so dark; Thursday night karaoke; the occasional cross-dresser; the bathroom doors that never fully shut; and people huddled around the Golden Tee video game. Fortunately the weirdo's, including me, who choose to patron the bar are what make it so awesome. Everyone from Medical Students to degenerates, pimps, drug addicts, mechanics, and engineers gather there and share PBR and Fireball shots. Patrick the bar tender notably is the best bartender in the city. Half Punk, Half indie, full on badass Patrick remembers your name and drink and always has something intelligent or funny to say. I imagine once the high-end condos and bistros occupy the intersection, paranoid house moms and stuffy nerds will purposely avoid the new bar on their way to organic food land and white wine-topia. They will stop and point the various bar patrons enjoying a smoke out to their children "that's what happens when you don't stay in school" or some other bullshit. Fact of the matter is people are getting soft with their choice of bars and more people need the type that Sullivan's represents: a small tight knit group of skallywags bonding over cold beverage free of the likes of pop-music and pastel pants. read more

I'm always trying to find new hangout spots around town, and Sullivan's was an awesome spot for just that. Myself and the group I was with, was looking for more of a relaxed night, I wasn't looking to bar hop all night. Sullivan's made it easy to "chill out" with some good friends, and not have to worry about overspending at one place. The drinks were reasonably priced and the selection was great as well. You might think it's a dive bar but when you walk inside you are walking into a very clean, plenty of seating and great location for a bar. Cash is a good idea to bring to this bar due to a minimum of $10 is needed to be spent on a credit card. The beers and cocktails are cheap and you won't find better options throughout the area. There are plenty of areas to sit down with your group of friends. Seating is inside and outside, but ordering is all at the bar. I really enjoyed that the televisions didn't take over the walls, they were just big enough. The extra long shuffle board was super awesome to play! Located on the corner in the Blackstone district there is parking on the street but also in the parking lots around the building. Once the party starts rolling at Sullivan's the popcorn starts popping and I can admit, it smells delicious. Don't come too hungry since this is the only food that is served. This used to be a great bar when located across the street, when Patrick was the main bartender.. not so much now. The bartenders there now have a poor attitude, especially the old guy (think he is the manager or something) and the one named Mannie... I watch ed him being rude to several customers. Most times, after 7:00 pm, the service is slow, at best. I would choose to go elsewhere for better service. read more
