I came in for a haircut and asked for a trim, specifically to keep my length. I was okay with adding long layers, but I'm not sure how she interpreted that. It looks like I ended up with two distinct lengths rather than a smooth transition. As you can see in the pictures, there's a 3.5-inch gap between the top layer and the ends. I didn't notice it at the salon because she gave me a blowout, and the ends were curled, but now it's clear this is the most uneven haircut I've ever had. read more

I came here on a recommendation from my friend Annie. I needed a trim...bad! I had Shayla, and she was amazing! She gave me exactly what I wanted (kept the length!!!!) but spiced it up just a little. They got me in and out right away. The atmosphere is sleek and sophisticated, and so clean! I will certainly be back! read more

Since I've moved to Philly, I was looking for a professional hair colorist to get my favorite balayage but I wasn't successful until I found Cara. I had the best experience with her in Philly. She is great and professional. Finally, I have the hair color that I explained and I am very happy with my haircut & balayage. Everyone in the salon is so nice and friendly. Thank you Cara for the great job! read more

Ty is awesome! I've always wanted to do a pixie cut but, was always super nervous. I came in with hair down to my waist and he gave me an awesome and super creative short cut. I've been going here for a year for dye and cut & I even drive back out from the city now that I've moved to get my hair done because of Ty! read more

I always walk away from Tys chair looking like a brand new person and I love it! His color and cuts are so refreshing and give my hair so much life. My hair had grown into a wild mane so I needed a spring pick me up and he did just that. I love coming here because everyone from employees to people coming to get their hair done are so nice and the location is perfect in Manayunk for making a day out of it and getting something to eat or doing some shopping! read more

Good stylist, but please respect my idea of what length and design I want to do with my haircut. My stylist keep telling me what she think is the right way to get my hair trimmed. I felt like I was not paying to be educated what haircut fits me well. read more

Great experience. Ty cut off like 8 inches of my hair! I've had short hair before but not this short. I was totally stunned when I saw myself in the mirror but after a few days I'm totally obsessed with the cut. He did such a great job!! Everyone was really nice and totally made me feel very comfortable in the studio. I'll be back!!! read more

I went to Sulimay's for the first time with the need to fix my hair after a troublesome hairdo by a different salon. I sat with Ashley, and she did a better job than I could have imagined. I had an idea of what I wanted, and she looked at my hair and knew exactly what to do. Walked out of the salon knowing I made the right decision going there! I took a chance with a NEW stylist at a NEW salon, and do not regret it. She's now my new stylist for as long as I live nearby. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I always go to this salon when the person who usually cuts my hair is on vacation. However, after a few great cuts, I think I may officially make the switch! I have seen two different stylists at Sulimay's, and both took great care in listening to what I wanted and discussing it with me. They are all clearly skilled, passionate, and friendly on top of it. I cannot recommend this salon enough. read more

This place is great! I got tired of going to the usual big-chain hair cut places that get you in and out as quickly as they can. The people at Sulimay's are great. They take their time to offer you suggestions, and treat everyone like they are an old friend. No rush jobs here, just special attention to detail, and they won't let you leave until you are 100% satisfied. Great atmosphere inside, relaxed, no loud music or intense lights. In my opinion the BEST place in Manayunk for a haircut. Highly recommended! read more

I recently moved to the Manyunk Roxborough area and needed a new salon so I came here and saw Nancy. She did a cut and color, and it was probably the best my hair has looked and felt in a while! I feel like she actually listen to what I wanted and could tell me what she recommended based on my hair texture and health . My hair is pretty thin and fine, and I have been highlighting my hair for so long that it was pretty damaged, she recommended a few different things and ever since going there my hair has felt so much healthier and also looks so much better! read more

I have been going to Sulimay's for years and just can't say enough wonderful things about the stylists and business as a whole. Everyone is so warm and welcoming and their facility is always clean and put together. I have only seen Ashley as my stylist and she has always gone above and beyond however if I was in a pinch I would trust any member of their team to take care of me! Highly recommend!! read more

I usually go to Sulimay's in Fairmount and LOVE it. But, out of convenience for location, I went here. I am growing out my pixie cut and very clearly stated that I wanted the back and sides trimmed, and for the stylist to thin out the bulk using thinning shears (as they have done in Fairmount). The stylist basically just gave me a full trim and now, I'm set back in terms of growing out my pixie. She took way too much off the top, and left the back too long (the opposite of what I asked for). Furthermore , she never took out the thinning shears. I am very displeased with my hair. read more

Went in for the first time! Had a root touch up, Eyebrow wax , Tint & cut ! Left very pleased.

Been going to Sulimay's for a long time, I first started going in my old neighborhood in Fairmont. After I moved I continued going, however now they are in my neighborhood of Manayunk. I am so happy to have them in the hood!! A rather talented crew of hairdressers, I trust Tara 100% with her ideas for the color and the cut choice for my hairstyle. She loves what she does and always remains current with the latest hair styles. Easy to park, close by, clean and great professional service. I recommend giving them a try!! read more

I made an appointment for balayage and haircut, but when I got home and looked in the mirror, I realized it wasn't at all like I had requested or the pictures I had shown my stylist. I called back asking for someone to fix the color and they were able to fit me in, but I was still charged a fee for this visit. I had expected that this adjustment service would not cost me and I would just tip the stylist well, so when her next male client arrived before she had finished my hair and she asked me to give him the chair, I had no problem waiting and having someone else finish her work. However, I was very frustrated when, on my way out, I was told that I would have to pay a charge that didn't even have an explanation on my receipt. When I wrote a complaint, someone from the salon replied that the charge "went towards the bowls of color that were used to lighten your hair. It was a unique situation because you liked your hair when you originally had it done. Then a week later you decided you wanted it lighter. It's my understanding that you were happy when you left with the first service correct?" This response sounded unnecessarily rude and made it clear that I would never ever step foot in this salon again and would deter local friends and family from going. I left one last response explaining, "When I looked in the mirror, I was confused about why there was no blonde in my balayage and it looked nothing like the pictures I had shown the stylist. I decided to give it a few days to see if the color changed when I washed and styled it myself, but since it still just looked plain brown, I called to ask for it to be colored correctly. At my previous salon, I was always told that if I needed a color adjustment due to it not matching what I asked for especially with pictures, they would not charge me." Months later I noticed I had an old voicemail from my stylist trying to explain what happened and offering a free blowout, but for me the damage was already done. I hope this review saves someone from an experience like mine and/or prevents the salon staff from treating someone else like they treated me. read more

This place is amazing. I love, love, love my hair. I had so many complements. I definitely recommend them. Thank you so much Ty.

I've only ever trusted two people with my hair and when they both moved, and then so did I, somehow 5+ years passed that I did not have my hair done, not even a trim. With the help of receptionist Steffany, I booked an appointment for a cut and color with Ty. I reviewed his Instagram (@mac_daddybeauty) and it became instantly clear he's a blonde / balayage god. I trusted the results would be beautiful, but I was not prepared for how utterly stunning Ty's creation was. When he finally turned my chair around, he was concerned at my initial response--silence. Stunned silence. I admit, I cried. He is the best of the best. I've never in my life had more beautiful hair and I cannot sing his praises enough. For blondes, especially, Ty is the most unquestionably talented stylist. THANK YOU, Ty! read more

Long overdue for a haircut and was unsure where to go, so just on the fly called to make an appointment here. My stylist Melissa was very nice and on time, I got a wonderful cold drink and off we went. I was unsure of what I wanted, just told her to do something. Insert smile. She ended up cutting off a fair amount of my hair, which was very much needed and gave me a style that I had never had. Little above shoulder with a flip at the ends. It is very stylish and has held up now weeks after. I highly recommend this place! It was a very friendly salon as well, long time clients come here and we joked and had fun as we had our services. Top notch all around! read more

I've been coming here to see Ashley for a while now and I couldn't be happier. I get so many compliments on my hair and my color that I don't think I'll ever leave. Since working with Ashley, I've run into childhood friends who comment that "even your hair looks the same". As a woman in her 40s with lots of (hidden) grays, this is a high compliment! read more

Never go to this "salon". Fraudulent, rude and dishonest are the first words that come to mind. I told the "stylist" before I left that I would need to come back to have her fix my hair. The color was off and the "highlights" didn't go to my scalp. She even asked, "do you want them to go to the scalp"? Weird question, um, of course I do! I paid, was polite, tipped after the stylist said it would be no problem to fix it the following week. She even said, "love with it for a few days and if you don't like it come back and I'll fix it." Well, I left looking like the roots hadn't been touched at all and the rest of my hair was ashy/almost gray. I reached out by phone the next day to schedule an appointment, no response. I called again on Tuesday, no response. I called again and again and there was no call back from the stylist or the manager. I reached out via Instagram, no response. I was trying to follow their policy to have the color repaired within one week. They avoided responding so when I got back from vacation I reached out to the owner. She immediately started to blame me. She sent me a screenshot of two texts sent to a number I expressly told them on the day of my appointment not to text. (No text was received on my end). Then she blamed me for being 30 minutes late. I was 15 minutes late and offered to rebook the appointment but was told it wasn't a problem and then they added services adding time to my appointment. These added services added to the cost and yet there was no mention of that when I was simply told they were being applied. The owner then blamed me for not booking a new appointment electronically and that they traditionally don't use email, phone or social media to communicate with customers. Um, what? This is all not to mention that when I called for the seventh time I was given the wrong email address to contact, on purpose. They are evasive, unprofessional and downright thieves. They then committed actual fraud when I disputed my claim and provided fabricated documents to the bank. See you in court! read more

Ashley is fantastic! There is no better place in Philly. Where most places, especially these new barber shops filled with douchy bearded hipsters, are uptight and shitty, this place is laid back and you can actually have a 2 way conversation with the stylist. read more

Amazing people with talent! Highly recommend for any age, hair type or gender! I have been going to them since 2007! Never had a bad anything, they are always happy to see you (they always remember you), catch up and most important a great hair cut and style! My son has had three haircuts already and he is 21 months old. Amazing patience and no matter how unsteady it has always looked great! There is not a bad stylist but from experience I love Tara and Madeline! Deb will be missed at the new location which is a sweet, roomy and well decorated salon. Great down to earth talented people, always a pleasure to visit! read more

Sulimay's on Main is my new favorite salon! The girls that work there are so nice. They never rush you and always take their time. My boyfriend and I both get our hair cut there now. All three times he's gotten his hair cut here, they scissor cut his hair. They really pay attention to detail. His hair takes as long to cut as mine does, but he's always very happy with the way it looks so it's worth the time. I'm always hesitant to try a new salon because my hair is on the shorter side now so there isn't a margin for error. After taking my boyfriend here for a cut, I met one of the salon owner's, Alexis, who has a similar cut to mine. After talking to her for a bit, I knew she got it. When I went in for my hair cut, she really listened to what I wanted and what I definitely didn't want. She did exactly what I asked for, which is hard to come by these days. They double shampooed my hair, which was a nice treat. Alexis cut my hair dry, which I had never experienced before, but after seeing how great my hair came out, feel like I'm never gonna be able to have it done any other way. Right now they have a promotion that if you check in on Facebook, you get 10% off and if you check in on Facebook and post a selfie, you get 15% off! I'm happy to promote their good service and definitely feel the customer appreciation. Thanks for making me look beautiful and giving me the cut I wanted!! read more

Good men's cut on Main Street. Although, my stylist kept noting to me what lengths she was using to cut so 'I could let my next stylist know.' It felt like my business wasn't welcomed. read more

I had been going to Tara at Sulimay's in Fairmount and I am thrilled that they opened up in Manayunk. Tara, the owner is fabulous. She's also very easy to talk to and makes you feel right at home. I was walking on Main Street and happened to see Sulimay's Studio on Main. I decided to take a chance and get a haircut, and it paid off!! It was such a great atmosphere and Ashley did an amazing job giving me the change in hairstyle that I desired. She even took the time to style my hair at the end. They made me feel as if I had been coming to the studio for years. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who is looking for a change. You won't regret it! read more
