Cut, color, and deep conditioning treatment. Couldn't be happier!
    Brittany M.

Absolutely in love with the cut, color, and deep conditioning treatment I got done today. First of all the service was top notch, they were able to make me an apt for just a half an hour away from when I called, very accommodating. And my stylist Brittany was amazing, so friendly and very knowledgable. Love this place and recommend asking for Brittany next time you visit!

    Fishy??

I have not updated my yelp profile since I posted my first review. When I logged in I noticed I had a message from "Sarah C." Ironically enough the message was signed by Nanci.. The salon Owner. After looking further into Sarah c's profile, I noticed this person (nanci) made a 5 star review of glam using this identity. Fishy business going on.. I've since been happier at a salon outside the city.

Spring Evening 2015 Along Ridge Avenue, Showing Salon Glam, Cafe Roma Bakery and Lennies Hoagies.
    Christopher C.

Moving to a new area requires a lot of changes and one of the most challenging can be finding a hair stylist. In my neighborhood of Roxborough, and particularly along the business corridor on Ridge Avenue, clients have many choices (I am guessing at least 6 or more in under a mile). While strolling the avenue one day after getting a bakery treat next door at Cafe Roma Bakery, I casually stopped in the Salon Glam. I had reconnected with an old friend who cut hair but unfortunately he worked at a high-end salon and the price tag for a haircut was twice what I was use to paying. I'm pretty sure it was the manager-owner who greeted me, advised of pricing for haircuts (and coloring too) and gave me the salon business card. I only stopped by to inquire and already I felt welcome. When it came time for my next cut, I called Salon Glam and schedule for both a cut and color. I was scheduled with April and on arrival, the same manager recognized me from several weeks prior making me feel extra welcome. There was no delay for my appointment time. April took time to learn about my needs for both styling and color. This was one of the best first-time experiences ever at a new salon. I am extremely happy with the entire process - cut and color. She was allowed to take the proper amount of time to cut my hair and do the coloring service without ever feeling rushed. The price was excellent (just $18 for a men's cut and shampoo, plus the color of course). As an added bonus, while waiting for the color treatment, the Salon offers complimentary beverages including coffee and more - so you can really feel like your indulging yourself. I will be back and would certainly recommend you give Salon Glam a try - if you're nervous about trying a new place, just ask for April. June Update - I've already been back, just a few days ago and this time for a regular haircut again with April. And once again I am very happy with the cut and style! And there was no waiting with my scheduled appointment!

Jackie ruined his hair by dying it brown, instead of salt and pepper as requested to match his mustache. Owner admitted no foul.

Worst hair salon and I'd give them a negative star rating if possible. I'm posting a profile picture here of him with his beard and mustache and the brown hair, which was supposed to be salt and pepper like his mustache. If anyone would like to see more horrific pictures, please email me at leefanelli73 at Gmail or contact me here. The last thing my boyfriend wanted to be was an experiment - and that is exactly what he was. Some people should never color hair and only cut it. We had to consult a real color specialists to figure out what she did wrong and try to correct it the best we could. My boyfriend and I were there yesterday to have his white hair dyed to salt and pepper, like his mustache. We were very clear about wanting salt & pepper, by putting some dark color back into his hair and matching his mustache, which we pointed out was still salt and pepper, with white and grey and very dark brown. The stylist, Jackie, dyed it to a medium brown using a 5N permanent color. She combed it through his entire head. He ended up with a muddy, medium brown, fully dyed hair color. The real professional we consulted with afterwards stated this was not only the wrong shade to achieve salt and pepper, but also the wrong method, since she didn't protect any of his hair. Not to mention, she left him with a large patch of greyish/white hair in the back of his head the size of a baseball and all the underlying 1/2" roots were mostly grey/white as well below the brown. They stated it couldn't be corrected and wouldn't give me the money back. Didn't apologize or admit to destroying his hair color. And the owner looked directly at the back of his dried hair yesterday after the horrible dye job and didn't say a word to at least correct the patch in the back and and actually said it looked good. She was also completely rude and ignorant when trying to get the money back. It's not about the money all together - you don't ruin someone's hair and then not even apologize and act ignorant as if you some how came close to what was requested in great detail. I'll be filing in small claims court, as well with the Better Business Bureau and repeating this review all over the internet to assist other people in avoiding this nightmare place - or at least the the owner, her daughter and Jackie. All ignorant and apparently need to go back to school to learn what "salt and pepper" means because it doesn't mean medium, muddy brown.

Thanks April my hair looks great!!!

First off, the place feels big. Has nice calming music playing in the background so it's a pleasant experience visiting and even sitting in the chair for some time. The wash was about the same length of time as a wash from other places here in Chinatown, but somehow it was significantly more enjoyable. The people here know what they're doing, and my scalp feels much better than it did before, and I didn't even know if was feeling anything before. Cut was ~30 minutes, and $28 + tip. Overall, it's on the pricier end of what I've experienced so far in Chinatown, although not by much. However, the quality of the cut was much better than others. In other places, it feels a bit more rushed or cursory, but I felt like I was getting focused attention on my cut. He spent a lot of it actually in touch up and layering, which was good attention to detail. Honestly one of the best cuts I've gotten in Chinatown. Definitely beats out in quality over other mainstays like Kevin's, but at a slightly higher price point.

I went to this hair salon in university city for a trim, and I felt that the stylist was knowledgeable about curly/wavy coarse hair. I was a little worried about going to a salon in China town because often the hair type that they see often is smoother / softer which I don't have. But my hair is looking a lot healthier, and they didn't take off too much of my length! The only issue I had was that it took a little longer than I would have liked and I was being switched between two people repeatedly. I've experienced having a different person the was my hair, another to cut my hair, and another to style my hair but I had 2 different people style my hair, probably because it started to get crowded. I wish the entire visit was only an hour but it was closer to 2.5 hours, and other people in the salon were beginning to complain about the wait. My friend also got his hair cut and said he liked the cut, but he was done in about 45 minutes, where usually his cuts take about 30 minutes, then he had to wait for me to be done as well. I will definitely be going back here but I'll be sure to go on a day that I know I have more time. My hair feels super healthy and nicely cut.

She smiled and agreed, and started cutting. In no time at all, she had cut the hair on one side of my head above my ear, which was the opposite of what I asked for, as I have a deformed right ear from decades of combat sports competition, and I wanted it concealed. As she had already ruined my hair on one side, I bit my tongue as she made the other side match it. I was absolutely furious, but what can a stylist do once they've taken too much off? Absolutely nothing. Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" [Edit, I called the place and she offered me a refund, but this doesn't undo the damage she did to my personal appearance. I'll take the refund, but this review stands.] I grew the sides of my hair longer specifically to hide that ear, and the stylist decided that she knew better than me where my haircut was concerned, and forced her personal preferences onto my head. That stylist is very fortunate that I have superior control over my temper, because she has left me feeling disfigured with the haircut she gave me, and now that I'm home and trying to style this mess, I see that she couldn't even manage to trim my bangs straight, and the hair on one side is not symmetrical with the hair on the other side. With the mess she left me with, with my deformed ear exposed, I might just shave my head instead of putting up with this terrible thing she did to my head. I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. Attached to this review, you'll see two photos detailing how she couldn't even manage to cut my hair evenly. I could have gotten a better cut from a landscaper with a weed-whacker. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.

I came in on a Monday around lunch time and they weren't busy at all. Since it was our first time there, we didn't have a stylist in mind. They sat us down quickly and David was the one that helped my husband with his haircut. He is very knowledgeable about Asian hair types as he trained in Tokyo for 6 years. If you show him a photo, he will be sure to match the style you requested through the photo. He will constantly show you what the back looks like through a mirror to ensure that you're satisfied with the results. David is really a perfectionist and he even told me that he's always open to criticism, so if you're unhappy with something, just communicate with him and he will be sure to make it right. There might be a language barrier if you don't speak Chinese but I think a translation app would work just fine. My husband got a Korean style two block haircut and I have to admit it's one of the best haircuts that he has ever gotten! The longer layers in the back blended seamlessly with the shorter portion on the back of his head. My husband is traumatized from getting haircuts because oftentimes you pay a lot for a haircut that you don't even end up liking, but he's glad that he finally found a spot that he will be returning to. For wash and haircut, the price is $28, but they were running a promotion at the time so it ended up costing $23.
