I got a detachable sew in which is similar to a u part wig but she customizes it completely to my head. I had my consultation before hand she made the piece .. Two days later I came back and it only too her 20 minutes to sew it in. My head doesn't hurt.. My braids aren't too tight and I defiantly know my hair will grow which is why I got this as a protective style. I only straighten my hair 4-5 times a year but she's the best. She's new to the hair game but I'm going back! Plus there is a great Groupon deal going on right now! Almost forgot.. The girl who braided my hair was so nice!!! She gave my a nice wash, told me about everything she was using before hand and did not hurt me with the braiding. I was honestly scared for that since I never get weaves. I informed Lorraine of this and how I needed to go straight thru with my maintenance and she not only knocked out my maintenance in 25 minutes, she also styled it! I was able to get back to PHL to catch my flight. I really appreciated it because she had other returning clients and I was just a walk-in. So I only visit this shop once a year to get my natural hair straightened and colored. I made my usual online appointment and showed up on my scheduled day. I thought everything was going to be business as usual but....... I arrived at the shop at 1:30 and once I entered there were two employees (the owner was not there) who both looked at me as if I messed up by walking into the shop. I didn't get a hello or welcome to the shop at all, instead I got the vibe that they were clearly ready to go home, and I just happened to show up on an appointment that they confirmed a day earlier but happened to forgot. Yup they forgot about it, the employee that was once friendly was not so friendly, she approached me with negative energy, went to the front desk, asked if I had an appointment. She then gives me an awkward stare as she looks into the computer. She then ask me for my last name and I tell her, which ignites another short awkward pause. The employee then stares at my hair and asked do you normally straightened your hair, all while giving me a judgemental vibe. The employee then walks over to the other girl and they converse. I then ask them if it's a bad day and she says well " I can either straightened your hair or color but I can't do both so which one do you want" So we go back and forth on if my appointment is valid, I even let her listen to my saved voicemail message of them confirming my appointment. I let her know that I was disappointed by their professionalism. Overall I understand that things happen or may come up, I get that. I just felt like this miscommunication or discrepancy could've been resolved in a more civilized, professional and diplomatic manner. I did my research and discovered Aronda on Instagram. Her profile is filled with pictures and videos of beautiful, neat and detailed hairstyles ranging from braids, twists and color. As a result, I felt pretty confident in making an appointment but I have been fooled before. Since Aronda works by appointment only, I made my appointment in August for a November appointment. Yes, its quite a long period but seeming I was only available on weekends, it was the earliest weekend available as she was completed booked. Fast forward to my appointment at 9 am in November. Aronda ran a little late, about 15 mins, since she had to pick up my hair extensions but called to notify me of the late arrival. Professionalism I appreciated! Once inside the shop, she went to straight to work. First, Aronda shampooed my hair, blow dried it out and preceded to twist my hair. I requested the Thin Midi Marley Twists and they turned fabulous! I put a lot TLC into my hair and want a hair stylist to do the same. Aronda made sure not to place too much tension on my scalp, especially around the edge of my hairline. Plus, I was done before 1:30 pm and happy it did not take up my entire day. I will have no problems returning to Aronda for future braiding appointments. I put my hair in buns and ponytails (tight and messy) . I have worn my hair both straight and curly as well. I have never had to hide or pin down any of the tracks in my hair. I made an appointment in advance, new customer. When I arrived it took a few minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that I was there (even though the space is open concept, it's pretty obvious when someone enters and it wasn't busy). Once I was acknowledged, I let them know that I had made an appointment ahead of time. However, I still ended up waiting nearly an hour to be seated and serviced. 2. I had a lace wig installation. The knots needed to be bleached and washed which was done in the salon. However when it came time to install there was no effort made to blow the hair out (I could hear the hair sizzling all throughout as the stylist skipped that step and went straight to flat iron -- after mentioning that she would blow it out once it came out of the dryer and the lace was dry). Once installed and flat ironed, the ends were not trimmed and the hairline of the wig was basically in the middle of my forehead (despite me providing feedback that I thought it was way too far down from my natural hairline, she insisted on keeping it as is). The most unnatural installation ever. But at this point I had already been there for hours and was ready to go... 3. After paying the $150, I ended up actually going home (I had been there for excess of 3 hours at that point, 1 of which was spent waiting to be serviced although I had an appointment) and fixing it myself (trimmed the ends, blew it out, took more than 5 minutes to properly flat iron the unit, and removed and reinstalled it to reflect a more natural hairline). The reason why I went to the salon in the first place was to receive a professional service, and not have to spend the time doing the install myself. The end result (before I fixed it to make it at least presentable) was nothing like the pictures you see on Instagram. Highly disappointed. It's not even been a week and I'm already onto the next hairstyle (this is coming out) Although the end result was not what I expected, I will reiterate that the stylist was extremely nice, it's not a personal knock on her or anyone else in the salon. But I think that more care should be taken to ensure a quality outcome.
