Don't get me wrong, it is very authentic tasting and the waiters/waitresses don't speak Japanese but seem to understand very well, for example when I asked for the shichi-mi. But they seem to prefer to reply in English. The food is very good and cheap for a Japanese style restaurant, but it is not the kind of place I would take people for "settai" or for business dinners. I would definitely recommend it to anybody who wanted to try Japsnese style food that is NOT sushi or sashimi. I have not tried their fish, so I cannot comment on that.

This place has been my primary neighborhood sushi spot for both dropping in and delivery since I…read morediscovered it when we first moved into the area, before we were even in this apartment. It's a cute little spot with a small sushi bar, seating for maybe eight people. Mostly it's takeout and delivery. I'm also fond of it because although the selection is somewhat limited, the quality is always excellent, and the pricing isn't near as steep as others (like the above). Here, five pieces each of nigiri salmon and sole, plus a ten-piece creative prawn, avocado, tamago (egg) roll, and it came in at a grand total of 410 pesos (the nigiri alone, think about it, ten piece in total with rice, versus the 10 pieces above of sashimi without, came in at about 60% of the price). My one disappointment in the place is that they used to offer a moriawase of both sushi and sashimi - a mixed selection, rather than having to order five pieces of each kind - but apparently it's too much work to slice one piece each of five different fish rather than all the same one....

It wouldn't t have been such a bad experience if the service was better, but the service was also HORRIBLE. I know, I know: the lack of fresh seafood doesn't make sense considering the proximity to a vast ocean that we call the Atlantic. Hm. Bistro Tokyo turns that fact on it's head and shows that restos really can serve fantastic quality fish if they want to. We ordered a limited combo that included raw and cooked salmon. Portions are huge and we (male + female) ate happily for $450 including two waters and no appetizers. Which is my next point: you'll pay more than many sushi meals, but prices won't hurt too, too badly. Definitely considering going with a group so as to order more variety -- there are so many great looking non-sushi dishes too! To be continued...
