tl;dr: don't get the sushi.
The locale is hidden in a little hallway with no obvious signs, so pay close attention to the address as you're walking along Av. Indepencia. It'll take some detective work beyond Google Maps.
Staff tries to be helpful, and some speak a little English, but it's not the easiest experience.
The hot sake was nice, smooth, and strong. The helado de azuka (red bean ice cream) was not the real deal, it was mostly vanilla with some stripes of red bean paste, but was still satisfying.
HOWEVER, I had the "Nigiri Especial" and it was the worst nigiri I've ever had. I've eaten gas station sushi that was better (literally, I'd take any Japanese conbini platter over this).
Not foul, but completely flavorless, and the rice was stale. The fish was at least fresh, I suppose, and for AR$270 (less than US$10) I don't feel like I necessarily wasted my money.
And the miso soup.
Broth was fine. But only two little pieces of tofu. And they were stale! How do you have something soaking in broth and still be stale? That's just impressive.
I can't speak to anything else on their menu, and as other reviewers have said it was popular with local Asian residents, so take that for what it is.
They do accept credit cards, which is nice.
So if you happen to be in San Telmo, and craving Japanese food, sure. But don't make a special trip (like I did). read more
