LOCATION: Located in Frankenmuth, MI within the Frankenmuth River Place Shops. It is in the corner that is closest to the river with the boat. STORE: Shop is super cute (lots of pink), HUGE selection of cupcakes to choose from. Various items for sale (aprons, shirts, collectibles, etc), they also teach classes (check their Facebook page or website for listings), Offer a wide variety of treats such as: Chocolate covered bacon, macrons, gelato (when they have it, might be seasonal), cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered marshmallows & so much more! Shop was clean and pleasant to the eye. CUPCAKE TASTE & TEXTURE: The crumb (cake) is light with a very mild flavor. Frosting was light in flavor, not overly sweet & not oily, good ratio of cake to frosting. They are good cupcakes. As far as the moisture content of the cupcakes, I find that it is hit or miss, sometimes the cake is moist, but other times they are are dry (like my most recent visit). Flavors are not punching you in the face but it's a decent cupcake, most of the flavor is carried in the frosting not the cake. CUPCAKE SIZE: Jumbo (these are jumbo cupcakes not normal sized, so keep that in mind with the price) CUPCAKE PRICE: $12.00 for 4 cupcakes (which is a great price for this size, most normal size cupcakes would be that much!), I also LOVE that there are no price scales, so you can choose what ever flavor (no matter if they are filled or not) and pay the same price (unlike most other cupcake places I have been to). OTHER TREATS TASTE: Gelato - is very creamy, with really great flavor, I have not been disappointed with her gelato but the price is a bit steep for me. Chocolate covered bacon- we are not a fan, just don't like the eating cold bacon with chocolate on it. COOL THINGS TO NOTE: This bakery won Season 7 of the tv show Cupcake Wars (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Episode). Found this shop on my first trip to Frankenmuth. Very neat little shop - cute cupcake shaped pillows, baking supplies, various sweets. We got the Peanut Butter cupcake, Apple Strudel, Cherry Cheesecake Cupcake, and Turtle Cupcake. Apple Strudel was absolutely wonderful. Moist, just enough cinnamon and spices, not too much of the sweet topping. My favorite of the four we got Turtle Cupcake was great. Moist, not too rich but definitely chocolatey, frosting wasn't sickly sweet - kind of fudge like flavor to it. Loved it. Peanut Butter Cupcake was very good but not quite as moist as the others, almost dry. Frosting, again, wasn't sickly sweet and not over the top with the peanut butter. Would get again. Cherry Cheesecake Cupcake was awesome. Not dry at all. Frosting had a strong cream cheese flavor - honestly, took me by surprise just how strong that flavor came through - BUT it's a cheesecake cupcake, what do you expect? In the end, I liked it. I've actually never been in the store, but tried a few flavors at a wedding that was catered by Sugar High. After my extensive sampling, I was particularly impressed with the Bavarian Cream -- really moist cake, chocolate frosting on top and a sweet cream-filled center. Also, chocolate covered bacon. Yep, they got it. I'm a huge sea-salt on my chocolate girl, this seems like the logical next step.... Will definitely stop by the shop on my next trip to Frankenmuth! read more

Wanted to check this place out after seeing they won Cupcake Wars and was not disappointed. I tried their Butterbeer and German Chocolate cupcakes, both of which were amazing. The Butterbeer Cupcake immediately transported me back to the Butterbeer I had at Diagon Alley in Universal Studios--such a delight! This place seems very clean and well decorated. The cupcakes look amazing but are pretty expensive for a cupcake. So I chose to get for cake pops and 10 dipped fortune cookies. The dipped fortune cookies were very yummy. The cake balls well let's just say after my first bite and seeing a piece a hair dangling out of the middle of the cake I was about to throw up. Not to mention it was the nastiest thing I had ever tasted and spit out. My son who was in another vehicle with his father apparently didn't like his either and threw it in the garbage. I called the place because I was on my way home which was over an hour away and told them of the situation. He was very apologetic but also made the statement and I quote, "We tried to do our best, we do, but sometimes we missed some." really? That comment upset me. So I do not recommend this place, I will not come back to this place. He said he's going to send me a check in the mail and give me all my money back. We shall see. But because of his apology and the fact that he said he's going to send me my money back I gave it to instead of a one. read more

Wow...what a fabulous place! It was bright and clean and just cute. And who doesn't love cupcakes!! We were there on a cold night in the middle of the week, so there was nobody else in there. The girl working the counter answered all of our questions and we finally settled on a 4 pack. They won Cupcake Wars and the winning cupcakes were part of the selection. I settled on the Cuatro Leche - and it was amazing (one of the winners). The other one I tasted was the maple bacon, I wasn't a fan but that's just personal preference more than anything. I will say the cupcakes were very moist and we were there just before closing. Will definitely add this to my rotation of places to visit the next time I'm in Frankenmuth! Some have commented about the price, but really, you pay $5+ for a dessert at any given restaurant and most of them aren't as filling or as tasty as one of these cupcakes! read more

The cupcakes are literally on steroids with every possible crazy tasty flavor possibly imaginable worth trying! There absolutely terrific! Not usually a fan of sweets but their cupcakes were really good! First thing I notice in the bakery and on the pastries is that everything is so colorful! You have a WIDE range of pastries and flavors to pick from. It can be stressful trying to pick out the ideal cupcakes to try and along with how many. We tried the maple bacon cupcake and some other cupcake (don't remember). I can really appreciate the nice thick, flavorful bacon! The frosting is not overwhelmingly sweet! The filling on the other cupcake was just so, so good. Must try their cupcakes!!! When you're there, all you do is eat with your eyes. Wow! Fantastic confectionery! Sweets for both cats and dogs and their masters! The cupcakes, as you have probably guessed, are out of this world --- we purchased the black forest cake, samoa, quatro leches, and coconut; just the perfect moisture level. I had a HORRIBLE experienc. I wanted to book them for my wedding and they don't take appointments to discuss what you want. I went up there and the girl I was talking to didn't know much information, rudely interrupted me and talked over me multiple times and then I found out the only way to discuss details with the baker and designer I had to do it only through email! from start to finish they were extremely unprofessional!!!! it's a shame because they have good cupcakes but I don't think I'll ever go back there. I don't want to support a business that is going to treat me like I'm just a bother number or customer. read more

Holy crap! Best cupcakes ever! They are so pretty and it was so hard to decide but I had to make a decision. I chose the toxic kiwi-wow! It tasted natural and sweet. The salted caramel, wow! The strawberry lemonade-geez Louise! And the best-the Charlie Brown! They were all good but the CB was just, wow! Chocolatey rich goodness with the creme in the middle, heaven! I can't say that enough, just fantastic! The best part is that they taste natural, no artificial ingredients (at least it didn't taste that way). My bestie got a vegan and thought it was divine! Like everything in Frankenmuth, the cupcakes are supersized. I tried the tres leches, which was disappointing in everything except pure sugar delivery. Cake was plain, vanilla-y and dry, not moist in the EXTREME like you'd expect from tres leches. Frosting tasted like grocery store bakery frosting, which I find to be pretty gross. My boyfriend got a red velvet, which is my cupcake metric for every new bakery. Cake was a little dry, but the cream cheese frosting wasn't horrible. They also had gelato, cookies and other desserts, which we didn't try. Cute memorabilia. No seating inside. Next time I'd save my sugar fix for any of the other candy shoppes in town. read more

They are always so sweet and willing to help! We got 4 cupcakes and all of them were delicious! This is my favorite place to get cupcakes even though I live an hour away! I would definitely recommend the banana pudding, blueberry pancake, banana split, lemon-like, and the caramel apple. So far those are my favorites! read more

We bought four jumbo sized cupcakes. One of which was the maple bacon...wasn't impressed. The bacon tasted either cheap or really really old. Had an "off" taste to it. We tried four cupcakes all of which were decent to good cupcake.. but none left me amazed. 3rd stop on my Cupcake Wars "tour." This place is worth a stop if you are in the area for sure. Tried a variety of cupcakes and at 4 dollars a pop, it's worth it if you are in the mood for cupcakes or into Food TV places. The icing is not too sweet and the cake portions are soft, fresh, fluffy, and tasty. The only thing I'd say that this place does not push the envelope as far as having more cupcakes with fillings or using a variety of flavors in the cake portions. That said, the standouts... Toxic Green Lime/Lemon (was on the show and does have a filling) Samoas (the frosting was amazing and tasted dead like the cookie) Mint Choc Chip (bright and minty) Tres Leche (another one on the show and this had a the tastiest icing ever) They were sold out of the bacon cupcake but they had strips of bacon...1 with chocolate, the other with cinnamon. Both were good but the cinnamon version was probably the best...reminded me of when bacon gets covered by syrup on a a breakfast plate of pancakes but not quite as good. I had the maple bacon cupcake- it was a maple cupcake with a maple frosting topped with what looked like a combination of chocolate cover bacon, cinnamon sugar bacon and regular bacon pieces. The cupcake tasted fresh and light. They had chocolate covered bacon, which I had to try for the novelty of it- it was very good! A perfect combination of sweet and salty. A year after my last trip, I made another visit here for my annual birthday trip to Frankenmuth. I tried the orange creamsicle cupcake again and the whiteout cupcake. The orange creamsicle cupcake was more moist this time. The frosting wasn't dry this time, the cake itself still had a mild flavor, but that wasn't a bad thing. In fact, I enjoyed the mildness this time. The whiteout cupcake was easily the better of the two, although they were both pretty good. The cupcake itself was super moist, the frosting was creamy and light. This one was my favorite cupcake. The store atmosphere is still nice, although it is now decorated with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because of the episode of Cupcake Wars they won. Overall, my experience was a ton better than last time. :) read more

The gem of River Place. First off, this place won Cupcake Wars once and I can see why. This was our second trip here and both times were were delighted in what we bought. The first thing I tried was the chocolate dipped rice crispy treat. If I am ever on death row and they give me my choice of a last meal, this would be included. It was just, really good. Simple, delicious, and enjoyable. I also tried some of the chocolate chip cookies. Hands down, some of the best i've ever had. Soft, chewy, and full of chocolately goodness. The german chocolate cookies were also extremely good. Then came the cake pops. In our opinions, way better than the ones at Starbucks. They were moist, tasty, and a nice size. Some other interests - the chocolate bacon was good and the cupcakes looked good, but I didn't get any on the latest trip for the simple reason that I had gotten so many other things. O.m.g. I thought I had found cupcake heaven in Carlsbad CA. While that shop still reigns in my heart, I have found its queen in Sugarhigh Bakery. I'm a cupcake junkie. If Heaven were a place we could build ourselves, my heaven would be cupcakes from this shop. We ordered 4 cakes/$12. This is a great price point! The cupcakes are huge! Of course we ordered 2 cupcake wars winners and 2 others. Quatro Leches: A-mazing! Moist, not too sweet, mmmmmmm Salted Caramel: again, soft and moist cake (this matters, folks!), delicious frosting! Sprinkle cupcake: my 4 year old wouldn't put it down, but he couldn't finish it. I took care of that for him. Haha. Nothing particularly special about the cupcake, but it was still delicious. Lime cupcake: this was the only so-so one, but my son loves anything lemon-Limey. He enjoyed it! The store is adorable and in a fantastic location. The cupcakes at Sugarhigh Bakery are incredible. I had the vegan vanilla cupcake, and it was heavenly. It was rich, moist, and light. I also had a bite of my mom's cuatro leche cupcake, which is far from vegan. I know. It was the best cupcake I have ever had, and I have had a lot of cupcakes. It was light, creamy, and not overly sweet. The service was also great. There were quite a few people in there, but they moved people through quickly. While you were waiting, you could watch the episode of Cupake Wars they won and look through the baking supplies they have for sale. My wife had the white out cupcake and i had a texas sheet cake. The frosting was just right on mine and she enjoyed hers as well. Moist cake also. They certainly are award winning. Worst experience ever. What I had ordered is definitely not what I was paid alot of money for. Cake was not finished. They gave it to me any way. Crammed in a flimsy box too. Was so nice traveling 2 hrs with it. Not. Called the next day to get some answers. The manager Dawn was supposed to find out. Pretty sure she just wanted to just get rid of me. Days later I'm callin back bc she has never called. Was told she wasnt there so many times. Then via email and facebook she basically tried to whitewash everthing. Straight up lied about altering things for the cake ( it was a barbie cake and they gave barbie a God awful haircut I'm assuming bc her hair was in the way ) They ABSOLUTELY did cut her hair. Anyway she said they didnt. Tried to say I still owed money for it. I didnt. Was paid in full. She said I seemed satisfied at the store when I picked it up. I wasn't. They knew it. It wasn't finished. I feel like they tried to turn everything around like I was calling just to complain to get a refund or something. It was a disaster a they just need to own up to it. Period.
