My wife told me in no uncertain terms that this was the one place she wanted to visit on our vacation to Frankenmuth. As I don't watch TV, she informed me that the owners of this boutique bakery won 1st place on a competitive cupcake contest show and she wasn't going to come back without experiencing what made them the best. She's also gluten-free and it's a hard task to find gluten-free baked goods and I guess this place is known for making such confections available. I was quite impressed. The chocolate cupcake that I ate was fantastic! Each of my three children got their own as well so I was able to get a mini-sampling of different flavors. Not one was less than stellar. As I was so impressed, we ended up going back for a second trip before we headed back from vacation. The place has actually expanded and has a second satellite location right on Main Street but the main store has a lot more choices. If you're dodging gluten, be sure to call ahead the day before so you can request cupcakes of your choice in a gluten-free configuration as they don't make every flavor this way on a daily basis but instead have few dedicated flavors made without gluten by default. Wow! wonderful bakery I took my family and bought three jumbo cupcakes,my two faves were the maple bacon and strawberry lemonade which was light and decadent:) The service was great on a sunny Saturday which the bakery was packed but the service was fast and its air conditioned! I started coming to sugar high after finding out they had gluten free/dairy free cupcakes. I expected to find your average sized cupcakes, or even miniatures as other shops I've been to have offered. They are not, they are the same size as the other giant cupcakes they offer (with a very minimal price difference.) I prefer their vanilla cake it seems to be most moist than the gluten free chocolate cupcakes. While I'm happy they have gluten free cupcakes at all I wish they had a larger variety. They are consistent so that's a huge plus, fast/friendly service, and the shop is always well maintained. read more

My daughter brought home four and I chose a vanilla one with white icing and silver beads on top. Waited until this morning to have it with my coffee. The flavor was good but cake itself was gooey and underdone. I'm not sure if they were supposed to be in there but there was two small lumps of a harder product that wasn't cookie , more like cake batter that didn't get mixed in fully? Spots of watery something that made it even more gooey. The mouth texture was similar to peanut butter. I won't describe the icing because it was unmemorable. The cupcakes, so delicious, moist, flavorful, very large, and so cute! Very creative flavors. The prices are very reasonable in my opinion. We always get 4 and split them all so we can sample each. The mint chocolate is by far my favorite, some other flavors worth a try: Chocolate covered strawberry, Samoa, Oreo. Just to say you tried it...the pizza one!! haha not actually all that bad, but not my favorite. They also have doggie treats which I love and they are frosted and everything! We had theses cupcakes for our wedding last year and they were a hit!! On your 1 year anniversary they let you come in and get cupcakes for free to celebrate! Me and my husband live in Arizona so we were excited when we went on a trip 2 months after our anniversary. We stopped in to ask if they would still honor our anniversary cupcakes but they said we had to order them a week in advance! We explained we are 2,000 miles away and were just in for the day. Rather than give us a single cupcake or anything else we ended up leaving with the cupcakes we had already purchased. That's very poor customer service in my opinion. We spent close to $2,000 on cupcakes last year and they couldn't even offer us one cupcake to commemorate our special day. read more

I just recently tried these cupcakes at a bridal show. I'm sorry to say but these cupcakes paled in comparison to the other selections that were there (Zehnder's and The Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe). They were very dry and lacked creativity in presentation. I had heard great things about these cakes in the past, so I was very excited to have my family try a sample, and we were less than thrilled, to say the least. Are they made from a box mix? The cake tasted like Duncan Hines, or Betty Crocker. Not at all how I would expect gourmet cupcakes to taste.... :-/ But they have a good reputation. So maybe it was the person who made the cupcakes for this show? Not sure. If I'm ever in the area, I'll be sure to try the cupcakes again, because I find it hard to believe that of all the great reviews I've heard, that my entire family was that disappointed. read more

We purchased 5 cupcakes $15.50. The cupcake itself lacks flavor, it is the over the top frosting that carries all the flavor and sweetness. Out of all the cupcakes purchased the best one was the plan old vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. Way over priced and way too much frosting and not enough flavor in the cake part of the cupcake. They are pretty to look at but not worth spending $3.50 each or (4) for $12.00 (ouch), we will not be doing that again. I'll stick to baking my own at home. read more

I have gone through them for small sweet treats and loved them. But this experience is about my wedding cake. I splurged on a wedding cake from sugar high after having a very tight budget. I explained I wanted a blingy fun cake even showed pictures of exactly what I wanted. It was supposed to be a 3 tier cake with 3 dozen cupcakes. the cupcakes were all supposed to be different colors that were gold, gold blush, and ivory. What I actually received was ivory cupcakes that looked like they were from walmart. So plain! no colors at all! no bling! the cake was all ivory with ivory piped pearls and that's it! no texturing like I'd asked for! no bling! and to top it off the top layer even fell in itself! it made my cake topper fall off destroying what little design they put into the cake! I have never had people talk about how boring a cake looked until that night! how embarrassing! Not what you would expect from a company that claims to be so creative! The cake tasted great but I didn't get a single picture of myplain ugly cake because I hated it to much! Today 1 week after the event I called to talk about the cake and how disaponted I was. Dawn answered and asked for pictures. I emailed her the one picture my mom took on her phone of the cake. I called back to see what she thought and her only resolution to the issue was she will work on her communication skills and ensure that she gets the word out about it. I have been a customer of theirs for years! To not hear a single sorry, or anything I am so livid! I cried because of the way she spoke to me even! She basically made me feel bad for saying anything bad about the design. When I brought up the differences in the sketch they made and emailed to me from the actual cake she said it was a "communication issue" and she would work on that. I told her she specifically wrote for the cake to be textured and she said that they had put some edible glitter on two of the tiers so she thought that would work. They did actually contact me back later and are working to resolve the issue now. The owner did apologize on here. I love their cupcakes and their shop is one of my favorite stops when in the area. I just was so disappointed that we could have 2 totally different visions of the same cake. Sugar high is still a great bakery I just strongly suggest being very specific of what you would like. read more

I was pretty underwhelmed by this place. The macarons weren't made correctly, and were much too small and too sugary. Most of the macarons were also either too soft or too hard. Not worth the money at all. Disappointed, because this is the closest place to where I live that sells them. I definitely won't be back for the macarons, but I'll try the gelato once it's in season. I went to Sugar High for a cake tasting for my wedding. Heather, the owner, and her husband Adam were extremely pleasant, helpful and encouraging. On most appointments for my wedding planning, I feel pressured to sign contracts I don't understand and stressed about them stretching my budget. Heather was understanding, accommodating and had great suggestions. Now the important part- the product! Heather and Adam brought out an assortment of cupcakes and fillings/frosting/icing. We could mix and match the flavors and colors. It was so hard to choose our flavors because they were all good! We chose orange and cherry cake with whipped cream icing. It's the perfect combination for our late summer pink/orange wedding! The options are endless, the product is great, the service is fantastic and the artistic touches are perfect. By far a great experience. We can't wait for our wedding and to share our Sugar High with all our guests! read more

The cupcakes are huge and amazing! I've never had a bad cupcake here--there's a great frosting to cake ratio, the cake is super moist, and the size is great for sharing. The shop is cute and has their Food Network appearance on a loop. It's located in the shopping center and was hard to find via GPS. I have had many cupcakes from many different cupcake bakeries and these were by far the best. Not only are they big, they are super moist. We got 4 different ones; peanut butter, Oreo cookie, chocolate raspberry and the one of the ones that they made to win Cupcake Wars (don't remember the name). The icing on all 4 was incredible; so smooth and creamy. I tasted all 4 but the peanut butter was mine and OMG!! There was a peanut butter filling that was to die for! They were $4 each or 4 for $14 and well worth it because , like I said, they are huge! I am so glad I don't live near this bakery because I would weigh 300 pounds. Went there this last week with my wife, because everybody had been telling her that we had to try it. It is a nice little shop, and if you LOVE cup cakes and ridiculous amounts of sugar, you will certainly enjoy this place. They have a variety of cup cakes (and gelato on the weekends) available. I tried the Oreo cup cake and the Charlie Brown cup cake, which is basically just a cup cake with frosting/creme in the center. It was good, but a little rich for my taste, very chocolatey! For four cup cakes it was about $24.00 so not exactly cheap, but the cup cakes are not exactly small either. Definitely worth a stop if you are there. I saw they also have decorating classes available and do wedding cakes and other special occasion cakes. read more

Being a cupcake fan with limited options for tasty fresh cupcakes near me, I was super excited to find Sugar High in Frankenmuth. Although it is over an hour drive, I make excuses to visit the town just for the Sugar High cupcakes! I've tried several different cupcakes here and each has been amazing, consistently. My favorite is the cuatro leches. It is similar to the "tres leches" cake you may be familiar with, but better :) Second on my list is the lemon lime. I usually order two (my husband also gets two) and they last a couple of days. I find both the cake and frosting on every cake to be just perfect in both taste and texture. They're also beautifully decorated. Clearly this bakery takes a lot of pride in the products they produce. Lastly, they always have house-made treats to take home to your K-9 family members and has an obvious passion for wellness of pups. Thanks SH for being awesome in so many ways! read more

I was really impressed that they lasted so well from our ride back to Cleveland in 90 degree heat (though, we did have the A/C cranked up pretty high). To be honest, the only thing I can possibly be disappointed with as I sit down to write my review of SugarHigh Bakery is that Yelp doesn't give me the option to rate higher than 5 stars!!! My experience with SugarHigh was truly exceptional and I can't suggest them enough for your next special event. I live in Massachusetts but had made a special request to the Michigan-based bakery hoping that they might be able to ship me a special batch of cupcakes for my boyfriend's birthday. One of the bakery's owners, Heather, and her crew REALLY came through for me! I ordered 8 jumbo cupcakes - all in various flavors - to get a taste of these famous cupcakes. We were thrilled with every single one! The cupcakes arrived exactly on the date I had requested, wrapped beautifully in cupcake themed wrapping paper, and they were thoughtfully packaged to ensure freshness and stability in their travels. She even reached out to me on the date of their arrival to ensure they arrived safely! My favorite flavor was the Strawberry Sundae (I think that's what it was called) - the cupcake was perfectly moist, the filling/flavor was natural and perfectly sweet, and the frosting...well, let's just say you could put it on a leather shoe and it would still be delicious! I only wish SugarHigh was closer...although, I'd probably weigh a heck of a lot more :-P (Although, it would totally be worth it haha!) We got an assortment of regular sized cupcakes for our wedding. They were a hit! Everyone loved all the flavors, it was so much easier and less expensive then having a cake that feeds 140 people. They also delivered to our wedding venue. Everyone we dealt with was very accommodating and helpful. We also got a taste pack to take home, to make different combinations for ourselves of cake and frosting flavors. We loved the Quarto Leche with buttercream frosting! read more

Love SugarHigh so much! It is my favorite place to go when I need a pick-me-up because the cupcakes are always amazing, literally the best cupcakes (or any dessert for that matter) that I have every had. So far I have tried the carrot cupcake with was very moist and yummy. One called mud something (can't really remember the name) and it was chocolate with chocolate frosting and shavings, and had a chocolate pudding like center. It was basically dripping with chocolate and would fix any craving you might have. My second favorite is the black forest cupcake which is a chocolate cupcake with a cherry center, little fluffy as-close-to-heaven-as-you-can-get white frosting, and of course a cherry on top. But the most amazing one I have tried so far is the Banana Split cupcake. It's pure sinful deliciousness! If you are trying to decide if you would rather have a cupcake or ice cream go with the banana split cupcake. Heather is a miricale worker when it comes to blending flavors because this baby tastes exactly like a banana split, my favorite part is the pinapple center. As for the store itself, it is cute and pink and all cupcake. The kind of place every 12 year old girl would love to live. The staff has always been friendly, attentive, and chatty when I have visited. The best time to go is on a weekday afternoon when there is no festival going on in winter. You practically have the whole store to yourself if not literally. I tell everyone I know about this place whenever someone even mentions the word cupcake. If you have never been go. Right now! My family and I stopped here on Father's Day after having dinner at the Bavarian Inn. This was our first visit to the bakery and it won't be our last. The staff was welcoming and very pleasant. They answered our questions about their many decorative cupcakes and provided free samples of their gelato. It was a difficult decision on which cupcakes to buy as they all looked fantastic. We did end up buying four different kinds and they were all delicious. Wish we had bought more home with us. read more
