The gentleman working there said he would make me a fresh batch anyway, despite there being some ready to go. He fried the mini doughnut and I requested them be topped with cinnamon-sugar. I sat outside and took a bite of these doughnut and I had one of those moments where I realized that every doughnut I have eaten in a grocery store or at Dunkin' Donuts has been a dry, stale, sham. Their waffle cones were very fresh and crispy. They sold out of the chocolate covered covers, but that was fine, the plain was really yummy. I do like to look for a place with a large turn over, that usually ensures that product is fresher, which it was. We all had some different flavors, cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, rainbow sherbet, coconut Eskimo kiss, cookie monster, and sugar free deer traxx (it was greatly appreciated to have unique sugar free flavor instead of the standard chocolate or butter pecan since our sugar free consumer desires the fun flavors as well). They were really fresh and yummy. The regular scoops were huge! Great portion size, and even more remarkable pricing! With a coupon found in the Frankenmuth downtown area coupon book, the four ice creams only cost us $15, this is such a great deal. Some tourist towns charge $6 or more for a small scoop. Great savings allow us to purchase more and help our dollar go further. This is a place I would return to again and again.

In addition to the bakery there is a gift shop and cafeteria style restaurant. One might think this is a hotel and not just a restaurant. In the bakery the pastries are huge, probably double the size of a normal item. There are a multitude of pastries, donuts, breads, cookies, candy, and beverages. I had the strudel light flaky crust delicious apple filling. It's set up like a retail bakery (ok hence the name). However, that was my biggest disappointment. I was expecting a 'coffee shop' style place, but here is that it's somewhat set up as like a grab-and-go pick up or select items and have to take them to a cashier. And the coffee was self serve. I expected more like a regular café. In any case everything was very good. I'm glad I went to the bakery and not just the restaurant or I would've missed this entire place.
