I'm a cupcake hound. And I consider myself a cupcake connoisseur. We stepped in Sugarhigh Bakery and I knew just by looking at the offerings in the case, it was to my standards. The cupcakes are beautiful in appearance and quality in taste. My family sampled quite a few (cuz we don't play small) and our favs were the raspberry white chocolate and the butterbeer. But all their flavors are worth trying if you need to satisfy your sweet tooth! Yum. Don't forget to pick up a treat for your pup while you're in there too! A Dessert Haven. You walk in and there's a long counter of Ice Cream, then a dozen different cupcakes, then at least a dozen macarons, followed by cookies and a bunch of other stuff. No tarts though, that made me sad. Apparently they are known for their cupcakes. So I ordered a French Toast and a Chocolate Lovers. They were both fantastic. I can see why they are well known. I also got a Chocolate chip cookie. It was excellent, soft and yummy. The service was efficient and friendly. Overall a 6 star review. Would I return? Absolutely! First thing first, the cupcakes I've had from here were truly amazing and I will be going back for more. Unfortunately my review isn't about them.. We chose this bakery for my sister's baby shower treats: a three tier gourmet cake and custom royal icing cookies. The cupcakes are amazing so the cake has to be the same level, right? Wrong, so sadly wrong. The fondant/frosting/whatever they wrap the cake in was so thick we struggled to cut through it, and once we did it was separating from the cake itself, and honestly was an unappetizing mess. The cake itself was quite dry. Smaller note but important because when gourmet services are offered they need to be done right, the color we requested was off. Pale purple turned out too close to blue, considering it was a gender reveal cake.. unacceptable quality issues for a "gourmet" product. Now for the royal icing cookies: they are for looks only. Do not bother eating these, they are honestly gross. The custom shapes were well executed and the piping really beautiful, but if it doesn't taste good it isn't worth any of the work. Final note on service: I found it odd that when I asked the coordinator helping us place the order what their cancellation policy was, she looked at me like she'd never been asked before.. seemed like a common and logical question to me, which maybe speaks to their lack of expertise in the event niche. No further communication was offered or given than place the order, show up day of.. For anyone in the market, I would not recommend the event cakes as I did not get the quality that I expected for the price. If I could do it over again, I would however get many many cupcakes instead. read more

We are visiting Frankenmuth and I was very excited to come to Sugarhigh Bakery. We made it a point I to ensure we visited. It was a very disappointing experience. We came Monday January 20th around 1:30 and there were two employees a young girls and another lady that was older. The customer service was so bad it took everything in me not to leave. It completely ruined the experience. I purchased few items among them coffee, I simply asked the older lady if they had dark roast to which she answered they are all labeled. . I know how to read and yes they are all Labeled but the least I was expecting from Her es just to let me know in what direction to look or a simple I'm sorry I don't know or no we don't anything beside anything besides the answer I received. We were the only people in the store and she made it seem Like our precedence was a huge inconvenience. Pardon me for patronizing the business. It left such a bad tastes in my mouth my husband wanted to leave and not purchase anything but we don't live around the corner, I purchased my items and left. I visit Sugarhigh on a quarterly or semi-annual basis. What I've experienced is their FRESH cupcakes are outstanding. The problem is when the cupcakes have set out for a day or more and the cake portion of the cup cake dries out. It makes it difficult to get a consistent experience because the fresh ones are so amazing and the day olds are so disappointing. Be careful when you visit at opening or during slower periods of the week as you're likely to get the older cupcakes, which are far inferior but cost the same. Service is consistent as the staff are friendly and efficient, willing to help. The store is average cleanliness but the outside tables could use more attention. It can get busy and there is not much room to move in the store and seating is extremely limited inside. read more

Cupcake wars for us this weekend! I remember when this bakery opened, then won cupcake wars in 2012 during season seven. We come here every time we're in town. I bought two cereal treats, fruity pebbles and lucky charms, a cake pop, cookie sandwich, and four cupcakes. Texas sheet cake is my absolute favorite. The chocolatey nutty ganache is heavenly. I also got the chocolate peanut butter, the frosting was creamy and flavorful. My youngest loves the cookie dough, and my oldest enjoyed the butter beer cupcake, a must buy for Harry Potter and Universal fans! It was bursting with butterscotch flavor, a nice touch far away from Hogwarts. Almost as good as Sprinkles Cupcakes but closer to home. With so few small business bakeries, we will continue to support our local winners. read more

I was into cupcake wars for many years so when I found out that one of the winners had a store here I was so excited. I am a huge fan of sweets and this shop didn't disappoint. So many wonderful flavors to choose from and my only regret was not trying the chocolate covered bacon which was recommended by their staff and later found out from a friend, it was delicious. Let's get to the positive which was me and my son's choices of cupcakes which were sooo good. He chose the simple chocolate cupcake and I chose the gluten free and dairy free cupcake as I should be abiding by at least dairy free which is super hard. I was expecting an ok cupcake but was completely blown away by the taste. It didnt taste like something is midsing which tends to happen in this type of sweet with restrictions. Best cupcakes I have ever had! Very moist, not too sugary and even having them 2-3 days after purchase they were still very yummy and not stale or hard at all. Probably the softest cupcakes I've had, if that makes any sense. We did the 4-$12 deal and got Cherry Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Mudslide and Red Velvet. Hard to pick a favorite because they were all so good. I'm not much of a chocolate/coffee person but actually I think mudslide was near top of my list. Can't wait to come back and try other flavors. A sweet treat, indeed. Sugarhigh Bakery won "Cupcake Wars" last year and I can see why. Their cupcakes really are incredible. I've sampled several of their varieties and I can't say that I was displeased with any of them. In fact, it's the opposite. I'm rather impressed with not only their flavors, but their selection and the presentation as well. These gourmet cupcakes really are as good as it gets. I've had a variety of their cupcakes (Yes, I have a sweet tooth, so.........), but the Triple Chocolate, Tiramisu and Salted Caramel varieties rank among my personal favorites, while my hubby prefers the Snicker Doodle and Maple, but we both agree that the Peanut Butter cupcake is too good to eat just one. Seriously, it's so addictive. The texture is soft and moist and the toppings are decadent, but not overly sugary, sickening sweet like typical frosting. I applaud Sugarhigh for their unique approach to both cupcake flavors and presentation. These definitely aren't your grandma's cupcakes (well, at least not my grandmother's cupcakes, anyway). They weren't the least bit dry, the toppings were generous and not at all skimpy like some commercial grade varieties, the icing was smooth and creamy, and the cake itself had a light, not dense, texture. They even stayed as fresh as they were the date they were made for about three days afterward, although I'm still not sure how we managed to have any leftover, but we did. Now, that's a hallmark of excellent quality. Most cupcakes/cakes seem to get dry right away, even if you put them in a container or freeze them, but that's not what happened with these, fortunately. Yes, grocery store cupcakes are a whole lot cheaper, but the quality is nothing like this. Besides, the size of these cupcakes are a fairly large, more like two or three regular cupcakes in one. A little goes a long way. Also, if you buy them in packages of four, the bakery discounts them a bit, so that's what we did. It's not hard to select at least four. Nope, not at all. It's difficult to narrow it down to only four, though, at least it was for me. Other than being known for their cupcakes, Sugarhigh makes terrific macaroons and some of the best gelato I've had in the states.Try the Triple Chocolate, Strawberry Lemonade and Peanut Butter gelato. I loved the Peanut Butter and Triple Chocolate, so for me it's pretty much a horse race between those two flavors as far as a favorite goes. It's so good. Is it the cheapest? No. Is is the best? Arguably, yes. Is it hard to pass up? Definitely. Overall, the bakery is super cute and the customer service is outstanding. They're pretty generous with the samplings of their cupcakes and gelato (among other things) and encourage customers to try a little of this and that before buying. They have a relatively small seating area inside, but it's pretty adequate and most people just tend to walk around the mall eating their treats as they shop, for what that's worth. Other than the aforementioned treats, they also sell boutique dog treats for the furry, four-legged set, plus they have a small retail section in the back, selling Sugarhigh t-shirts and other merchandise as well. read more

I am super disappointed! This place was supposed to be really good, and I am not impressed at all. I ordered a Oreo cup cake, it tasted so much like a hostess chocolate cup cake, tasted nothing like Oreo at all! My daughter got a hot chocolate cup cake and said the frosting was good but the cupcake itself was just chocolate. I'm not sure how they won cup cake wars with weak flavored cupcakes! My daughter also got the Oreo gelato and she said she didn't taste much Oreo in it, said it tasted more like vanilla ice. The shop was very clean, everyone was working seemed really nice and polite, all the deserts looked good.. maybe we just chose the wrong ones. I would honestly give SugarHigh a 3.5/5. I'm originally from Chicago so I really love Molly's Cupcake. I heard from my friend who lives in Frankenmuth that Sugar High was on Cupcake Wars and they won. I had to check for myself HOW DELICIOUS they are. The moment I walked into SugarHigh, the environment is super friendly and happy. That is what I expect from walking into a cupcake store. I asked the worker what was good and she gave me so many recommendations. I loved the presentation of all the cupcakes but I didn't know what I really wanted. She told me to try their Quarto Leche which was one the winning cupcakes on Cupcake Wars. I fell in love. Apparently they use 4 different sweetners but it wasn't overly sweet. It's so surprising. I'm a little disappointed because I ordered Red Velvet, Mint Chocolate Chip and Tiramisu. Those weren't amazing. The Red Velvet was light and fluffy but the frosting was super thick and heavy. I didn't like how sweet it was. The Mint Chocolate Chip was a little too sweet and not minty enough. Lastly, the tiramisu was more of a sweet coffee. I was expecting a Tiramisu cake flavor, but it was a little disappointing. I really wanted to try the Oreo cupcake. I'm not sure if I'd go back. Maybe if I'm in the area. This bakery's cupcakes used to be phenomenal but now are overpriced, flavorless, and disappointing. Over the years the workers became rude, and it is very off-putting. I've been to Frankenmuth several times, but never tried Sugarhigh Bakery, though it is a newer addition to the River Place Shops, at least since my family would take us here, when we were younger. Long before the water park and BBQ. But I like that Frankenmuth is mixing in some new with the old; there is definitely more to do there now. So it was an interesting experience to take my daughter there, after so many visits when I was a kid. Which is how we came to Sugarhigh Bakery. My daughter is on a real cake pop kick, so we went to grab a couple of those for her, and just because they had so many delicious-looking cupcake flavors, I decided to try a Snickerdoodle cupcake for myself. I was seriously impressed. I didn't know what to expect, but it was moist, tender, and perfectly spiced, with just the right amount of vanilla frosting on top. I cook and bake myself, so usually my standard is "Is this something on par with or better than I can make at home?" And it definitely met that standard. It tasted just like something I *would* make at home, but without all the time and hassle of baking and cleaning up. When you can cook, it can become like a responsibility; people expect you to cook/bake things for parties and holidays etc, but sometimes I just want a cookie or a cupcake that is homemade, but one I didn't have to make. It's hard to articulate just how nice that feels. That's what this cupcake tasted like. My only slight criticism is that I didn't see any forks to eat the cupcake with, as the cupcakes are quite big, and hard (but not impossible!) to stuff in my mouth. My daughter mauled both her chocolate and vanilla cake pops, no forks required. The staff was very friendly to top it all off. The place is super cute on the inside, just like you expect a cupcake bakery to be, and the prices are insanely reasonable. Holy cow!!! I've been searching for years for the best GF cupcake and I've finally found it. They have a nice selection of cupcakes and other sweet treats which most bakeries do but they go a step or two further with a nice variety of GF cupcakes. Today I left with two chocolate and one cinnamon... I could kick myself for not grabbing the strawberry and the birthday cake as well. The Chocolate gf cupcake is moist with a milky chocolate flavor the icing is a light creamy chocolate, I may have tasted a little butter cream in there too. You'll note my enthusiastic update from a few years ago. Time for an update! I stopped in and bought 24 cupcakes yesterday ($88 worth). They didn't have their signature Lime available, but I found enough others (I thought). The cupcakes still look pretty good, but sadly I felt like I was eating a muffin with each one. If anyone has ever had Just Baked cupcakes, you will know what I mean. I tried to take bites of just cake to see how the flavor was, and each one was flavorless when the frosting was absent. The Charlie Brown cupcake was the best of the bunch, but my family and I have been staring at two boxes of cupcakes to finish and we would rather not! I definitely bought too many and I'll take the blame for that. Your best bet is to pick one you really want and then get things at some of the other places in Frankenmuth. read more

Warning: Cupcake aficionado reporting for duty. I stopped in on my way up north to grab a few cupcakes for the gang. I had read that they had won Cupcake Wars so it was a must try. They have a few gluten free options so that was appealing to the two of us not gluten folks. The shop itself is very cute and from the displays everything looks amazing. Here is the downside, yes sorry there is a downside. The cupcake frosting is just not good at all. The cupcakes had great flavor and texture, not too dense and not too moist. The fan favorite was the strawberry, including the gluten free strawberry. The cupcakes were also nice and big. But what makes a cupcake is the frosting and that was just not their strong suit. The buttercream is somewhat greasy and very sweet. It reminds me of grocery store frosting. I had hoped for something not so sickly sweet with great flavor but was let down. read more

Every December our family has ordered a dozen gluten free specialty cupcakes. We have done this for over 5 years. It was always a highlight of the holiday season for my family. We paid a premium around 50 dollars but it was always worth it. I call them up today to place an order and they inform me they cannot do any of their specialty cupcakes gluten free! The person on the phone also tells me they have NEVER done gluten free specialty cupcakes, which is absolutely NOT true as we have been ordering them year after year and they were always taken as a gluten free order and labeled as gluten free on the box as well.. In the beginning years they even did a Oreo cupcake with a GF Oreo substitute! They then said they could only do basic gluten free cupcakes. Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla and that is it. Their specialty cupcakes being Gluten Free made this place special. Now they want to charge premium prices for generic flavored cupcakes, how disappointing. If I wanted a chocolate cupcake I could just make them at home. I guess times change, very sad. :( read more
