A room at Wyndham Sugar Bay
    Stacy Y.

I was pleased with my 6 day 5 night stay here. My best friends decided to get married in the USVI and this is the resort they chose, although they did not have the actual wedding here. There were 24 of us total, 17 adults and 7 children (ages 1 - 14). We went with All-Inclusive Plan which was a great deal as food can be quite pricey on the islands. Check-in was simple and we were given a packet with all in the information we needed. This included many coupons for local attractions and a $100 traveler's check - sweet! The resort is quite big and was a bit intimidating to navigate at first, but by the second day it was pretty simple to find my way around. There are quite a few buildings and they aren't connected. It really is a gorgeous place - lots of lush plants, all kinds of wildlife (iguanas, various birds, snails) and lovely views from the rooms. It was exactly what I expected from a tropical resort. The rooms themselves were good/alright. It wasn't super posh or fancy, but comfortable. I had a room to myself and there were 2 double beds, desk, 2 chairs, TV, mini-fridge, safe, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, enough hangers and a decent bathroom. The amenities were good and I like that Wyndham uses Bath and Body Works products. My room also had a little balcony with chairs overlooking the pool/ocean, that was really nice. We spent most of our time at the pool/beach, Mangrove Restaurant and the Iguana Grill. There's a shuttle that can take you from the lobby down to the pool area, but we used the stairs during our visit. There are a lot of stairs to get down to the pool and beach (~100). Our entire party used them and nobody took the shuttle. The stairs were a much quicker option. The nice thing about the pool being a significant distance from any buildings: it never closes. We asked what time the pool closed and we were pleasantly surprised to find out it never does! Sweet! There were quite a few late night swims during our trip! The pool area was lovely and the pool itself is huge! There are plenty of chairs to lounge in, a game area (life size Jenga, pool table) inside a grotto and a volleyball net on one side of the pool. You can rent snorkel/kayak equipment for free. You just need a credit card, your room number and be sure to turn in your items before 4pm! The Mangrove Restaurant/Iguana Grill, Caribe and the Turtle Rock Sports Bar sit right at the pool - which is where we ate most of our meals. The beach is gorgeous, but it is a little rocky. This makes for great snorkeling - there were SO many fish down there! I never snorkeled before and it was awesome! There are also jet skis available for rental right on the beach. The restaurants: Mangrove Restaurant/Iguana Grill: Poolside buffet open most of the day. The meals here were good, they always had quite a few options. There is a salad bar, various hot entrees (mac & cheese, pastas, chicken, potatoes, etc). During prime times there was a grill cook present and you could order a hot dog/burger or the special of the day. I did enjoy a cheese steak sandwich one afternoon while I was there. There is also a dessert station with plenty of options. Turtle Rock Sports Bar: This is also located poolside and served up some tasty drinks! The bartenders here were really cool and always willing to strike up a conversation. The drinks were yummy! They have a variety of fruity cocktails and frozen concoctions featuring the local Cruzan Rum. Again, exactly what I expected to drink during my tropical vacation - fruity rum drinks. Perfect! The kids also got to enjoy the frozen drinks, just virgin versions. Who doesn't love a kiddie cocktail! Caribe: I didn't eat here during my stay. Manor House Restaurant: This is the "fancy" hotel buffet! It is located in the main building where the lobby is. The options were a bit more upscale and quite tasty! There is a small salad bar/dessert bar. There's a hot buffet featuring: various meat dishes (beef, chicken, seafood), potatoes, soup and like the Iguana Grill you can place a custom grill order. They also offer a great breakfast buffet with eggs, lots of breakfast meat, potatoes, oatmeal, cereal and an omelet station. Ocean Club Lounge: This is connected (via a glass wall) to the Manor House Restaurant. There is a small bar and TONS of different gambling machines. They have standard drinks here, not the fruity tropical ones like the Turtle Rock. The bartenders here were fun as well. They also offer a late night pizza menu that you can take to-go back to your room. Monday night they offer karaoke and it's a blast! Their karaoke guy has thousands of songs and he was so fun. I had a really great vacation and this resort was just perfect for our large group. I would return. My room cost per night was approximately $225 in late October (off season). Considering the All-Inclusive option I felt that was a good value.

    Newly (NEWLY) painted bathroom...

When we arrived on Friday (Jan. 2, 2015) the receptionist informed us of some construction underway in part of our building - she immediately offered us an upgrade from our queen-sized, ocean-view room to a newly-renovated king room on the bay side. And while the move seemed like a no brainer, the suite was indeed "newly renovated", meaning fresh, wet paint on several of the bathroom walls and construction dust on the floor. (The latter was immediately addressed with a phone call to the front desk.) The huge room featured new gray tile floors, freshly white-washed walls with all new bathroom fixtures and new vanities. The headboard, dresser and mirror were obviously repurposed pieces, pitted with scratches and gouges, but nothing too distracting. The room included an iron and ironing board, hair dryer, a nicely-stocked mini fridge (no charges), a dual cup coffee maker, a 35" television and wifi. We spent our entire visit on site, enjoying the rather small'ish beach and massive pool complex. The white sand beach is deep, but less than a few hundred feet wide - walking out for a dip in the water was less than comfortable, due to the coquina-like rock just below the thin layer of beach sand at the tide line. Once in the water, it was refreshing and calm. Lounge chairs were abundant and available at both the pool and beach, but for some odd reason, towels are only available "one per person" from the sundries office - so you couldn't pick up a towel for your spouse's chair, or extra towels for drying off. We remedied that by asking the pool boys to fetch us towels, when needed, and they were happy to do so. Speaking of the pool boys, they, and the pool/beach waitresses, were amazingly polite and attentive, popping by whenever our drinks were a bit low, offering up dining menus and bottled water. By the second day, we were on a first name basis with several of the staff members, including the swim-up bar host and the chefs working at the outdoor grill. Across the compound, we found all the staff members polite, gracious and helpful. Access down to the pool and beach from the hotel was either by shuttle bus, which operated every 15 minutes during our stay, or by a gorgeous wooden walkway dubbed the "99 Steps". Food and restaurant service was "budget cruise ship"-quality, at best. On our all-inclusive plan, we were offered three dining options at the main building; French, Italian American or Japanese steakhouse - no reservations were ever needed, and our longest wait for a party of six was less than five minutes. There were posted "dress codes" for all three (no bathing suits here, pants-only there....), but nothing appeared to be enforced. Dining portions for dinner were small'ish to ample, but most everyone enjoyed multiple trips to the all-you-can-eat crab legs and antipasto bar. On the first night I had a lovely piece of perfectly-seared black grouper over couscous and topped with fresh mango chutney. The second night, I was given two rather tiny lamb chops -which I called "lolli-lamp'pops"- with a side of bland, steamed vegetables. Desserts were bulk-produced and included tiramisu, red velvet cake and (dry) bread pudding. The bread and bun offerings were always stale, and the butter pads always frozen, rock hard - one of my pet peeves for any restaurant. At breakfast, we almost always had to wait for a table to be cleared, but the wait was always made pleasant by the Bloody Mary and mimosa bar at the front of the line. Service was rather slow at breakfast, and none of our meals ever came out hot. Food offerings were simple; tepid, tasteless oatmeal, eggs -including eggs Benedict- reheated pancakes, French toast and mealy, cold pre-packaged breakfast potatoes. There was always a small selection of fresh fruit available, as well as plain yogurt and, again, stale breads, including boxed muffins and pastries. I enjoyed the smoked salmon, capers and onions, a'la lox n' bagels-style on the last three mornings. Even at the $450+ a day all-inclusive rate, I certainly felt as though I drank my share of liquor and wine - all of the pours were strong by the bartenders, and all the booze slingers knew their cocktail recipes. I'm a bit of a bourbon and whisky snob, so I was pleased to see they stocked Jack Daniels Black in the well, and offered several premium brands of vodka and rums, by request. We never paid an up-charge for "high end" booze, including after dinner liquors and dessert wines. Several of the dinner wines were very nice, and included one of my wife's favorite white wines. While I don't drink beer, our friends noted all the bars served plain Budweiser, Heineken, Coors Light and Corona. While I don't have much experience with tropical locations or all-inclusive resorts, I thought our entire visit was pleasant and worthy of repeat, especially if we could score a slightly discounted price. All 30+ members of our party reportedly had a good time as well.

Nervous after reading some of the reviews but ended up having a great time. Room was large and clean. Ceiling fan was broke when we arrived but was fixed quickly after a phone call. Resort strives to be family friendly. Kids' programs every day. The service was attentive but on an "island" pace. Food was above average but not phenomenal. Definitely recommend the all inclusive package. Would come back in the future.

Took this picture in the lobby on 6/14/15. Says a lot about the place.

Let me start by saying that the following review is 100% true. I wish I were being hyperbolic as I might have enjoyed my wedding experience more. To say the accommodations and service are underwhelming at this supposedly 4 star resort is being far too kind. After 7 days here, I'm fresh out of kindess. What an abysmal dump. ***Ignore this review at your own peril.*** - Sat in the lobby with my luggage an hour past check-in. What was being done to the room during that hour is beyond me as the floor is filthy. - All kinds of trash in the walkways leading to the rooms. (Stepped over the same Qtip outside of our room for three days.) - Asked for a handicap-accessible room for my father, they put him in a room with a broken tub stopper and not a single grab bar in it. Don't think the ADA is of any concern to Dreams Sugar Bay. If you're disabled, go somewhere else! - The water stopped working in our room an hour before our wedding. Called the front desk, was told it was a resort-wide problem and to "give it an hour." After I explained that my wedding was in an hour and I needed a shower, the lady told me I could walk down to the spa and take a shower there. A couple in our party had to change rooms after this as their hot water never came back on. - As far as the "all inclusive" food and meal service goes, Gordon Ramsey would chew this place up and vomit it out. There are several themed restaurants and I saw guests walk out after waiting hours for their food. Some of our party were in the French-themed Bordeaux (Sugar Bay's fanciest- no kids allowed, strictest dress code) when the whole restaurant began shaking like an earthquake. The waiter went around to each table explaining that it was just the laundry on the floor below. If you ignore my warnings, be prepared to eat the same bland, depressing food at each meal three times a day. - Oh, and the "spa." SMH. I went there for a haircut a couple of days before our wedding. Nasty smell as we walked in and hair in the sinks. Hairdresser struck up a conversation on racism and politics as we watched the housekeeper dip her fingers in the makeup and apply to her face. I laugh every time I pass the multiple signs around here touting the spa's Ultimate Luxury ©. I've had more rejuvenating subway rides. - As for the staff, there were some nice people. There were also some staff who were incredibly rude and insolent in response to the slightest request. It's unbelievable with the amount of money we spent to stay here that there were times when we felt so unwelcome. - It appears they took a dilapidated hotel that should have been torn down and slapped on a fresh coat of paint, added some Dreams corporate signage, and then sold it as a "luxury resort." In fact, a portion of the hotel was under construction during our visit so there was a constant dust in the air and banging. Also, the occasional awkward elevator ride with dudes in hardhats and wheelbarrows of concrete. "Oh you're breaking your back in the sun for peanuts? Don't mind me, I'm here on holiday." I've stayed in WAY nicer and cleaner Motel 6s. For a tenth of the cost, one could just go to Myrtle Beach, SC during Bike Week and experience the same class, ambience, and charm. This "resort" should be renamed Nightmares Sugar Bay or Dirty Myrtle South. EPIC FAIL. (As for any positive reviews you'll encounter about this place, remember, there are a lot of people who enjoy Bike Week and a broken clock is correct twice a day.)

My husband and I stayed at Sugar Bay, Presidents Week 2014, we stayed for 6 nights under the all inclusive, then we stayed an additional night when our flight got canceled on the way home, so a total of 7 nights. I must say, I would probably give this resort and 2.5 overall. I really wanted to like this resort, even after I read the negative reviews, but I can't say I was fully satisfied. The resort itself is beautiful. The views and property are breathtaking, though the grounds should and could be maintained better. Everything looked like it was in need of a good paint job. The steps didn't really bother me, as I walk up a lot of steps daily, but my husband was not thrilled about them, though I did warn him before we booked the trip. It was also not easy to get information at times. You would see blank signs for the daily activities, but nothing was posted on them. The beach also is very 'rocky' so it's difficult to get into the water to enjoy a swim. My husband and I had the all inclusive package, which was worth getting due to the price of drinks and food. The food, however, is nothing to write home about. My biggest complaint was that only one restaurant is open nightly with menu service, the other restaurant is a buffet. My husband does not enjoy buffets, so this was somewhat annoying. This restaurant with menu service during our stay, Baci was also the one located by the pool, and beach so in order to get to it, you had to walk down all the steps. Which was not very enjoyable. Everyday there was a lunch buffet set up by the pool. The buffet lunch was usually the same foods daily. I think they had macaroni and cheese, cabbage and vegetables, rice, salad, chicken, and fish everyday I was there. The food at the dinner buffet was basically VERY similar. Also, this really annoyed my husband, burgers and fries could also be ordered at the lunch buffet restaurant, but the only reason we realized this is we saw other people ordering them. The lunch servers did not seem eager to assistance with orders, and/or getting drinks. We had to get up more then once to ask a server to come to our table. A few days a lunch bar was also open that did have menu service, which was nice. The breakfast buffet I thought was good. We usually went to the bar in the Manor House, after dinner and the bar tenders there were very nice, and helpful. Now, to our room. There was NEVER enough towels in the room, one day the maid forgot to leave them at all. Also on our last day/night there was NO hot water for at least 6 hours. Therefore, I couldn't shower before going to dinner when I was on the beach all day, and was worried I would have the same result when I woke up in the morning. Luckily hot water worked and I was able to shower before I went back to airport. When we went back to hotel after checking out due to our cancellation, the hotel wanted to charged us each $109 for our all inclusive privileges back. Now it was 7pm, and we were checking out at 11am. Obviously I said no, we just grabbed a pizza at the Caribe Market (which isn't included in all inclusive), for $8, and went to the room. Now, the new room we got looked exactly like the other one, but the TV would not hold a signal, and when I woke up in the morning there was no hot water, so I did get to sit on an airplane for hours the next day with out showering after all. In light of my situation I would not recommend booking a vacation at the Sugar Bay Resort again. I hope they can settle their food issues, and hire staff that is more helpful. Those were my two biggest complaints. Vacation is a time you should feel spoiled, and I didn't feel that way at Sugar Bay.

I am returning home after 5 awesome days in St Thomas staying at Sugar Bay. First, let me say that driving up to this resort I was pleasantly surprised. The property is huge, well kept, and in an awesome location. We were greeted by friendly staff members with delicious rum drinks. This is the way I like to start a vacation! I thought our room (we sprung for an ocean view upgrade) was even nicer than the website. Here's some tips from my experience: Pros- extremely friendly hotel staff - great breakfast in the morning, omelette bar was delish - beautiful pool area/ beach area. Water was so blue. Did some great snorkeling right there at their private beach. Only thing I can say is that the beach is rocky in certain parts, but still beautiful - easy to get cabs at the hotel for exploring Cons Almost zero. We didn't eat meals there because we were too busy exploring the island. Take a $10 cab to redhook. Such a fun area and great restaurant options - the female bartender at the pool bar was ridiculous. Worst service I received the entire trip. She ignored us when we sat at the bar (even though we were paying cash and not all inclusive) Sugar Bay needs to give this chick a drug test because she was clearly on something and seemed totally out of it the whole time Besides that I can honestly say this is a great hotel and I would definitely stay again next time I'm in St Thomas. I'm really missing that breathtaking view from my hotel room already!

What an awesome place! I was here with girlfriend and a buddy of mine in the summer of 2009. My girlfriend and I got an incredible room with a view overlooking the pools and the beach. The service was always courteous, timely and prompt. Rare for island life. Let me tell you about the tennis courts at Sugar Bay (the reason why I hauled my tennis rackets all the way from Seattle to only use them once). There are 4 outdoor courts in super excellent condition with wind shields and brand new surface, right next to a water fountain. I played only one day (the only time the resort posted a time for a tennis clinic on their social agenda). I played with the local pro of the resort (great guy) and a lady with her son, both from Chicago. We played doubles. I don't know if you've played in 110F degree humid weather - that was my first experience! I almost had a heat stroke (even though we played around 4:30 pm). Had to go into the lobby a couple of times to chill out and catch my breath, cool down with iced lemonade from the receptionist's desk. Courts are pretty and really tempting - but take my advice - play early morning or evening time.

Day 1:We arrive at the hotel 2 days later and are informed that ALL of their systems are down and that we couldn't be checked in yet. We were directed to the grill down by the pool for a few hours until their system was up. We hailed the bus that you have to take to the pool. We had some mediocre drinks and ate while the hours passed. Finally, we decided we wanted to be in our room so we hailed the bus again back to the main lobby only to be told that their systems were still not up. We were frustrated that we still were not able to get into our room. We demanded that they assign us at least 1 of the 2 rooms that we had booked. We arrived at 4:30 and were not in our room until at least 7:00 pm. We then had to have a bell man take us to our room bc we weren't not able to be issued a key to our OWN ROOM. We headed to our 1 and only room and decided to go down for dinner to see what it was like. We went to Baci , the Italian restaurant. We had just eaten a few hours prior but were interested in tasting the food. There were 4 of us so we got 2 meals and split it. After dinner we were offered dessert. We asked the waitress how big the pieces of cake were and was told, "I don't know. A normal size". Second bout of nasty customer service. After dinner we made our way to the front desk to demand a 2nd room. We were told that since the systems were down that they had no idea who was staying in what room and that they couldn't give us a 2nd room. That didn't sit well with us and we continued to demand a 2nd room. While we were talking with the front desk a fight breaks out in the lobby between a man and a taxi cab driver. The man goes up the stairs and the taxi cab driver chokes this man. This man begins to scream at the top of his lungs that the taxi driver needed to be arrested. We didn't know to run or what. The hotel sends out an unarmed female who is supposedly "security" but come to find out later was not. Finally, we got the room beside of us but again had to have the bell man take us to our room bc we didn't have a key for that room either. Day 2: We go down for breakfast and ask the front desk yet again if our keys were ready. Again, we were told that their systems were still down and to try back later. We headed down to the pool via bus yet again. The pool was green and the pool was aged and pieces were missing from the cement walls. Ducks were floating in the pool and it just really looked like it needed a TON of TLC. We grabbed a seat only to be eaten alive by the tiny pool bugs that hang around untreated water. The bar by the pool was okay. The drinks were watered down. After the sad pool experience we decided to have dinner at Shima, the Hibachi restaurant. We were ready for a great show. The waitress took our orders and as soon as that happened the power shut down. Completely BLACK. A good 30 minutes passes and they inform us that there will be no hibachi and that they would have to cook the food in the back. Another 15-20 minutes passes and our food arrives. The lights come back on only to be turned off for a 2nd time 15 minutes later. The food was mediocre at best. No wifi and no room key. Day 3: Come down for breakfast and was greeted by a sweet lady named Shirley. She was the sunshine to our day every day. Such a sweet, sweet lady. This day we went to the beach and paddle boarded. The activity man was super nice. He was very informative. After our legs tired from paddle boarding we headed back to the dilapidated green pool. We sat outside and had a nice day of arguing with Cheap Caribbean about flights and finding us a new hotel. That day was mostly filled with us arguing with Sugar Bay about the service and condition of the hotel and Cheap Caribbean about flights and moving us to another hotel. We ask to speak to the general manager, not there. Instead we speak to the front desk manager, Brittany. She is beyond rude and is genuinely unapologetic to any of our complaints. She is very dismissive and doesn't care about the guests at all. Still no room key to be had. No wifi still. Days 4 and 5 went the same way. Final Thoughts: DO NOT STAY HERE! Enough is enough. Power outage for the umteenth time. Non apologetic. No comps. Shirley was great as always and Brittany at the bar was awesome! Those are a few of the only awesome people at that resort. We finally checked out of "Nightmare Sugar Bay". I honestly felt like I was in prison. Many of the guests staying there thought the same way. This hotel is run down. There are holes on the outside of the cement. The doors are bubbling. It looks like an old hotel that just needs to be torn down. The rooms are like "lipstick on a pig". The room looks updated but it was clearly just thrown together. I will just say this one time and leave it here for you to decide if you want to stay at this run down hole in the wall hotel. Just when I got home and laid down I noticed that I had 100s of little tiny bites in clusters all over my body. BED BUGS!BED BUGS!

We got in fairly early on a Saturday, got our rental car, and drove to the resort which wasn't too far from the airport (St. Thomas is small). Check-in was at 4, the guy at the gate was very clear in his directions on how to find the main office. We found it and were able to check in successfully. Then they sent someone to show us where the condo is and help us get our luggage inside. He was also filled with suggestions on places nearby and recommended a couple of activities within a 1-mile radius. We thanked him, tipped him and explored the resort. The place was clean although it could have used a general update in some parts of the condo. The huge sliding glass doors boosted a beautiful view of the ocean and the neighboring island St. Johns as well as other land formations surrounding St. Thomas. They were kind enough to leave a birthday card and a full-sized bottle of rum to welcome us. We didn't drink the rum but it was a nice gesture. The condo we stayed at were up the highest hill which could make for a challenging climb after meal times if you're dining at their on-site restaurants. You could always drive offsite to Red Hook, a town with restaurants and some night life that is conveniently located only about 5 minutes away. I loved the veranda view of the condo we stayed at. You can feel the cool breeze while you relax, take in the scenery and have something cool to sip on. A vacationers dream! There is a small kitchen, a nice living room with comfy furniture, and a queen bed. The biggest complaint I have is that the air conditioning unit is restricted to the living room which means the bedroom is the hottest room in the condo making it hard to sleep at night sometimes. They did provide fans but it's not quite the same. If you sat on the dining room table, you're freezing to death from the air conditioning but the bedroom you would be sweating. There wasn't a nice balance of airflow. But we made do. The resort has 3 pools. One is located up the hill, maybe 3 condos and down a flight of stairs away from where we stayed. Another was by the nature trail/near Ocean 180 and the third is right above the Sun and Sea Bar. There's no gym but trust me, just go up and down the hills a couple of times a day and you'd get your fill of cardio. Of course, if that is not your jam, they do offer a ride if you call the office but only during office hours. There are taxis they can help you get as well. We did not use either of these services so I can't speak to it as we had a rental car. There are free parking for those staying at the resort and they do issue you a parking pass. The staff were very courteous and friendly. I can't say enough good things about them. If we ever find ourselves back here again, I would not hesitate to book this resort.

Got to the first entrance and the rude lady at the front said "wrong one, turn around and go that way" as she pointed her finger and rolled her eyes. Drive around and finally find the second entrance, get the check in booth and ask tell the lady our room info. It was VERY hard to understand her accent. We ask which direction and she points in a random direction. So we look around at the little room numbers on the building that we're not visible from the road. NONE of these numbers are in order. We had to get out and walk forever just to find our room, then it was at the very end and no parking available anywhere. Meanwhile the front lady knew which room we were going to, walked past us while it was visibly clear we didn't know where our room was, didn't offer assistance. Even when we asked she ignored us and kept walking. Got our bags out and had to pull them up two flights of stairs. Got into our room and it's just a straight walkway with a bathroom on the side, got the Motel 8 vibe. I immediately stub my foot on the base of the bed. Which by the way, the bed is WAY TO HIGH off the floor, if you roll off this queen bed you will get hurt. I'm 5'0 and had to have my husband push me on the bed. And the bed itself was so incredibly hard, the pillows flat too. I woke up with back pain after 7 hours of sleep. Fridge door is backwards and hits the counter top so the door doesn't open all the way. Oh and the pictures make it seem you can walk down to a beach area, no you absolutely cannot. It's a boat dock! View from the balcony is not great. This place needs a major renovation! Don't rent unit 212.

Sapphire Beach Resort on St. Thomas sits right on one of the island's prettiest stretches of sand…read moreSapphire Beach itself, that long, curving crescent of white with calm turquoise water perfect for snorkeling or just floating away the hours. It's got that secluded, east-end feel: far enough from the cruise-ship chaos of Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook that you can actually hear the waves instead of engines, and at night, with the right room, it's just you, the lady, the trade winds, and whatever mischief the darkness allows. Whatever happens at Sapphire stays at Sapphire no prying eyes, no judgment, just the kind of quiet romance that makes you forget the mainland exists. But let's not kid ourselves: this place has seen better decades. It's a condo-style resort with wear and tear showing in the rooms some units feel updated and decent, others lean toward faded Motel 6 vibes with dated fixtures, inconsistent maintenance, and that middle-of-the-road luxury tax that hits harder these days with inflation. You're paying a premium for direct beach access, pools, a marina, nearby spots like Sea Salt for a solid meal, and the privacy that seclusion brings, yet for a few extra bucks you could land something fresher and more polished elsewhere on the island. It's hit-or-miss depending on the unit you draw, and if you're on a tight budget, the value can feel stretched. Still, I've come back multiple times because that beach is iconic, the seclusion is a rare gift in the Virgins, and in the right light with a cold drink and no agenda it delivers exactly the kind of unpretentious escape that keeps pulling you back to these islands. If you're chasing flawless five-star polish, look elsewhere; if you want real, raw, beautiful imperfection with a side of solitude, Sapphire still has soul.

Thankfully they had noticeable security when we were there, but we didn't feel unsafe or sketched out at all, everyone was very friendly (which is something rare on the island in general). I understand that each unit is different, so I should be specific. We actually got an awesome rate on Airbnb (see: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/92043 ) and decided to go for it. I'd been to St. Thomas before but only on a cruise so I didn't realize how ehm... "sketchy" the island is. And that's an understatement. Rented a car and did nothing but get lost and get stuck driving on tiny winding terrifying streets in the ghetto for the first day. After that though, we were very glad we got it, there's plenty of parking everywhere you go, though you might pay a few bucks for it. With that said, we got 40% off with a Hertz coupon, so it was cheap. We also figured we'd find our own food to cook on the grill (big mistake). Markets are small and uncommon except Cost U Less (or something like that) down the street. Do yourself a favor and have the nice folks at P & P do your shopping. And when your bill is expensive, they're not ripping you off, bacon really is like $10. In any case, the private pool is awesome and it's very private so you can swim and tan nude all you want. Air conditioning works awesome, wi-fi was currently being installed while we were here, continental breakfast was decent, memory foam bed was SO COMFORTABLE, and the indoor/outdoor shower was straight up awesome. The bar has an awesome happy hour too but Red Hook (the better part of the island if you ask me) is right down the street as are two beautiful beaches. The only thing that will annoy you (probably anywhere on the island) is the constant cock-a-doodle-doo-ing of the native roosters. Other than that, get yourself a giant bottle of rum, a case of coke, and relax like we did and you'll be all set.

Look NO further!!!! We had the most relaxing vacation. Exactly what us moms needed. We had room 220 (2 double beds) and a fantastic view. Never needed to rush to the beach to find a spot. Always had a spot at the pool. We sat at the bar most of the time without a problem. Every staff member we met was so nice and friendly (007 is a total gem!!!) - please do not listen to the negative reviews!!! Treat them like people - say "good morning, how are you today?" and they will treat you like family. Ocean was so nice, not crystal clear like Sapphire or Linquist but clean and so nice. Pelicans were super fun to watch. We couldn't stop raving about this place every minute to one another. I was there this Saturday when they had an issue with their water. I want to say - I have never seen a place go above and beyond to make sure the guests were taken care of. I'm sure you all were freaking out but you did so good at mitigating a terrible situation!!! My best friend and I didn't even realize something was wrong till it came to dinner time. We got to our room with a gallon of water and multiple water bottles waiting for us. Dinner was a buffet (really great spread). The only really "problem" was it was our last night and we were really hoping to get more of the bang bang shrimp tacos (which are to die for!!). Guess we will have to come back for them. Only real "complaint" - the rooster could be a little quieter...it is vacation spot dude lol but nothing a sound machine couldn't muffle. He really wasn't so bad, I could always roll over and go right back to sleep. Thank you Bolongo and St. Thomas for your warm hospitality! We will 200000% be back.

We stayed in the Malibu Suite - the room was incredibly comfortable, had great air conditioning, and wasn't noisy at all when time to sleep. We loved the balcony outside - it had both a table and chairs as well as a "bed" swing - I'd call it a bench swing, but it was much larger than that and more than comfortable for two. We loved our daily breakfasts with them. They let you pick a breakfast time, and then set you up outside on the balcony so you can view the water while you eat. It is so relaxing and the food is both delicious and plenty to get your day started. It's also super conveniently located. We picked Red Hook and Two Sandals because it was right by the ferry dock to St John as well as centrally located to all the places we wanted to go while on the island. Very easy to call a taxi for pick up from here, but just check with them when calling to see if they'll drive up the hill or not - some taxis will expect you to meet them at the bottom of the hill. Highly recommend staying here while enjoying your time on St Thomas!

For an extra fee, they picked us up from the airport, which was awesome and made the start of our vacation stress free. The spot is close enough to walk to Red Hook (if you're adventurers like us) or a cheap taxi. Either way, you make it down within minutes, and they have EVERYTHING here - food, shops, and a ferry to St. John. It was the perfect spot. If you went the other way, it's a quick walk to Secret Harbor Beach, which, WOW. It's not crowded, white sand beaches, and beautiful sunsets. Highly recommend. The room was initially smaller than we anticipated, but it wasn't bad, especially since we were barely there. Very clean, quiet, and accommodating. The owners were always around, and always available by text for the best experience. I've seen a few reviews about no hot water, this isn't true, it just takes a few minutes to warm up. So don't listen to those. I saved the best for last. THE BREAKFAST. HOLY COW. It's home made, fresh, and SO delicious. We were allowed to check in 2 hours early, so that was a plus. The lobby is small but has cold water, a small lounge, a bathroom and an ATM. But no concierge (front desk person: "I don't know where she is--I haven't seen her in a long time.")--so had to figure out everything ourselves. They had a concierge contact us from one of their sister properties but she never texted back when I asked about a time to connect. Only one restaurant was open on Sunday when we arrived so we were barely in time to order before they closed. The dive shop was supposed to be open but was not. Even though we were advertised a late check-out, we only got 30 more minutes so stored our bags and went into town as they did not have guest showers on property to be able to enjoy the beach after we checked out. The room was nice, clean, and spacious for a studio king. The kitchenette had a blender, toaster, coffeemaker, small fridge, and cups/plates/silverware etc. Bathroom had towels, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, and lotion. Room had a safe. There was a dresser and end tables and a small table and chairs inside. On the balcony, there was a table and chairs and one chaise lounge chair. Each room has its own air conditioner. The property is built into a hill but relatively easily accessible (not ADA accessible but not crazy) despite the stairs. The grounds were well-maintained and the pool was a decent size and clean. At first I was not impressed with the beach because it was a bit rocky especially on one side and had lots of boats on the bay, but after touring four other properties on the island, I realized ours was the best we had seen. The lounge chairs are adequate and towels are provided both in your room and at the front desk. The shore is dotted with trees for natural shade if you want it. The water is clear but a bit rocky. The dive shop offers snorkels, boat rentals (kayaks, SUPs, and paddle boats), sand toys, sundries like sunscreen and tampons, and gear like hats and shirts and waterproof bags. They also offer snorkeling excursions departing from other nearby properties. Shout out to the attendant working the shop this week--he gave us great recommendations. No market or store on property--go into Red Hook (small nearby town) to the shops. Also, warning, you can't go to the glamorous property next door even to have lunch as they do not allow visitors on property. The two restaurants onsite were fine for our needs. One is pizza and sandwiches (Sangria's) and the other is more upscale (Caribbean Fish Market). But definitely recommend going into Red Hook to enjoy the local cuisine! I would recommend this hotel for a less expensive option than many competitors, especially if your party wants to go out and explore and do activities. The beach was the best we saw on the East End, and being close to Red Hook was a real plus. There are lots of options to take a boat road or the ferry to St. John and it's a pretty quick ride. If you want an immersive, pampered experience, this place isn't likely for you. But this is a good home base to enjoy all that USVI has to offer.

What is very interesting is that other dining options are still open around the island - it seems that Margaritaville is unique in that they were shut down. There was no where to get food within walking distance on site - I finally had to walk off of resort property to purchase chips at Louie's Market - pretty much a local 7/11 nearby, which I would not recommend. There is also only ONE place that delivers to the resort, per the concierge, Senor Pizza. I felt absolutely stranded. What really bothers me is that they did not tell me before checking in. They had my number, I had texted them the day before confirming my check-in time, but they could not warn me that there is no food or drinks on property. I felt completely misled and just stranded. Additionally, the beach is not usable at all. Seaweed is an issue on the island (especially the North and East); however, it appears the resort stopped attempting to control the problem. Then entire property smelled like rotting seaweed. I paid $977 per night for 2 nights. I spoke to extra holidays (what I booked through) that day and the resort and they were unwilling to give any refund. I tried to make it work but after waking up the next morning unable to find food or coffee within walking distance and smelling that awful seaweed smell, I had enough. We checked out and went to one of the many other resorts on the island with working beaches and open restaurants. Upon check-out, they did refund me for the night I was no longer staying; however refused to even give a slightly reduced rate for the first night. I cannot believe this resort charged me nearly $1,000 for one night with no nearby food or any semblance of an accessible beach. I also cannot believe how unhelpful staff was about this - hotel kept telling me there was nothing they could do about my charge, it was up to extra holidays. Extra holidays told me it was up to the hotel. I spent the first hours of my vacation being bounced back and forth and then had to hop in a cab for food. I understand we need to be flexible during COVID; however, I cannot believe I had no warning from the hotel and that they were so unwilling to recognize that they had no delivered any of the promised services other than a bed to adjust my rate. I am also very suspicious as to why only their restaurants and bars were shut down. We moved to the Ritz Carlton the next day and had a lovely experience. They have the same seaweed problem but are actively clearing it off of the beach each day. All of their restaurants are also open, they are restricting restaurants only to hotel guests and not permitting anyone to wait at a bar (need to sit an be served a drink, which they do very quickly). I am willing to spend on these trips as long as I can trust the brand. I have learned from this not to trust Wyndham/ Margaritaville.
