So my mom has been getting her gel nails done for over 20 years and she used to get them done in a woman's house. Since moving to Edmonton a few years ago, we haven't found anyone who does an awesome job in their home but we like the idea of that versus a chain nail place. So we did lots of research and Sugar and Spice Nails looked like a perfect fit! I will start with the pros. Her space is very clean. It looks like she put work into it and it's professional looking. She also has every single product you could ask for. My mom and I first went to see her on Halloween night and I got my nails done (gel polish - chrome, gems) and it took around 2 hours. It was quite long but they did look nice. I know some people love being pampered while getting their nails done but personally I don't like sitting for that long. So she started removing my mom's nails which she got done at binhs and she was very disgusted by the product and refused to put her products on my mom's nails till they healed. She wasn't very talkative but we both don't know each other so I understood. We agreed it was best to wait and booked again 3 weeks later. Our appointment was at 9am and we started walking up to her door at 8:56. She text me saying, "I see you! I won't be ready till 9." So we waited outside till 9. I didn't think we were early and I've never experienced that before. She let us in and didn't greet us right away. It was kind of awkward because we are in her home and want to feel comfortable. My mom went first because it was gonna take longer. She wanted coffin shaped gel nails with a blue colour. (She did want some gems but she never asked this time). She took over 3 hours on my mom's nails and she complained that it was because my mom was very stiff. She said she was the stiffest client she's ever had and kept rolling her eyes and shaking her arm out through the whole process. (She also did not talk at all unless it was to complain about my mom's hands) It was very uncomfortable. My mom has been getting her nails done for years and has never been told she is the hardest client they've ever worked on??? You could tell she was visibly annoyed about how long my mom's nails took and after she was done she expressed to us she had to go take a pain pill. She could've kept that to herself instead of trying to make the client feel bad. I was so upset at this point I didn't even want to get my nails done but my mom convinced me to. Mleft to her vehicle and I started to get my gel polish off. She then said to me, "see, your fingers are flexible. Your mom was like working on a dead body." SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE. She also told me that because of my mom she had to cancel her other clients. What was I supposed to say? I was furious at this point and starving because I didn't think we would take so many hours so my hands were shaking and she kept telling me it was making it hard for her. I couldn't control it and it made me feel bad YET AGAIN. So finally she was done and it was time to pay. A week before our appointment she changed her prices for the holidays but when it was time to pay she looked at me like I was an alien and we had to pay the normal prices PLUS a charge for shaping my mom's nails. I'm sorry but isn't that literally your job? When I got home I discovered she took all her price change posts off and I couldn't find them. I expressed my experience with other people here in Edmonton and apparently this is not the first time she has treated people like this!!!! I am very upset still and she made me feel extremely uncomfortable. read more
