I hopped over there on a break to bring a six-pack home with me to NC. :-) I selected Pistachio, Chocolate Espresso , Coconut, and Chocolate Birthday Cake today. Can't wait to get them home and NOT share hahahaha. The bar for superior Macarons is too high to meet anywhere else! And I mean ANYwhere. You MUST try Cafe Genevieve in Norfolk's waterside area!

They participated in the Cocoa Wars in Norfolk last year and they did a sipping chocolate inspired by a café in Paris called Angelina and it was soooooo good. Too bad they can't keep that on the daily, but I have had their regular hot chocolates and they don't cut corners. Made with real milk, just the way it should be. They also have other things to drink like lemonades sourced from France to keep on theme. - Noms - Macarons (only one "o") - they specialize in these little delightful sandwich cookies. I've tried almost all the flavors, my fave being the Nutella and red velvet. I know, I know, I just really love chocolate! So call me cocoa! Haha, see what I did there?! They've recently added other baked goods to their offerings like the pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant) and other pastries. I've also had their Petit Pot (which is like a rich pudding). - TLC - The service here is always so welcoming and they truly hire the nicest people. It's like visiting friends rather than a business. They will always make sure to make it to your liking. You can find them at farmers markets on weekends, and they also provide their macarons to local businesses like Aux Delices (In Newport News) and Rich Port Coffee. Enjoy, Friends!

Back in town for JeepFest & our hotel's breakfast wasn't all that so when I mentioned to bestie…read morethat I would be hunting down a pastry while her and my godson were on their first beach cruise Saturday morning she asked me to wait so they could join me. I already knew this was my destination as I had been following them since they opened in VB. Upon our arrival we found the Cafe about a 1/4th of the way full so I had hopes for breakfast in a quiet setting. Even though there was a steady flow of traffic, we were able to dine in a relaxed setting without feeling rushed. I mention this because with it being a holiday weekend full of Jeepers, I fully expected them to be packed. The wait to order was too long as it left me staring at the pastry window so long I almost ordered one of everything however; I refrained from doing so but still bought 4 pastries, French toast & seasoned potatoes. Yes yes, alot of food for 1 person but I still had 2 days left in my visit and well, I have a thing for pastries. The pastries were: mango & passion fruit eclair, a pineapple muffin, lemon raspberry cake & profiteroles. I loved everything with the exception of the eclair. It wasn't anything against the eclair, it's just the mango/passionfruit mixture was just too passionate for my tastes. The muffin reminded me of my own homemade upside pineapple cake without all the brown sugar. It was light and buttery. The Lemon raspberry slice was delightful & not the least bit tart or too sweet. A mixture of both flavors without either one overpowering the other. The cake was super moist, perfect. The profiteroles were my favorite. They reminded me of that feeling I had the 1st time I tasted them while living in Italy. The choux perfectly baked and so delightfully light. The French toast was good enough without the side of syrup. The star for me of the breakfast items were the potatoes. I LOVED them. They were served HOT, seasoned just right with their insides softer that a baby bottom. I coulda just ordered 2 servings of those & bypassed the toast. All in all, well worth the wait. The folks were friendly, the Cafe clean and the seating plentiful and comfortable. I would recommend this place for both pastries & French toast & spuds.

When I saw my favorite Kouign Amann I was overjoyed because these are my absolute favorite laminated dough baked good and they are almost impossible to find in the States. My favorite bakery in Miami, Florida stopped offering them during the pandemic and never put it back on their menu. Anyway, it was delicious and I bought the last three!!!!! My husband, son and daughter in law each got a personal pizza and really liked them. As my daughter in law will be attending ODU we already made a pact that she would bring home Kouign Amanns every time I come into town to visit them!

I especially love the ham and Gruyère croissant and even ordered them to be served for my birthday last year. The service is efficient and kind and the atmosphere is super chill. I love stopping here when I'm in the area and want a pick me up. My most recent visit I decided to take my friend here after we grabbed coffee at Fr8 house a few minutes away. We opted to get a whole pizza and went for the Brisket and Blue which had fresh mozzarella, gorgonzola, smoked beef brisket, basil, pickled red onion, and green chili jam. The pizza was incredible. It had a great bite, slightly crispy, super savory with a touch of sweetness and the brisket was the savory star of the show. I added a bit of red pepper flake and it took it from a 9 to a 9.5 dare I say 10. I highly recommend checking this bakery out whether it's something as simple as a cookie or croissant or the whole pizza. There is something for everyone.

My brother-in-law got the pineapple upside down cake. It's one of his favorite cakes and he's had it from the Scratch Bakery in the past. He said that it just wasn't the same. My sister had the brownie topped with walnuts and icing, she said it had no taste. It lacked the chocolate smell, and she was right when I tasted it it was kind of bland. The best description would be it tasted brown. My niece bought the cupcakes. Other than being dry, the triple strawberry cupcake was OK, but the wedding cake cupcake was "tainted" with an overwhelming almond flavor, so much so you could smell it. Lastly, I had the sourdough pound cake, which also had the overwhelmingly almond flavor. It was dry, and the butter flavor was completely missing. I live in New Jersey, where there are wonderful diners that serve delicious desserts, and my favorite go to dessert is German chocolate cake. I was sorely disappointed when I found it was only one layer topped with the German chocolate cake coconut icing. The icing was OK but the cake was gummy and it lacked the extra coconut in the batter and there were no nuts or nut flavoring in the in the cake part. I found the prices to be a bit high, we spent probably close to $65 on these desserts. The ambience was cute and inviting, and the service was great. I think they need to rework some of their recipes, or maybe use better ingredients.
