Café Genevieve (CG) is a great addition to Selden Market (SM). They were one of the tenants who moved in last year and it's definitely one of my stops when I make my rounds in SM. - Sips - I've had so many different drinks, but my got-tos are iced mochas, hot mochas, and hot chocolates. They participated in the Cocoa Wars in Norfolk last year and they did a sipping chocolate inspired by a café in Paris called Angelina and it was soooooo good. Too bad they can't keep that on the daily, but I have had their regular hot chocolates and they don't cut corners. Made with real milk, just the way it should be. They also have other things to drink like lemonades sourced from France to keep on theme. - Noms - Macarons (only one "o") - they specialize in these little delightful sandwich cookies. I've tried almost all the flavors, my fave being the Nutella and red velvet. I know, I know, I just really love chocolate! So call me cocoa! Haha, see what I did there?! They've recently added other baked goods to their offerings like the pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant) and other pastries. I've also had their Petit Pot (which is like a rich pudding). - TLC - The service here is always so welcoming and they truly hire the nicest people. It's like visiting friends rather than a business. Such a cute spot located inside Selden Market. The attention to detail in the decor is impressive. French and pastels seemed to be the theme. They also have a little bit of seating inside and just slightly out of the entrance. The macarons tasted good. Not my absolute favorite, but pretty good. The size also seems to be bigger... no complaint. Or maybe my hands were smaller that day. The staff was so helpful. They were able to describe each flavor. I opted for the 757 deal they had going on in the month of November. I was able to get 6 macarons for $7.57. My husband also used his check in on Yelp to participate. So we were able to try all the flavors. The flay were kinda unique too. One was the chocolate covered strawberry. Overall a cute little place. Its an adorable little restaurant with a French feel and decor... There are several flavors of macaroons, scones, puddings, cake, coffee and other things. They all looked delicious. I got a 6pk which was $15. I had pistachio, butter pecan, fruity pebbles, and vanilla bday... My mom had peach and lavender vanilla. They were all good the fruity pebbles was my fav. The butter pecan was my least fav. It had a weird after taste. I wasn't a fan at first, but once i refrigerated them i liked them better. My mom loved the peach one. It was very peachy... The decor definitely made me feel like I was at French Café - bon appetit! They have 4 macaroon flavors (pumpkin, chocolate, pistachio, and lavender vanilla) and a variety of coffees and teas. While walking through Selden Market to pick up complimentary treats from S'Mores Amore, my girlfriend and I walked to this new business that's new to the area. They serve homemade macarons along with cake, coffee and other treats. We both picked Lavender Vanilla (my girlfriend is a sucker for lavender) and Coffee macarons. I gotta say with each bite, you can definitely taste the flavor like they were described. Very tasty and as always, very airy. I definitely wanted more but with three bites for each, I can say we were pretty satisfied. Not bad for a first time considering I love going to small dessert spots. We weren't looking for Cafe Genevieve when we stumbled upon it, but I am so very glad that we did. I was even more delighted to find out that this adorable little shop doesn't out source their macarons - they are made right there in the establishment!!!! How awesome! I am a macaron SNOB & these macs were fresh, with wonderful flavor & beautiful "feet" on their shell. I was in Heaven. I bought a half dozen ( 2 pistachio, 1 birthday cake, 1 butter pecan, 1 coffee, 1 strawberry)... & I should have bought more!!! Haha The cookies are priced pretty fair (you can almost NEVER find a macaron under $2.50 due to the ingredients & how tedious it is to make them). Ordered 3 drinks 2 of them were not good. The coffees that's hould have been flavored were not. They have a "vie en rose" that's supposed to be strawberry and rose flavored it didn't have a hint of either just tasted like old coffee. The other flavor almond raspberry also not a hint of either flavor. The girl seems less than enthused to be helping us. The macarons were ok some had the flavor advertised some didn't really and the way it crumbled when you bit into it it had a strange texture. The chai tea was also ok. Note: I didn't say the coffee wasn't sweet enough i don't need sweet coffee. I said it was advertised as a flavor and it didn't have a hint of any flavor advertised just tasted like old coffee and the cup was also stained like the coffee was spilled not wiped messy presentation. I can understand a bad day. But please don't tell me that it was bad because I'm used to torani syrups that's disrespectful. If you advertise a flavor it should at least have a hint of the flavor it didn't. read more

This is an adorable little French-themed shop in Selden Market. Parking is a little precarious to reach anything in Downtown Norfolk for me. But it ended up worth it! Café Genevieve offers coffee, tea, macarons (their specialty) and other rotating baked goods. The decoration is so cute in this shop. It stands out amongst all of the other shops. There is seating where you can enjoy tasty coffee drinks and baked goods. And the service is great. The girl who helped us was sooo nice. I took advantage of the $7.57 deal this visit, and also got a caramel macchiato for my sister. Omg. These cookies really pack some authentic flavor. I did strawberry chocolate, chocolate, crème brûlée, red velvet, lavender vanilla, and pumpkin spice. They were all very true to their name. I can tell they are all naturally flavored and handcrafted carefully. My favorite was the pumpkin spice. It tasted just like a pumpkin pie. The lovely Genevieve was behind the counter and she offered me a sample of some of their delicious macarons. I tried the summer berry and found it delightful. I was immediately greeted by the young lady working and she gave me some pointers on which options were her favorite and what would work best for my tastebuds. I was able to try some of the tasters available. I was able to select types of French macaroons from vanilla to pumpkin. I also was able to purchase a blood orange lemonade from Paris!!!! Getting to the location was very easy, but expect to pay for parking if you are coming on weekends, during week day I was able to find street parking. Getting to the location you see a lot of vendors, and it's very nice to walk around. I was able to spot the Cafe right away, and I was greeted with excellent costumer service. The Cafe does remind me of a French place, and it's very cool to take pictures at. I've only had two of the 12 macarons so far (churro and watermelon) and I'm incredibly impressed with the flavor! The churro flavor captured exactly what a churro tastes like, not just the cinnamon sugar but the dough itself. We went while they were doing a Harry Potter happy birthday and unfortunately they were sold out of their sorting hat macarons but I did have an iced butterbeer latte that was tasty. I walked in to buy a man a coffee and croissant and the women working there today at 9 am called security on him and came up to me afterwards to stress that she was uncomfortable because he was "talking to himself" and stated "it's cool to do that kind of thing, but don't leave "them" in there." Her whole demeanor was uncomfortable, disrespectful and unacceptable while ordering. The man was harmless it's cold out, and he just wanted to drink and eat as a paying customer should be able too.
