Got our sushi to-go so can't speak much about the service. But I'm sure glad we didn't make plans to dine-in because there was a loud group (the only other people there) and they were smoking, which for me is a no-no, when it comes to eating indoors. Came for lunch. They have $6 specials but you are better off ordering from a Chinese restaurant. I ordered the shrimp hibachi with fried rice. The fried rice was cold in parts but hot in others. The waitress heated it up in 30 seconds so I'm guess it went in the microwave which is where it probably started off at. Once I got my plate back, I tried the vegetables I noticed they were cold too. I don't understand how you can have cold vegetables with hibachi??? Highly disappointed in the food quality. The atmosphere seems nice at first, but once you look a little closer it is pretty dirty. This place has white seat backs which are covered in dirt. The bathrooms were dirty and we were one of the first customers of the day. They opened at 2 and we were there slightly after. I've been here a couple years ago and the quality/service was a lot better. Save yourself the trouble and try somewhere else. read more

Terrible. Waiter was doing his best, very nice guy but the whole experience was entertaining!! The manageress mid meal started really telling off one of her staff, right next to our table!! AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. Truly terrible. I am extremely lenient when it comes to rating restaurants but this place was absolutely terrible. I would give 0 stars if I could. Went to hang out at the bar and eat around 9:30 last night. We were seated quickly and our waiter Charles was extremely friendly and attentive but it all went down hill from there. First, we were told that we couldn't order any liquor because there was a private party on the back deck. I guess the bartenders haven't been trained to handle a crowd? Or maybe they were just being lazy because they knew they would have a good night due to the party. Regardless, totally unacceptable. Next, we received our first round of beers and were told immediately that we couldn't order anything more to drink because of the private party. Last time I checked private party didn't mean private bar. Finally, as we were sitting and enjoying the ONE round of drinks we were allowed, a woman came over, snatched the two candles and ash trays from our table, and said "we need these for the private party." HORRIBLY RUDE. As we looked around, we noticed several empty tables that had candles and ash trays yet she needed to take ours for some reason. We then watched as she brought our candles and placed them on the deck railing at least 10 feet away from anyone at the private function (which by the way only had a total of 12 people). Overall, this was by far the worst service I have ever received. Before visiting Sugami, I wouldn't have even been able to fathom the disrespect and disregard displayed by all of the employees (except for Charles who was wonderful) as possible. I will never go here again. If you want sushi, go to King Kong. And if you want to drink, go anywhere else in Myrtle Beach. read more

Such good sushi! Everything is so fresh and they are happy to customize rolls for picky eaters like me. The service was amazing and so accommodating. Nothing about this dinner went according to plan. After making a reservation for myself and 3 others for hibachi, and arriving a few minutes early we were told that we would have to wait at least 40 minutes for hibachi as they took a different party before us...? Seeing as we had a discount, our party decided to stay and just get kitchen food. Bad idea. The so-called hibachi chicken and shrimp was FAR from it...it was hunks of chicken swimming in some sort of chicken and broccoli type sauce not what I was expecting. Furthermore, there were nerves on some of the pieces of chicken, way to kill an appetite. It didn't end there either. It took at least 20 minutes for our waitress to come back after we paid our bills (our credit cards were just sitting by the computer the whole time...with no one watching them). AND, when I checked my credit card balance later that night they had charged me twice, one for 3 times the amount of what my bill actually was. Save yourself the trouble, don't come here. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. My wife and I rolled in here and we're a little unsettled by the dated and dirty decor. The food made up for it. Ate here 9 years ago and loved their calamari so we drove around until we found it since we couldn't remember the name. To our disappointment the calamari was not the same but it was still good! We decided to eat here due to everything else being a two hour wait(while on vacation during Fourth of July week). I have eaten at many small, hole in the wall restaurants that are fantastic, so I thought we would give it a shot. First off I noticed that my shoes stuck to the floor as we walked back to the 3 hibachi grills they have. It went downhill from there. The sushi was inedible. The miso looked like muddy water. The ranch dressing on the salad was thin as water. As was the shrimp sauce. The rice was so gummy it stuck together. They ran out of fillet and substituted some other cut to fill our order. ( with no discount on price). Not to forget the dirty plate and fork. If I could do it over I would wait 2 hours for the hook and barrel. read more

This is honestly the best food that I have ever eaten. I mean that...it is not an exaggeration. Inside looked like a fancy lounge/bar with loud music. I wanted quiet that night, so I ate outside, which was peaceful and I was not able to hear the music from inside out there. The outside was deceptive because it did not look fancy at all, especially compared to the lavish interior, but the food was incredible. It cost the same as a low-budget restaurant, but was the most delicious food that I ever had. I recommend the fish combos and the cantonese rice. The seared tuna was beautiful too! I went there before new management took over, but I hope they kept the same cooks. I ate there on a sunday at midnight. I don't know how food that good can actually exist! If I lived nearby, I would eat there every week. read more

I hate to even do this for you because I know the owner who runs the bar and they make an excellent drink and bartenders are very personable and I just love the owner . But The worst Japanese Restaurant Sushi in town. Which is very sad and I'm not normally one to do a review or make a complaint especially publicly. However I ordered vegetable lo mein and it came with no vegetables in it.. not one not even one slice of carrot or anything. Also my friend ordered Sushi which was extremely small and mostly just cream cheese for $15. And I didn't even realize until I left that they did not even bring me my soup when they brought my friend her salad.. Never got my soup that I ordered. So there's like four things that were kind of unacceptable and ruined our dining experience. This restaurant has been open for many years and I have been there many ,many times and the sushi used to be a lot larger and better quality... We were the only car in the parking lot at dinnertime ,during Bike Week even . One of our busiest weeks of the year, and we are the only car in the parking lot at dinnertime and we realized after we left why we were the only customers . I will still go there and have a good drink and enjoyed the owner of the bar but the food has really really gone down hill .. they did give us a discount but I did not go in there for a discount I went in there for a great dinner and did not get one.. not even close. And it made me feel awkward to have to tell them that there was no vegetables in the vegetable lo mein there's no Seafood in the sushi ,mostly cream cheese ,and who knows what's in or not in the soup because they didn't even bring it. bad service bad food. ordered take out. did not get what we ordered: ordered shrimp spring roll: got burnt vege roll. pad thai was a zero.Crispy Dragon Tuna roll was limp and wet from some jesus mayonaise sauce they gooped all over it. Called when arrived at hotel. Bartender (who is the manager) denied she was. Waited inside 20 minutes for order. Bartender was VERY LOUD AND ARROGANT and chummy with her friends while we waited 20 minutes. My girlfriend and I were in town for the Country Music Festival, last weekend and we decided to stop and have dinner and drinks, we both love Sushi. So it was a win for both of us, so I thought. Charles was our server, the sushi was excellent, my hibachi dinner was decent, I've had better, my girlfriend loved all the specialty drinks that our bartender made her. I on the other hand was was made to feel slightly uncomfortable from our server as the meal continued. He made several inaporiate comments to me and my girlfriend. Such as, how did she ever get a guy like Me. Basically telling Her to her face that she wasn't worthy of man like me. I was shocked due to the fact that we were the only table in there. When I asked for a manager he told me that, "one was not available and they can not speak good English anyways". I was to embarrassed to tell the only other employee, the bartender what was going on. Long story short, I will never go back to this place again. I thought I was in a casual dining restaurant not Dicks Last Resort. The service was horrible...The waitress screwed the order up and argued with us when we tried to explain it was wrong. I had to walk our salad plates to the bar to clear are table for room for the sushi. We had to wait 30 minutes for our salads to even come and when I asked the waitress when they were coming she apologized and stated they had to make them (yeah I know that much) To top it off they wouldn't take off the roll we didn't even eat that they screwed up on but gave 10% off which I would have received anyway for being a local. When I asked for management the wait staff said the bartender was the manager so when I asked if she was the manager she stated she wasn't that the owners were behind the sushi bar. So when I asked the lady if she was the owner she said she wasn't she was the manager which I'm pretty sure was a lie. I have never seen such poor customer service and it was very frustrating trying to resolve a problem when none of the employees spoke great English. I will never go back and I wouldn't recommend anyone else go either. Soho has the same food with way better service. read more
