First, the restaurant is loud and crowded. The seating is along the wall and the tables are too far from the seats. See my photo... You will see that everyone has several inches between their backs and the back of the seat. Perhaps some pillows would help solve this issue but the restaurant has none available. The sushi was hit and miss. We likes what was good but we found some of the tuna to be fishy. We left 25% of our food over because it was unpleasant. Service was great and the decor is beautiful. Unfortunately, we'll look elsewhere next time we crave sushi. read more

There are not enough adjectives to describe how fantabulous this sushi was! I'm from Charleston, so have experienced some delicious sushi. This is the finest I've ever had in the state of South Carolina! My cousin from Florida also loves to eat sushi. He said it was the best sushi he's ever had anywhere! We were in town one Saturday night in June for a concert and wanted to try the local sushi. I asked Reddit for some good options and Koi was the winner. The setting was dark and quiet, which we enjoyed. Our server was excellent and helped me get my sushi just the way I wanted it (minimal/light rice). It did not take long for our rolls to come. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was out-of-this-world. So fresh and delicious. I didn't even have to use wasabi, which I usually have to use to offset the fishiness of some rolls. I didn't have to use much soy sauce either. I ordered the Mount Fuji Roll, the Kung Fu Roll and a spicy tuna roll, while my cousin ordered a Geisha Roll and a spicy tuna. The food, the service and the ambiance all made for such a wonderful time, that I am torn between going back again or just remembering it for its perfection! Be sure to bring cash since they do charge a credit card fee. They also have clean bathrooms and ample parking. It was totally worth the two-hour drive. Sure wish they'd open a Koi down here! read more

Dined here for my daughter's birthday this past Saturday night and we enjoyed our dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. The Hokkaido scallop sashimi was delicate and delicious. The crunch of the caviar combined beautifully with the mild soft scallops. The pork tonkatsu was crunchy and delicious but the curry broth could've been thicker so the fried pork could keep its crunch longer. The kung fu roll was delicious and plentiful. The futomaki roll was enjoyed by my sister until on the last piece she found a stem or stick of some kind in the roll. We thought it might have been an avocado stem? I pointed it out to the waitress and she stated she'd let the chef know. We also got no recognition for it being my daughter's birthday despite including it in the reservation as well as advising the waitress when we ordered our drinks. The waitress was super sweet though and we liked the food aside from the stem. I would give it a 3.5 but rounding up since the waitress went out of her way to find out the name of the movie playing on their big screen for my sister who was interested in it. I wouldn't go back to celebrate a birthday though. read more

Get here early for dinner and you'll practically have the place to yourself for a bit. The dim lighting adds to the experience by making the space perfect for dinner with a partner or place to celebrate an accomplishment. The prices are very reason for the portions, especially for Myrtle Beach. Everything was delicious! I'm vegetarian but the friends I went with ordered the duck fried rice as an appetizer and couldn't stop raving about it. So when we arrived at the restaurant, I arrived a little bit late my boyfriend and his brother and his brother's wife have already ate, and my boyfriend has already asked for a drink three times the same drink, and they still never brought it to him so I asked again. They never brought it again and he already had a drink on the table and he checked the expiration date and it was expired by a year technically two years because tonight is New Year's absolutely ridiculous. They told us they were fully booked for the evening, but the place was completely empty inside, so we sat at the bar and ordered a 10oz sake to share while we waited. The staff was very friendly but slightly confused about the sake menu. We ordered: Crispy Tuna Rice, Otoro upcharged sushi, King Salmon upcharged sushi, Spicy Tuna classic roll, California classic roll, Shrimp Tempura classic roll, Spicy Crab classic roll. The menu is a quad fold that surprises you by the hefty weight when you pick it up. The reason is quickly clear it is not only bound in leather but also lights up from behind when opened! I started with the most perfect truffle miso soup. The attendant (Bella) asked if I would like some heat / spicy - well of course why not! It was an orchestral moment on my tongue. Best miso I have ever had! Then I moved on to the smoked salmon roll , excellent the only mis-step was the soy sauce and requisite small dish arrived after I finished this roll. No matter it was solid. The next roll was a Chilean Roll it melted in your mouth! Quality experience with the best tasting ikura (roe) on top. It was well after 10pm on Saturday night and the clientele kept coming in waves. It's refreshing to have a go to spot open till midnight. I plan on being back many times. read more

Loved the food, ambience and the service was awesome! Even in a short area power outage they were awesome! We had cute lights on our table, so my sister and I could still eat our salads and have our drinks which they didn't charge us for. Also, we loved the music and the movie clips on the big screen. We went this evening for dinner, everything was fantastic. We started with the toro tower amazing. Both my friend and I had the Chillean Sea Bass, outstanding the flavors that accompanied the Sea Bass blended well, my husband and her husband had the Wagu beef and they both stated the same delicious. Our server who unfortunately I did not get her name was very attentive and service was 5 stars. Prices were very reasonable and food was plentiful and fresh. I didn't know how this restaurant has any bad reviews and as far as prices very reasonable for what you are serve. Decor and atmosphere again 5 stars, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back. read more

Food was absolutely amazing we loved everything including desserts. The saketini was awesome but we did not care for the dessert drinks. Our waitress was sweet but clueless. It's a small place has maybe 14 tables plus the bars, it's really nice inside however the atmosphere is more club like with the high tables and loud music, and we were still hungry after we ate , portions are small for the price. We will possibly go back and hopefully get a better waitress next time , had our waitress been better that would have elevated the whole experience -she didn't know much about the menu, she placed my moms food down on the table then reached her arm across my moms food to put my plate down instead of walking to the other side of the small table. read more

I took my husband to Koi for his birthday because I saw they had an Omakase and I was soooo excited. Making a reservation was easy enough and the atmosphere was a little dark but still pleasant. To me personally, the omakase was misrepresented because it just came out like a sushi boat which isn't what a traditional omakase is supposed to be. Also we ordered two omakase when delivered to the table there was only one serving of uni which was disappointing because everything else was mirrored. The quality of the ingredients was very good but overall it wasn't the concept we were actually looking for. The cocktail I had was good but a little pricey. I would go back to try something from the regular menu but I don't think the dinner we had that night was worth the price. read more

Wow, it was really as bad as we have been hearing around town. *Environment very clubby with loud music. *The prices are steep For what you actually get. *The food was the worst part. We started with the Toro Tower and then had Bluefin Tuna, King Salmon, and Otoro sushi. Followed by Mt Fuji Roll and Koi Roll. Nothing was exactly spectacular or really made us say WOW. Mediocre sushi at best. Bartender was very friendly but had zero knowledge of any of the sake or beer. He kept using the excuse, They just threw me in here I don't know. Too many staff members crowded around the host stand. Funniest part was almost every party at the bar asked for hot sake, which weirdly enough for a sushi restaurant they do not have. read more

From the moment we walked in, we were impressed. Greeted right away, seated quickly, drinks were brought out at perfect timing. The waitress had a recommendation for the Empress which was sooo good. Our waitress Sydney was great! Empty plates never sat on the table, someone, sometimes not our server, quickly removed them.
