Catfish & Grits

Today I went with family to visit the new restaurant. We usually dine family style, so we ordered the fried green tomatoes, catfish & grits, peach jalapeño wings, plain pancakes, banana foster pancakes, turkey bacon, French toast with fresh strawberries, toast, and blackened salmon & grits. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get pictures of everything. There was a bit of a wait on our food but I attribute that to them being a new restaurant. The fried green tomatoes were our favorite, followed by the grits entrees. We did feel like they could use a little more flavor and wouldn't recommend the pancakes! They were just granted their liquor license so no mimosas yet, but soon. The hostess and server were and provided good service. The ambiance was nice and clean! There is a 90 minutes table limit. Thanks Destiny for the great service!

The pastries at Sweet Ride looked irresistable so we stopped there. I got a little bit of sticker shock when they told me how much I owed them for one cupcake and one eclair -- $9 (each was $4.50). We probably would've skipped it if we'd realized how pricy they were. The cupcake was incredibly decadent and delicious (encased in a milk chocolate shell, inside were a layer of whipped cream and layer of chocolate ganache atop a moist and delicious cupcake). The custard in the eclair was overly rich and the dessert itself too chilled to be especially enjoyable. On a future visit, I'd split the decadent cupcake two ways and skip the eclair.

The tartare was fresh and unique with lots of greens, and the sourdough toast paired nicely. The cacio e pepe was a standout, we loved it so much we each ordered a second. The carrot cake cannoli was creative and delicious, a fun twist on dessert. Drinks were also a highlight, my brother especially loved the house-made limoncello. Valet parking is available, and reservations are definitely recommended.

GOOD GOD. Best…read morepotatoes I've ever put in my mouth. Period. I will be dreaming of the potatoes frittos every day until I return to eat them again, and every day after that. They are fried to crispy PERFECTION, coasted with some enchanted salty stuff, plus fried rosemary, and the dip they come with has a hint of lemon and it all just works fabulously. I can't get over how much I enjoyed them. I expected my egg yolk ravioli to be runny, as the server indicated, but the folks were fully cooked. Maybe that's the intent and it was just false advertising? My friend enjoyed her butternut pasta dish. The cocktail/mocktail list here is fire. I don't think you can go wrong. I literally cannot WAIT to come back and try more of their menu! I am so impressed with Mad Nice!!

Located near Michigan & Trumbull in Corktown, it's a great spot for both social gatherings or solo visits. The staff is friendly and efficient. The affogato lives up to the hype. Not only does it satisfy a sweet tooth, it's also a nice pick-me-up. The gelato flight is a great option for sharing. $17 may seem steep, but it's cheaper than ordering multiple individual cups. Of the five flavors I've tried, the pistachio is my favorite. Momento also offers baked goods and sorbet. I've had the lemon and raspberry sorbets, and personally prefer the lemon. While the baked goods are outsourced, the croissant I had was delicious. I've also tried the lemonade. It was too sour for my liking, though I'm hoping it was just an off batch. There are also some savory options, like breakfast sandwiches and paninis, I plan on trying one day. In the few times my family and I have been to Momento, we've always left happy. Gelato isn't especially common in the Metro Detroit area, so having a solid spot like this in one of the city's most happening neighborhoods shouldn't be taken for granted.
