Dined in for a large party of 10 people. The staff were pretty accommodating and nice. The stars of the show were the hummus, falafel and cherry rice (that I tried). I've never had cherry rice before and it definitely surprised me (a little acidic, sweet and a surprise bite). The grilled shrimp platter was disappointing as it's served with a mountain of basmati rice. The shrimp was inconsistently cooked with many of the protein overcooked and dry. The dish was supposed to come in a lemon garlic sauce and there was no sauce incorporated on my dish. Eating plain rice and grilled shrimp with no other things to accompany it left my palette and mouth very dry. Please use sauce heavily in this dish and pair it with veggies and take out a serving of rice. This will make the meal so much more balanced and tasty. The upstairs gets extremely hot so please ask the team to adjust the temperature if you become uncomfortable. read more

Excellent food. Our group of 4 all enjoyed our entrees. The appetizers are plentiful with enough to share. We were there on a crowded Sunday afternoon. And it looks like multiple parties upstairs, service was painfully slow. But all our entrees were delicious. Still very good, still reasonably priced, easy parking in the back lot. This time I had the Falafel Platter with add-on Grilled Vegetables. If you see my photo, the falafels are bigger than hockey pucks and come with tahini sauce (but I got extra). The falafels are fresh, soft and tasty, not over spiced, and work well with the thick tahini sauce. To their left was a grilled white onion and red pepper. On the right was a large wad of humus with a crater full of chopped red onion and tomato (like bruchetta without the bread), and on the top right was more grilled vegetables including mushrooms. All very good. They put out warm sliced pita bread for the table. There were five of us and we all enjoyed our dishes ... not a single complaint. Courteous service, large round table by the front window looking out on Merrick Road. Stopped by for lunch and a decent meal. They have a lunch special where you get a soup and entree for $20. I had the lentil soup to start and wasn't a big fan of it. The soup was very watery. The salmon kebab for lunch with rice was lovely. Salmon cooked perfectly and rice was light and perfect palate cleanser. The baklava for dessert wasnt crispy and they seem like they might microwave it. Not the best baklava I have had. This is one of our reliable local go-tos. You may need a reservation on weekend nights as it has been notably busy after the reopening. Service is prompt and staff is consistently friendly and helpful. All of the kebab dinners are excellent (I especially enjoy the salmon, chicken and lamb kebabs) as are the salads (especially the shirazi) and soups. Having lived in Turkey as a teen, I was excited to eat at this restaurant which classifies as Turkish food. Cousin indulged in Persian Tea, which was nice, and we did the Sigara Borek for an app. Just as I remembered. I opted for the Jujeh Kebab lunch (cornish hen) with a side of tabouli salad, and cousin went for the Salmon Shish Kebab with tabouli as well. Tasted her salmon and it was perfectly done - not overcooked, which is so common lately (don't ask me why). I loved my cornish hen, and the tabouli was seasoned just right. I could have sworn I had been to Sufiya's Merrick before, but looking at my reviews, I see that my family had been going to their East Meadow location. I think I like this location even more, with its entire front open to a sidewalk cafe. It's spacious inside with even more seating upstairs to the back, which overlooks the bar area. Go around back for plenty of parking. We had a very early dinner/late lunch and while it wasn't empty, we had our choice of seating, so we sat right up front by the open windows. Pretty idyllic! They had a more than decent selection of wine (sangria, reds, whites, bubbles), cocktails and spirits. I enjoyed my glass or two of rosé and my dad liked his sangria. In the past, I've tried their vegetarian entrees like the grilled vegetables and hummus/falafel but the other night I wanted to keep it light and went for the hummus app which is an ample portion. I appreciate the chopped tomatoes on top. Next time I'm back for dinner, I'll add in the babaganoush and olives (they allow for a three app option for an extremely reasonable price). My father loved the beef stew and my husband liked whatever grilled meat option it was that he ordered. Portions are more than generous! Service is prompt and polite. I couldn't ask for more. I look forward to putting Sufiya's on regular rotation when I'm back on LI. It's perfect for lunch or dinner whether you're with family or on a date night. read more

I was there recently, and for the most part all went well. When I got the check, it was a tremendous turn off. Everyone who gets a check at this place, whether you pay in cash or credit card, is charged the credit card fee. When I told this to the waitress she said she gets a lot of complaints, but the owner refuses to change it. I also thought it was improper that she did not pointed out on the check. Also, on the check they are suggesting I leave a 30% gratuity. So if I don't do that the next time I come back will I be treated poorly? Those two things may not bother you, but they bothered me a great deal, so much so I doubt if I will go back. read more

I'm not familiar with many places in the area but met a co-worker for lunch per her recommendation and it was delicious!! Once you're seated they bring a complimentary basket of pita and dip that was very good. Simply loving the taste of each. The unique appetizer dolmeh stimulates my husband's appetite. My main entree lamb shish kebab with Mediterranean salad were perfect pair. This is overall a very good restaurant and everything was good, including the service. I would strongly recommend it to anyone -- especially if you're curious about Persian food. Keep in mind that the food is the only think that's Persian. None of the staff appeared to be Persian and the decor left no sign either. That said, it was a lovely place, modern and clean. The lamb stew had either the wrong type of eggplant, or maybe the eggplant was not cut just right. The stew itself was nice and sour, which is good for me since I like sour. I could see how some people may order that stew and may find it too sour. The steak was the best part of the meal and was tender and just right. Chicken was excellent too. I enjoyed the minced beef kebab. However the barberry rice was a bit off as compared with other Persian restaurants, and that being my favorite dish weighed a bit in the grade. The desserts were great and the tea was strong. I think they put cinnamon in the tea so my kid who normally loves Persian tea couldn't drink it. This restaurant was delicious! They give complimentary pita and dip when you arrive. We ordered the Sabuseh which is crispy dumplings filled with crushed chickpeas and vegetables. This was really yummy and the green dipping sauce on the side made it even better! We also got the Mediterranean salad which was a big portion so had to take some home. For the entree we got an order of the Kubideh Kebab (two skewers of grilled seasoned ground beef and lamb) and the Boneless Chicken Kebab. Both dishes came with your choice of rice, grilled tomato and grilled white onion. That kebabs were phenomenal and filled with flavor. We also got a dirty martini and jalapeño margarita. A little on higher side for a small portion. If you don't want rice you pay $3 addl for a veggie or salad. Makes no sense because they are saving money with no rice. We moved to Lido from Fort Lee where there happens to be a huge Persian, Turkish, Greek population. We missed the food until we discovered Sufiya. Had the appetizer combo with dolmas, hummus and sambusas. The sambusa was so good we ordered another appetizer. My wife had the vegetarian moussaka with rice.
