Broccoli and cheese soup special with a grilled cheese
Katelynn K.

The best place to get southern country food that tastes like home. I got the broccoli cheese soup special and it was amazing. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home.

Meatloaf (very thick), slaw, apples and breadsticks
Drema C.

Meatloaf is very thick and has lots of flavor. Thank goodness it is NOT DRY. However I do like more ketchup sauce on top so I'm giving it four stars. I made an additional sauce on the side with ketchup and Texas Pete from t. Also the slaw is four stars as it could use more taste. You can't go wrong with the apples if you enjoy the taste of cinnamon or sugar apples. Portions are always plentiful at Sue's. The only thing I finished was the meat loaf and left a bit of everything else on the plate including a bread stick. 11/29/19 : Mom and I stopped in for a late lunch of warm soup and grilled cheese. The soup was a bit bland until we added salt. The grilled cheese was delicious! Perfect warm meal for a cold day.

We saw a review online that said "the best breakfast I ever had" and kinda laughed but this literally was the best breakfast we've ever had! The tenderloin was amazing, eggs cooked perfectly Sunny side up and perfect biscuits and gravy. Truly a hidden gem.

Cut up potatoes

My first time eating here and I am very disappointed to receive burnt food. I got a take out order of a cheeseburger with only ketchup and the homestead fries. You can CLEARLY see that these fries are NO good let along to give it to a customer after they have paid for there food.

We were traveling through Elkin and while The Yellow Door Cafe had almost no presence on Yelp we did see many positive reviews in Google and decided this was a great opportunity to add to the Yelp community. We arrived close to noon and were greeted immediately upon walking in. The building appears to be a converted home and is cozy and well kept. We noticed almost immediately there was a connection to Angry Troll Brewing which is another local business in Elkin that we are fans of. The signage for Yellow Door also states they are affiliated with Liberty Catering. We were placed at a small table and provided menus along with a short menu with featured their daily specials. Our server was friendly and helpful in telling us more about their business and making recommendations. My wife decided on the chef salad while I chose the chicken cordon bleu sandwich with fries. Our food arrived a short time later and looked delicious. In addition, the place started to really fill up. There were several tables seated while we enjoyed our meal. My wife really enjoyed her salad but it could have been bigger, she would have loved the option of ordering a larger size for more money. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. I thought the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich was also delicious. The fried chicken was very crunchy. I got the garlic aioli on the side but thought it was yummy and kept dipping my sandwich in it. My wife noted the restroom was clean and well appointed as well. The prices were reasonable and we really enjoyed our meals. This is an excellent stop while in Elkin and near the historic downtown area.

TYD serves brunch and a great selection of sandwiches at reasonable prices. Our party of four for lunch today started with their Pimento Cheese appetizer (available hot or cold). It comes with an amply supply of crispy, house made pita chips. We ordered ours hot. It was creamy with just a little kick. NOT oily like a lot of heated pimento cheese. The Reuben had a healthy serving of corned beef, just the right amount of kraut, and a creamy, Swiss cheese, and sweet Thousand Islands. Rue Bread was grilled just right. The BLT on toasted Sourdough bread was piled high with bacon, fresh tomatoes, and crispy lettuce. With mayo. Bacon was a thick slice, cooked perfectly. The French Dip on Ciabatta bread. Thinly sliced roast beef, with caramelized onions.and Swiss cheese was very good. The dip was ok. Could have a little more kick. Muffuletta sandwich (turkey, ham, olive tapenade, Swiss cheese, and a goat cheese spread) was delicious. They offer fries, sweet potato fries, potato salad, and a pasta salad as sides. Fries were crispy and tasty. Sandwiches are offered on breads appropriate for each sandwich, but you are free to choose other breads. TYD also offers a burger, chicken, chicken salad, and egg salad sandwich. There is a small bar menu and local craft beer available. We highly recommend the Yellow Door Cafe.

Everyone is friendly, and the food is always great. When we left last time I grabbed a bag of the chitlins for the road...best ever. Not greasy, tasty seasoning, ...I made it a plan to get some next visit. To my surprise and delight, they made them fresh. Also recommended trying vinegar on them. Great...just like on English chips!! Oh, for my meal, a half smoked chicken with their crispy coleslaw and hush puppies is a really tasty entree....

When we were arrived we were the only folks there and we had our choice of seating. There isn't tons of seating inside, maybe room for 50 total. We took a seat in the smaller room on the left. The server came quickly to drop off menus and get drink orders. Maybe not completely necessary to mention, but their sweet tea here is good and not overly sweet. The menu is a little more diverse than you'd expect at a BBQ place. Lots of good options. We ordered buffalo chips with ranch to start. They arrived hot and crispy. These were probably my favorite part of the meal. I ordered a hot dog with the special side of the day (buttered corn) and was sharing a 1/4 rack of ribs and mac and cheese with friends. The server had to make sure they had ribs ready. They did. The food for the table came out and my hot dog and corn was dropped off. The ribs were "on their way." A group of 11 came in and the servers started to focus on them. The hot dog was good. A classic NC red dog that had a little crinkle/wrinkle to it which I like to see cause I know they are well-cooked. Toppings were ok. Seemed like they were stingy with the chili (see pic for evidence). The corn was bad - barely warm, watering, and lacked flavor. We had finished our meal and the ribs hadn't come out of the kitchen. We waited and waited. Eventually catching the server's attention. The kitchen hadn't seen the ribs on the ticket. They apologized, took it off the bill, and would get it to us quickly. The rib plate came out. I was going to ask for one of their signature sauces but the plate was dropped and the server headed away quickly. Ribs were great - well smoked and tasty. Definitely would have loved to try their sauces. The mac and cheese was mediocre. barely warm and you guessed it, lacked flavor. Some highs and lows from Wood Box but I'd probably go back and try some of their other items.

So make sure you arrive a few minutes early for your reservation just for parking sake. The space, however, is beautiful inside. Very roomy and dark, romantic vibes. I also love the little fireplace along the long table in the front. Our service was also exceptional. Our waiter made great recommendations and was very accommodating. Isaac was a true gem. The food was really outstanding for a steakhouse in little ol King. We started with bread service but they served it with cold butter which we all know won't spread well. Easy enough fix. The pot roast nachos could have used more cheese, namely a melty cheese but the roast was cooked expertly. So tender and juicy. The rest of our group thought the calamari was overcooked but I didn't mind it. The crab dip was my favorite app, perfect in every way. My ribeye with Mac and cheese and collard greens was superb. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was creamy and the collards had a kick to it that I enjoyed. I liked the brownie dessert but it wasn't anything special. My blood orange margarita was also very good. Overall I highly recommend The Mercantile if you want to eat somewhere off the beaten path. I can't wait to bring my husband back for date night!

When we walked in for dinner it was crowded so we sat at the bar and ate our dinner. As it turned out this was the place to be. The bartender is quite good at his craft. It was fun to see him make and Old Fashioned with the fanfare of the smoked drink under glass. Then someone ordered a cherry Manhatten with a smokey bubble in the glass which popped when presented. I was impressed as I had never seen that technique before. I'm totally ordering again next time I come! Behind me was a long table and on top shooting flames enclosed in a long glass fireplace. Really quite a centerpiece with people dining around each side of it. I wanna bring my friends and sit in front of it, so cool! I ordered a petite filet that was tender and delicious, just the right size when you don't want a huge meal. I ordered a grilled romaine stock as a side. It was better than Ive had in the past. Lightly oiled and grilled not charred. I ordered a baked potato as my side to go w my filet. Quite pleased w my choices. The environment is cozy and the staff and guests are friendly. Next time I'm in King this is where Im going!
