My Indian friends took me with them shopping to this Subzi Mandi, a specialty Indian grocery. It functions also as a Cash & Carry, with bulk/professional size items, like Mango crates, huge jars or cans, or ingredient sacks, geared more to heavy commercial users. A fascinating range of diverse fresh produce, a change from what you may find in your general supermarket, useful for different dishes: various hot Peppers, Gourds, Melons, Alliums, Greens, Mangos, Turmeric, etc. (Wow! Never seen a Banana Flower!) Subzi Mandi's back aisle shelves hold Spices, Jaggery, Ghee, Pickles, Chutneys, Condiments, and many other shelf-stable Indian food products. Their refrigerated and frozen selection also ranges from sweet to savory, vegetarian to animal protein products, for all eating occasions. Up front, they also have snacks and confection. Beyond food around the store, you'll find wellness and beauty items, incense, cooking utensils, and general household products. Subzi Mandi is a market worth exploring, but clearly not a store for everybody. Certainly, it's not some place your average weekly shopper would head for a one-stop shop. Its worn floor also needs some attention. What particularly impressed me, however, was the checkout - note, where you can purchase some fresh, tasty Samosas to go. The charming cashier paid special attention to my friend's 89 year-old mom, who filled her cart with familiar goods for eating at home. That engagement, given the proliferation of self-checkouts and overworked cashiers working understaffed registers, created a personal touch that made our trip to Subzi Mandi a memorable experience. read more

Unprofessional cashiers at the register. There was some dosa batter spill when we reached the register but they didn't bother to clean up. Instead they kept making Holi party plans despite we mentioned the register is dirty because of the spill and that we were having inconvenience to bag our items due to that. "Today, I had gone to the vegetable market to buy some items. I asked the manager if fenugreek (methi) was free, and he responded aggressively, saying no. Then, I took a packet of fenugreek out of the cooler and went to the register. I asked there if it could be sold, and the same manager again rudely replied, 'No, it's not for sale. It's just kept there for display.' Also, the prices were extremely high. If things are not for sale, then why are they kept there? If this continues, the store should just be shut down and rent it out instead. No one should go to that store; the prices are just too high."** read more

In the last few months, I have gotten those dosa mauve with mold and today roti with mold. Stay away. This place is disgusting. Clearly their refrigeration is not good. I'm going to report them to the Better Business Bureau because the people who work there don't seem to care. read more

Very clean Indian grocery store which has plenty of fresh veggies and some fruits. There are aisles of produce, lentils, canned and packaged goods. In the front you can find premade fresh appys such as samosas, and pakoras which are perfect for serving with chutney or tamarind. Guys i had a terrible experience with Sabzi Mandi beside chand palace today I pick up a block of paneer which was 10.99 a pack and had a date of best before as 3/30/2021 I obviously dint notice the pink fungus or mold or whatever that was till i checked out. I am putting my stuff in a bag and i notice these pink spots on the back side of paneer, atleast 8 to 10 dime sized pink spots all over. I told the check out clerk, something seems to be wrong with the paneer and without any remorse, regret or concern, she simply says... "Haan.. jaake doosra lelo" i asked her what is the pink spots and again says the same, " isko chodo, jake doosra lelo" I said i dont want it, just refund my money and she says she cant do that either. She says i will do store credit. I said i am moving away and i wont visit here anymore, i dont need store credit and that i need my money back. She again says, " kya problem hai apko, doosra paneer le jao na, freezer mein pada hai, paise vapas nahi kar sakte" At this point i lost it so badly and i said, " You can sell spoilt paneer but not give me my money back???? Either u return the 10.99 to my card or give me cash or tell me who can do it and i will talk to that person". Then she redirects me to a guy and he puts my money back on card after a few minutes wait!! What is the problem these Sabzi mandi people have with customer service and their stupid policies!! Just frustrating how pathetic they treat customers! My point is, i shouldn't be in a place where i have to go take doosra paneer!! Why the hell is spoilt paneer sitting on your shelf and they had stacked so many. Am sure the doosra also would have been the same!! Friends watch out when u buy stuff at Sabzi Mandi, as it is they are a rip off compared to other Indian groceries!! Pathetic Morals!! This place is okay if you're going to Domino's pizza or Chand place and need to pick something up, like in our case. Their inventory is very much lacking, and the prices and quality of vegetables were eh. There were no helpers to help. Be prepared to bring cash, as well as very very slow moving long lines. The workers there seem to have no urgency and just work at their pace. There was a female cashier who was taking pauses at cashing people out to eat food at the cash register. We have 1 bottle of soda and waited almost 30 minutes just to get checked out. There weren't that many people in front of us, but the cashier was taking so long. We've visited twice to purchase Kulfi ice cream and soda, that's about the only things we saw to buy. read more

For meals in a hurry frozen prepared food and jarred curry sauces, but also all the spices you would need to make your own, papadum, dosa mixes, organic (& not) rice, Dahls, pulses, and refrigerated section with milk, paneer, paratha, dosa mixes, and sweets. Before Indian grocery stores established in Parsippany, we had to drive to Edison. So happy we don't have to do that anymore. Now we have 3 to choose from and I personally like this Subzi Mandi next to Chand Palace. This store is always clean. They have a assortment of vegetables, fruits, nuts, spices, sauces, frozen food, etc. I thought once the "honeymoon" period is over, the cleanliness and service would diminish but nothing like that happened thus far. This is the store to go to for all your Indian cooking or if you just want fresh produce for reasonable prices. Check it out sometime. read more

When you shop at this place, be careful to read labels and date. On April 6, I stopped to buy some bread and found almost all the breads have expired on Apr 3. The manager/owner didn't bother to remove the expired lot. Be careful while shopping here. read more

I love this place. Great prices, all the spices, lots of frozen option and lots of vegetables, many that you can't find in supermarkets. I love the ambiance, with mellow Indian music always playing and flower garlands hanging from the ceiling. My only criticism is the produce could be fresher. read more

worst experience ever. wish can give 0 stars. apart from sub standard goods and expired items on shelf the customer service is awful. recently went for and spent more than 200 dollars. While loading bag of wheat flour to the cart noticed that the bag was ripped, so in good faith told the owner that the seem has come undone of the packet... the owner started accusing me of ripping the vacuum sealed hea duty package)which by the way needs sharp object to open) after owner kept accusing me of ripping the package I said I will for it if he thinks I did it... then he called me arrogant and kept following me around harassing. even after paying for the goods which we neither damaged nor got but still paid the guy followed me till my car calling me names... and threatening me of recording and stuff. First time there and was actually enjoying the place until I started noticing an attitude when I started asking questions. It actually culminated into an employee "scolding" me for almost squishing a small bag of chips that she had placed on top of a freezer. I guess it is a great place you are Indian, but I really felt like I was treated this way because I was the only person in the store who was not Indian. I recommend avoiding this place. I generally liked this store and shopped there every time I was in the neighborhood, but once they gave me a 10 lb. pkg. of brown basmati rice that had small worms in it and the flying insects that developed spoiled my cabinet. I had to throw out all my cookbooks. I think the elderly gentleman who offered to help me carry the package, and told me to wait on the cashiers line, substituted my new package for one on the bottom of the stack that he wanted to get rid of. I have not been back since. If you buy there, make sure you pick out a package from the top and carry it yourself to the cashier. I did not go back to exchange because I live in NYC. The store is really good and big with a lot of choices. The 4 or 5 Hispanic workers were a pain in the back and they were unruly, rude and were calling us by vulgar names (we know some Spanish). I yelled at one of them and he quickly walked away. I complained to the sales woman at the counter and she said she will complain to the manager. In the meanwhile another English speaking smart-ass woman came to us and said that they do this all the time to them and that they don't care and that they don't even understand what they say. Always a great selection of unique produce (more so vegetables than fruit), plus a huge assortment of spices, nuts, beans, dried fruit and prepared foods. I thought this was a great store and then they enlarged it! (Chand's next door is an excellent restaurant too). No where else in my area can I get 5 lbs of paneer or Gujarat chakli. I especially like the huge variety of curry seasonings, we try a different one every month. They have great prices on bulk nuts and dried fruit - the dried ginger is excellent. Fresh veggies and all the different flours you want, like rice flour for breakfast with spicy methi, nice on a cold morning. Try anything freshly made if you don't have time to go next door to eat, for the ride home. The one on rt 46 is still okay, they have the basics but only half the store size. read more
