I've heard a lot people mention Culver's as an alternative to the Big 5 (McDs, BK, TB, KFC and…read moreArby's) While it was a nice break from other fast food, it's way overpriced, probably due to its overhead and marketing. We stopped here enroute to the bridge, and just wasn't impressed for all the rave reviews. I mean it is fast food, so I wasn't really expecting it to be spectacular or served on a silver platter, but so many seem to brag about it, when it's comparable to a west coast Fatburger. The location is very clean, the employees are friendly and helpful, but also seem to give you "the look" of like "haven't you been here before?" (When we haven't) We have stopped in a couple of times and made it a point to try some different items. Price is substantially above the Big 5, we're just sick of the Big 5 and spent the extra $20-$25. It's probably good for some, but not for all. We generally don't eat a lot of fast food anyway, so I hope not to turn others off. Just be warned you'll pay more for food at all their locations, and it's not much different than other fast food for the higher price. Their Butter burger was tasty, fish sandwich ok, chicken sandwich is a chicken sandwich and soggy fries.

We were trapped in this lane while additional customers gave up on the drive through and went in for service. We were literally there for 45 minutes but figured if we waited it out we would still get a good meal... No - Our burgers were not warm and our concrete mixer was melted. How did I get cold food and a melted mixer when a good 15 minutes of the wait was after I paid with the Culver's sticker on my mirror? Unacceptable!!!

Because of the confusing online ordering system, I have been placing my orders by phone. Yesterday I called to place an order only to find out there is no longer an actual human answering the phone. G's has installed an AI generated voice system to take your order. If you want make any changes to your pizza outside of what is listed for that pizza on the menu, the AI voice tells you it can't make the change. Example: On our pizza we eliminate shredded mozzarella cheese, and get extra fresh mozzarella. When I asked for this, I was told by the AI voice that can't be done. After repeated requests to talk to a human, someone finally picked up the phone to take my order. When I told them what happened, they said they would have to make some adjustments to the system. Also, the quality hasn't changed either. We ordered a meat lovers pizza. Now, knowing that there is a lot of grease, especially in the pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, you would know to make the bottom crust thicker than normal. The bottom crust our pizza was paper thin. The grease from all the meat saturated the crust, the paper liner and the bottom of the box. The crust was so soggy, we could not pick up a piece to eat it. We had to use a knife and fork to eat it. Really G's, are you serious? Your not a corporate owned chain restaurant, you're a family owned business with great success. West Branch is not some big city major metropolis. This is rural small town America in Northern Michigan, population 2100. A place where you know your neighbors and local business owners. A place that tourists come, to leave the stress of big city life for a while. I don't understand why there is such a big push in this country to replace human contact with technology. Technology has it's place, however, it is small towns like ours all across this country that have the quality of small town life. Do we really want to change that just to be stylish?

The cashier paused for a minute with my bag in her hand and a co-worker came from behind with my small fry, put it in the bag and said "Those are just out of the fryer. Enjoy, my man." He wasn't kidding. I had to let them cool for a moment. The fries are what usually drew me to Rally's back in the day, and they were still on point. Hot crisp, not greasy in the least, with that irresistable seasoned coating on them. The Rally burger was good too, with nice beef flavor and plenty of toppings. I had to ask for ketchup before I pulled away, but left with more than enough. I won't wait years before my next Rally's visit.

So that is my reason for only 4 stars. We went there in January of this year for breakfast. My wife had a bacon and cheese omelette, I had a sausage and cheese omelette, both come with toast and hash browns. I also had a side of sausage gravy. I had coffee, my wife had a soda. The bill was $42, we left a $7 tip which brought our total to $49 for breakfast. They charge a 3% fee for debit or credit cards, that takes you to $50 for breakfast. I understand that food prices have been going up, along with the egg shortage due to the bird flu. However, the egg shortage is over, but the prices at Mac's haven't come down. During the shortage, eggs were $6 - $8 a dozen or more depending where you shopped. Today I can buy a case of 60 gage free large eggs at Wal Mart for $9.56, that's about $.016 per egg. The omelettes at Mac's are made with 3 eggs. So that's $0.48 for a 3 egg omelette plus the sausage and cheese. For $9.56, I can make 20-3 egg omelettes. Also, I'm sure restaurants pay less as they are buying their supplies in bulk.
