We arrived just a couple minutes after their 11 a.m. opening, and the place was already packed, a good sign in itself. Luckily, with only three of us, the hostess got us seated at a table right away. The exterior isn't much to look at, but stepping inside tells a different story. The interior has a sports bar meets old school diner vibe, with decor that gives the whole place a nostalgic, lived-in charm. We all decided on the Darrell's Special sandwich with jalapeño mayo, and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was fantastic the whole meal, constantly checking in, keeping our drinks filled, and making sure we didn't need anything else. Despite how busy the place was, our sandwiches came out in a surprisingly short time. The sandwich itself is a beast! A toasted, loaded bun stacked with ham, turkey, and roast beef (which I hear is made in-house), all topped with roast beef gravy, American, Swiss, and provolone cheeses, lettuce, mustard, and your choice of regular or jalapeño mayonnaise, of course we had the Jalapeño Mayo. The first bite reminded me of a warm French dip, but that impression quickly gave way to layers of different meat flavors, rounded out by the subtle heat of the jalapeño mayo. It practically melted in my mouth. Honestly, I wanted to finish the whole thing, but I didn't want to need to be rolled out of the building, so I boxed up the second half and enjoyed it again for dinner. Great food, great service, and now I understand what all the buzz was about.

The menus are on the table but you really don't need a menu here since there are only a few items. Everyone comes here for po-boys obviously and they have a few to choose from. The top 2 choices are the most common, the special and the surf and turf. To me, what makes a good po-boy, is the bread....like many other sandwiches. If you have great bread, you're usually making a good sandwich. I tried the small special, while the rest of the table tried either the special or surf and turf. They don't have a formal kids menu, but they just have either PB&J or grilled cheese. We tried the grilled cheese. My fav ended up being the surf and turf due to it being cleaner to eat and more variety of taste and texture between the bread. I liked the special, but I forgot to ask the server to remove the American cheese, so it made it taste funny and would have been better without it.

Each day these feature a choice of one of two entrees, a starch, and two veggies. They have a rotating menu that is distributed locally. There is even a drive through for pick up. If you want to order something else, there are great sandwiches, burgers, salads, and some seafood specials. Nothing is very fancy, but everything is really good and filling. Drop in and see why Greens is popular with the locals!

I ordered the daily special: pork tips with mac and cheese, black-eyed peas, sweet tea, and chips on the side. The pork tips over rice were tender and flavorful, but there was a little too much gravy. An extra half scoop of rice would have balanced the dish much better. With just a little more seasoning or spice, the pork tips would have been top-tier. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite. It appeared to have eggs in it, and the black pepper flavor was a bit stronger than I prefer. I think a touch of cayenne would have given it a better kick. The black-eyed peas were good, although I personally think white beans would have paired better with the meal. The sweet tea was excellent, and the service was one of the highlights. The person at the counter was friendly, respectful, and welcoming, and my food came out quickly. The atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a local mom-and-pop lunch spot; simple, relaxed, and perfect for a quick bite. Overall, Green's is a solid place to grab lunch if you're already in the area. I'll stop by again when I'm in town, but it's probably not a place I'd take a special exit off the highway just to visit.

Today, I was running behind and had to eat lunch on the fly, so I decided to dine at the Dairy Queen in Welsh, Louisiana while I was in town working. I cannot remember the last time I had eaten at a Dairy Queen Restaurant. The building, which is in a very small town, is extremely date and could use a remodel. The parking lot and the parking situation are not the best. However, the parking lot was cleaned, and the inside of the restaurant was cleaned including the self-serve drink station. I arrived around 2:30 PM with only a couple of other customers and I was immediately greeted by a smiling employee. I ordered the Bacon Two Cheese Deluxe Combo. The burger was a 1/3 lb. double Signature Stack burger with two 100% seasoned beef patties, topped melted Sharp American** and White Cheddar**, Applewood smoked bacon, tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and mayo on a soft and toasted bun. The burger was beyond what I expected and tasted fantastic. The burger was made to order, perfectly cooked, and all the ingredients tasted fresh. Bite after bite I felt the crunch of the fresh vegetables and crispiness of the bacon. I love good burgers, and this was one of the best burgers I've eaten in a long time. The fries were warm, had no salt, no flavor, and just not good. Next time, I'll just order the burger and not the fries. if the fries would have been hot and tasty, I would have given a 5 - Star rating Great rating.
