It's usually not easy for me to critique a business quite ordinarily but this would have to be one of those occasions. I usually love Subway. I would happily be hired as a mystery shopper if I could. This experience would be one disappointment for me.
The place looked good and well when I walked in. The sandwich artist just finished serving someone and I was straight up. I ordered my usual Ham footlong on wheat bread. She was very fast at applying the fillings. I did notice she left off 1 slice of ham on the roll (there should be 8 slices on foot longs), which didn't really bother me but my OCD and the fact I've worked for Subway did pick up on it. I also noticed she was very blazè with her communication skills and didn't seem very positive or welcoming at all. I did ask for extra for a certain salad filling and she gave me a bit of a look which would be described as "umm really!?". When it came to the tail end of the sandwich creation, she vaguely asked if I wanted sauce and salt and pepper. She never asked if there was anything else I'd like when it came to check-out, instead just said the total price... Where as I was interested in grabbing a post mix cup. After paying she didn't say thank you, bye, or have a nice day... Just walked off. I work in the food and beverage industry myself for the last 8 years and deal with customers in my store everyday, and there are common factors that really need to be in play when working with customers buying good, which go to paying wages etc. The people behind the counter are the biggest representations of that certain business especially.
Moving on... When I went the mezzanine level where their main dining area is I was even more appalled. It was dirty and disgusting. Every table was filthy and hadn't been wiped over. They had lounge chairs which were scattered with crumbs, normal chairs were dirty and stained, and the floors looked as if they hadn't been vacuumed in a week. There were even marks on some walls where looked as if things had spilled and splashed up.
To give some positive light my finished sandwich product was actually quite nice. Tasted fresh and nicely done. The bread wasn't stale or didn't seem old. Almost surprisingly by the way this business had been portrait until that point. read more
