It was with him that I went to lunch a few days ago. We arrived just after noon on a Saturday and we're surprised to be the only patrons! We are seated, quickly given menus, water, and allowed adequate time to review the menu. Our server was the son of the proprietor and he was such a delight! You could tell how proud he is of his Lebanese heritage and regaled up with a few stories of Houda, his grandmother and the restaurant's namesake. In addition he helped guide some of our dining choices and we were not disappointed! Houda's serves up tasty, flavourful, and generous portions. We had so much food left over that we had another meal the next day!

The food wasn't too warm when it arrived at our table... Was really yummy though. The zaartar bread was to die for and the lahm (lamb on a stick) was yummmmm! Would have been a 5/5 if the food was hot! Great food tho would come back (hopefully next time the food comes out hot!) The atmosphere was nice too, they had Lebanese music playing in the background and it seemed like an environment that would be child friendly. Nice and quiet too so you can have a conversation without having to yell.

My Mother and I were in the neighbourhood and needed a feed. Yelp of course lead me to this fine family restaurant just off Goodwood road. Easily spotted with colourful signage on the road. Sumac staff are quiet, but are really friendly and welcoming. They are very happy to walk you through the menu if you are unsure of what items are. Some of them I had not heard of before. My Mum and I love to sample everything, and there isn't really much we don't like. So we of course went for the Shashlik Platter. It comes with three different styles of Shashlik, hummus, baba ganoush, home-made pickles, tabouli, salad with crispy pita, spiced rice and garlic sauce. All of that for $24.90! So awesome! We actually thought it would be smaller, so we ordered a plate of falafels as well. And yes, we definitely had stuff to take home. My fave on the platter was the hummus, pickles & chicken shashlik. All very flavoursome and well spiced. Wow, that garlic sauce is really intense, but also amazing on the pita bread. The falafels were fresh, but not as fluffy as I would have liked. They were full of fresh herbs though, so that made up for that! A huge menu to choose from, so be prepared to take a while to decide. You will really love this place!

My change of heart came around as a result of a friend of mine telling me how freaking awesome a 'wrap' of his was then refusing to give me a taste (prick). So I had to check it out, and they are pretty darn good! It's funny, usually I am not too big a fan of hummus, but it worked really well. I turned down the tabouli, but I am sure it is all good if you are into it. The little sweets looked really good, but I didn't give them a burl this time. I will be sure to next week though! Also they cater, so could be a go if you are looking for something a little different for you next Brithday or Beerday (everyday is a possible Beerday!).

But, I guess the outside of the store never really tickled my fancy. It is definitely not flash looking inside or out. There are no fancy tables, crockery or cultery. This is just good food served straight up! Lawash Bakery is serving up some really decent Lebanese food. If you love grilled meats, bread and flavour, well you have come to the right place. There are a few vego items to choose from, but I think this is more of a meat eating destination. There are a lot of options for you to choose from. Many different styles of grill, bread and accompaniments. You can order large platters for the table to share as well. I went for the mixed grill, that way I get to try a couple of different styles. It was great! Full of flavour, spices, slightly salty and smoky. Everything you want in a kebab. It was served on some really fresh pita and a side of lettuce, tomato and onion. That way you can wrap it up if you like. There was a whole lot of garlic in that meat and sauce too. So, maybe bring some mints to freshen up afterwards. I really liked the service and value here. I might have liked a few choices of sauces to go with my meat. But, it was cooked well and tasted brilliant. This is the type of place you want to go to fill up before a night on the town. Note, if you need to go to the loo, the bathroom around the back of the shop. But, be warned, it is really ewwww...

Granted, there will be a mess after finishing your meal so don't be surprised. Make sure you grab a plastic fork and napkin at the top of the counter, because sometimes they're so flat out they forget to give you one. 2. By the end of the meal you will either be full or can't finish it all...because they give you a generous serving of meat! 3. They attract people of all ages and cultures (Aussie, European, Asian, anyone is very welcome! etc.). 4. They were efficient behind the counter, and made sure that they wrote down how you like your yiros or meal was made "what meats and sauces would you like?". I always order the $10 Chicken AB with bbq sauce, tomato sauce, garlic sauce, and chips. I LOVE their AB...and my older brothers who regularly come here after work, do too. 5. The line is never long, usually there's one or no people waiting. They are quick to say hello and take your order straight away... 6. The place generally smells GOOD. I mean, in the restaurant kinda way. LIKE it makes you even more hungry and excited waiting. 7. The view of the lake if you sit outside is an exhilarating one, and a great way to catch your breath on your break from the stresses of work! You might even catch a view of some of the cool and loud European cars that roar past. 8. I wonder if someone called Nik named this restaurant after himself or someone close to him? I'm probably wrong. If anyone knows, I think that'd be interesting note to add. Overall - I really like Nik's Bbq On the Lake....even way before I started yelping. You cannot dissociate the Mawson Lakes Blv and Nik's Bbq. They go together very well. I was really close to giving them 5 stars, but understand that I'm just generally a hard man to please...
