Had I not been with a friend who had a 5 year old daughter, there's a distinct possibility that I…read morewould've easily overlooked Herbees. She was instantly drawn to the Fairy Garden that's visible from the sidewalk and to the left of the cafe. Closer inspection drew disappointment when we found that the garden itself was shut "because it's too hot today". It was 38 degrees. Quite normal for this time of year in South Australia I thought? Anyway, we were able to peer through the gate and it was left to the vivid imagination of the 5 year old as to what lay beyond! We decided to stay and have a latte and sat in the courtyard. The service was very good and the prices were reasonable considering that we were in a hot tourist area. I'm sure that we'll go back there - perhaps in winter to see if it's open. And I'm sure that an excited 5 year old's mind can magically wander.

Hunched in the rain we scuttled from cafe to cafe in a downpour finding somewhere that offered a full day breakfast and outdoor seating for the dog... a tough ask. Luckily here offers all that and more with a whimsical garden out the back fitted with outdoor gas heaters and an all day breakfast menu amongst a range of lunch time foccacias and juices. Coffee didn't even need sweetners it was perfect, and ordering the jumbo breakfast to share meant we got to taste a wide range of goodies. The grilled mushrooms phenomenal, the atmosphere adorable and the prices reasonable. The apple strudel cake was the bomb digitty. The jewel to the crown was the cutest loo I've been in, sorry guys had to take pics for proof! Allover a cute and humble offering in the hills I'd come back for. Not sleek, not industrial chic, no hipster fittings...just a cottage your nan would feel welcome in and I wouldn't have it any other way.

When I went here I had a simple poached eggs with avo on rye toast. Unfortunately the eggs were a little too firmly cooked for my liking, but the dish was still fresh and filling. The coffee was also delicious. This place is very cosy with its pot belly stove roaring on a cool winter's day and a lovely friendly environment to dine for brekky or lunch.

I have had some of their beers before, namely because I wandered into a bottle shop, but it was great to actually visit the brewery itself. I came for a visit on a Saturday, it was quite busy, and the staff had asked if we had made a reservation. I suggest booking a table if you're planning a visit, especially on a weekend. The brewery has a great airy and open feel to it, a variety of tables and seating, and great decorations hanging about. There was a large variety of pub style to choose from, I opted for the nachos, although my friend wanted salad and was told that both salad options listed on the menu were no longer being offered. The best part, however, were the endless options of beers. They had a variety of selections on tap, a few ciders, and even cans and bottles to take home. I ordered the Zeppelin IPA and I loved it. Overall, I highly recommend paying this brewery a visit up in the hills, it was great.

I think that a lot of people drive past on their way to wineries, but they should really stop for a coffee. It is just the cutest cottage. A few different rooms and you will find the café part in the middle room. What I really love about this place is all the little hidden room dining areas. There are range of take away options for lunch or dinner for the family. Some super tasty looking stews, pasta and salads. Wow! All decently priced and a great healthy alternative then going out for takeaway. I look forward to return to eat some lunch. On this visit my guest and I tried the Lemon Polenta and the Pecan cake. Both were very moist, full of flavour, and not too sweet. Which is perfect by my books. The coffee is a strong and robust. Lovely blend and great barista. You couldn't have asked for anything better on a cold rainy day! I think I might become a regular as a resident of the Hills! I am looking forward to warming up near their open fireplace.

As is often the case, I'm glad I was wrong. Little did I know a quirky little cafe is the perfect replacement for a redundant service station! So far I've only had coffee, but based on the experience of our group the overall customer experience is great! Our coffees (and one iced chocolate) came out really promptly and were top notch (and very affordable somehow). We opted to sit out the back, a great choice for a bright, warm hills Autumn morning. It feels like being out the back of my Nanna's house (retro table and all) only no one is yelling at me through the back window about the football scores.. which is good I guess, for a cafe anyway.

It was an interesting visit during which we had the feeling that the staff wanted to finish up for the day (it was just after 3pm but admittedly it was a public holiday so the whole township had been busy all day). There was one thing I found slightly strange about the service, perhaps even slightly uncomfortable, which was the super service a girlfriend and I received from a particular waiter when we ate in here. He was just overly attentive, introducing himself, checking on us every 10 minutes and then when we were leaving he said he was so pleased to meet us. So I guess the service was good, too good. You can sit inside or out, it's probably nicer inside but I'm one of those people who doesn't like the staff watching me eat, so out in the courtyard under the leafy vines housing caterpillars it is! PS. I've heard the German Sausage is ultra satisfying.

There are fixies out the front, often filled with breadsticks, and there are cute wooden chairs and tables. I went up here for breakfast with my family and got amazing muesli. Almost every time I go out for breakfast I purchase the muesli, so this had a lot of competition. The muesli itself was delicious, it tasted home-made and very organic. But what made it the best was the poached fruit they served it with. The fruit was warm and syrupy, contrasting perfectly with the rest of the dish. Another star meal they have here are the mushroom burgers. YUM. Try one. You won't be disappointed. The bread is all freshly made too, making it even more delightful. If you want to go somewhere a bit out of the ordinary in Hahndorf, come here. It can get really busy during the summer months- especially if you are looking for a table outside.
