Shellys Stigler Cafe - Sorry I ate the other half

    Shellys Stigler Cafe

Happened to be near Stigler for a funeral, and it was lunchtime, so I dropped into Shelly's for…read morelunch. It's a pretty good sized place, with 4 seating areas. I was seated quickly and offered a menu, also advised about the lunch buffet, that day being hamburger steak and meatloaf. I was hesitant at first, because it's been my experience neither of those do well on a buffet, but when the customer next to me heard "meatloaf", she said "Is today meatloaf day?" with a favorable tone, so I decided to give it a shot. I love a good buffet and this one did not disappoint. The salad bar ($3.99 adder) was a solid old school salad bar. Plenty of toppings, enough to make a good meal on. The buffet consisted of the aforementioned meats, along with mashed potatoes, brown gravy, a pan of fried onions (NICE touch), corn, carrots and a couple other vegetable choices I didn't take advantage of. The meatloaf was some of the best I've had in diners, despite being on a buffet. Surprisingly, the hamburger steak was not at all dried out and had a really robust flavor. The potatoes were good, not sure if they were scratch or not, but they were good nonetheless. The gravy was for sure a packet mix, and it wasn't holding well on the steam table, but it was decent anyway. Service was outstanding, food was good and the price was reasonable. That's a win in my book.

There is a layer of meat that is mushy and does not look like meat. I would not order that again. The chicken piccata looked really good and the people that ordered it said it was delicious. The service is top notch and the inside is decorated nicely and looks high-end with all the windows. I think it's the best restaurant in town! Ralph plays guitar on Saturday evenings. Think James Taylor! It's really nice to hear him sing and play his acoustic guitar!

Lots of excellent choices. JBL ordered chicken parm over spaghetti, I ordered lasagna. Both came w salad. But, before anything, the rolls arrived. All I can say is,"Arriverderci Rolla." They were delicious. Hot, a hint of garlic, w packets of butter. We each had tre. For our salads, both of us had them w a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Very excellent. Both of us loved our entrees. Service was excellent, prices reasonable. Parking on the street (free). Possibly a hitching post out back. The awesome mural, of a lakeside village in Albania was unbelievable. It took 2 people only a week-and-a-half to complete! Apologies for not having my camera We both agreed .... 4 and-a-half mangia stars
