Reba's is easy to find and quite convenient. It's a large restaurant with a very nostalgic feel…read more The place is open and lots of seating. Music is great! We grabbed a menu and sat down. I noticed it's a bit limited on burgers and sandwiches but perhaps good for the area and easy for the staff to make. We ordered and added some pies, paid in cash for the discount and left to fill our cups. The cashier and another employee had conversations amongst themselves while we were ordering and paying. Felt a bit awkward since we didn't want to interrupt their hugging and or whatever they were doing. The sweet tea stayed mostly empty but lots of unsweetened tea. We dove right into our pies first. The Almond Joy didn't taste like the candy bar as much as an amaretto coconut pie but really good! The buttermilk pie was really good too. I ordered the chicken poblano "burger". The lettuce was sadly very soggy as was the whole sandwich. Thankfully the bun was toasted because there was way too much mayo. I noticed right away that it was just bland. The chicken was thick which is great but it was bland on bland on bland. No poblano flavor. I looked for the peppers. They were grilled/sautéed and thin. Soggy sitting under the lettuce. No flavor. The fries weren't anything special but the crunch. The tea was sadly tasteless as well. I really wish there was more to say. My mom's sandwich was just sort of...there. Nothing special to talk about. I'd go again for pie and coffee alone and only if I was desperate for something to eat. There may be better places to eat in town. It's slow paced inside. Good to watch cars go by and imagine what the place looked like years ago.

(FYI, I live in San Antonio and am very tempted to take a road trip for my next yummy slice.) Then there dessert...well, located within a rocks throw of Brenham, you know what to expect, and it ain't just yummy cookies and cake. Yes, ladies and gentlemen (drumroll) you guessed it...BLUE BELL ICE CREAM!! Spoiler alert they failed to have my favorite daiquiri ice but you're not going to lose me over that. (Hint: just saying for future options. I'll be on the lookout next time I'm rolling down 290 East.) All good and well, the girls behind the counter were attentive and nice. And the restaurant rang of a good place to go after a go hometown Buffalo's Friday night football game. (This is Texas you know.) Thanks Reba (if there is a flesh and blood Reba out there) for expanding to your latest downtown location. LOVE IT!

I usually call in our order when we are about 20 minutes away from our stop. Everytime I call in the order the person on the other end is friendly and repeats back what we order. The convenient store part of Hruska's has a lot of items that you can choose from to purchase and they have clean bathrooms which is a positive. When we get there we park, walk in and head to pick up our food at the counter. It's usually labeled with the ticket stapled to the bag. We then get in line to pay for our food. The line is usually backed up but moves fairly quickly. There is also a small area with tables and chairs that you can sit at and enjoy your meal or sit there if you need a rest. For my meal I usually order a Hamburger which comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. I usually get mine with mustard. Their burgers are so good and a good size. Overall Hruska's is a great stopping place while traveling. Whether it's for gas, a bathroom break, or if you want to grab something to eat this is a one stop shop place.

Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.

But you absolutely positively want to avoid the two restaurants on the side. The kolaches and baked goods at Nonnie's Bakery are nearly inedible. Given my bad experiences with Nonnie's, I studiously avoided having anything to do with Papa G's. * * * Well, circumstances are circumstances, And for reasons that would come out of a hackneyed situation comedy script, I absolutely positively was stuck taking a dinner at Papa G's. My earlier instincts had been 100% on target. As they say, "The Truth Comes Out in the Wash." * * * I had a small but perfectly acceptable chicken fried steak. The toast that came with it was fine. The price was eminently reasonable. The lady behind the counter was nice. The deal ruiner? The Tater Tots. Looking around at the other tables, I saw the French Fries were exactly the same way. They serve a lot of Tater tots and French Fries at Papa G's. The potato products are Way way way overcooked in the fryer, They are greasy. They taste burnt and unpleasant. I was hungry and this was the only food I was going to get in a while, So I tried to make a go of it. I should have left every Tater Tot except the first one on my plate. * * * Now to be fair, Truckers LOVE The Rocking G. There are a lot of trucks parked in the back and the truckers hang out throughout the complex. The food is inexpensive, and the gas may be inexpensive too. They have good showers, and the physical building is nice. I did NOT have the burgers. Since my chicken fried steak was okay, the burgers may be okay. * * * But given the rough time I was having keeping the meal I had from a) coming up the wrong direction earlier in the evening, or b) departing my system in an disorderly way the next day, I am not that eager to give the burgers a turn at bat.

From the moment I pulled up, the attitude and unprofessionalism were unbelievable. Before I even said a single word, the attendant abruptly shouted, *"Can I please have a second?!"* in an irritated tone -- startling and completely unnecessary. I sat patiently for several minutes, expecting the order process to continue after she finished whatever she was doing. But instead, another vehicle pulled up in the second lane, and to my disbelief, their order was taken almost immediately while I was still waiting in silence in the first lane. After sitting there for roughly three minutes, I politely checked in to see if anyone was available -- only to be met with the **exact same rude tone**, again yelling, *"Can I have a second?!"* with heavy attitude as if I had done something wrong just by waiting. When I calmly pointed out that another car had just been served before me, she fired back sarcastically, *"Well obviously we're busy,"* instead of offering any kind of professional apology or basic courtesy. At that point, I realized there was no sense in continuing -- no customer deserves to be talked to or treated that way. The staff at this location are clearly in desperate need of customer service retraining. Rudeness, indifference, and prioritizing one car over another in the drive-through lane are unacceptable behaviors for any restaurant, let alone a national brand known for its hospitality. I ended up driving away without even placing an order, completely turned off by the unprofessional conduct and lack of respect. If this is how the team treats paying customers, it reflects very poorly on their management and on Whataburger's standards as a whole. I truly hope corporate addresses the staffing and training issues here because the current operation is an embarrassment to the Whataburger name.
