Well, we felt over-caffeinated and hungry so plans cha fed and we decided to order lunch instead. After finishing our delicious meal, we ordered dinner to carry out. This cafe is a local gem. Totally different vibe than Contrast Coffee's which was modern, sleek and seemed to attract lots of younger folks. Contrast seemed more to be the place one might choose with just coffee. A sweet treat or something light with coffee. MJC has a very up-north, laid back, comfy feel. It beckons you to grab a table or comfy chair and stay a while. Its vibe might resonate with families, friend groups, seniors, artists and health conscious foodies. The menu offered so many choices: soup, salad, wraps, paninis and pizzas. Many choices in each category, all with the freshest of ingredients, combined creatively, focused on flavor and presented really well for such a casual place. It had a farm-to-table feel. Confident the sauces and dressings were made from scratch. We ordered two wraps and a salad to share and were warned that it might be too much food for two. It definitely would have been. Thankful for this tip. We shared a summer special Mad Hatter panini with chicken, mushrooms and provolone. It was amazing. The mushrooms were perfection. We also shared a Central salad which was so full of delightful add-in like cranberries and cashews. The salad dressing was wonderful. As an after thought, we decided to share a bowl of the soup of the day: chicken and dumplings. So full of chicken, veggies and small dumplings. Delish. We took home a cold club wrap for dinner and the Lynne Lu salad. The dishes were wrapped with such care. We really appreciated the friendly and knowledgeable staff. If we lived here, MJC would be a go-to spot for breakfast and brunch. The homemade desserts looked fabulous. Will need to return on another trip to this area to try them with a mocha which brought us to MJC's

We weren't very hungry, but even if we were, what we ordered would have filled us both. Each had a very hot bowl of French Onion Soup which was delicious. It was full- bodied, not overly salty, with a nice bread covered with very bubbly, browned cheese overall. We also split a Black and Blue Gorgonzola Cranberry salad in which the good-sized piece of steak was nicely charred, and tender, and the greens fresh and plentiful as was the cheese crumbles and bacon. What really made it delicious was the absolutely delicious balsamic vinaigrette (maybe the best I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I am a salad fanatic)! The waitress was very nice (though the other woman wasn't so friendly). The only thing that wasn't great the ambiance. The ceiling is so high and there was a table of four women who were so loud it was hard to have a conversation at our table of two, and no one else in the restaurant. The walls are very bare and the tables look like they were haphazardly arranged. But who cares much when the food is so good, and the prices exactly reasonable!.

The vibe and decor is reminiscent of the good ole days in Brooklyn NY, replete with funky vintage lighting and a popcorn machine. So for ambiance and a drink I'd give the place a 5. I may have a biased review in the pizza. Coming from an Italian family from NYC and NJ (kind of the two US pizza meccas) it is hard for me to enjoy most pizzas. Crust was like a cracker (some people like it like that I like a hand tossed crust.) and the gravy (sauce) was very very sparse. No garlic. I'd give the sausage on the pie a 5 though. If I were to base my review on the pizza only I'd give it a 3. In addition to the pie I ordered the hot beef sandwich. In my anticipation of have a hot beef sandwich I was envisioning the tasty version with a nice au jus on it ..which is what the typical hot beef is by us.... Instead I got a dried up beef sandwich with zero flavor. It was like eating shoe leather. Maybe it was an off night... things happen. But we were there at 6:45pm so we weren't near the last meal ordered.... I'd go back for a drink and some popcorn but I don't think I'd try the pizza and definitely not the hot beef again.
