Capriotti's Sandwich Shop - Grilled Italian with Marinara

Ate at Capriotti's today for the first time for lunch and had a really great experience!…read more It is in a very convenient location downtown and looks amazing from the outside and inside. The dining room is very nicely decorated and feels very open with all the windows! It was clean and there were lots of seating options. The bathrooms were also very nice and clean. I ordered the grilled Italian sandwich with marinara sauce added, and really liked it! I think I would like it better without the marinara sauce next time, but I was very happy with my order! The staff seemed very friendly and were all super energetic. We were welcomed in when we came into the restaurant and everyone that was working there seemed happy to be there! Great atmosphere, great food, and amazing service! I will be here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal!

Okay y'all, I get the low reviews now. I made the mistake of going to Capriotti's during lunch…read more It sucked. For starters, I ordered online beforehand (and included a nice tip). I was told my order would be ready at a certain time (15 or so minutes), so I headed over. Surprisingly, there were empty tables and those who ordered at the register had no problems. The rest of us--who ordered takeout/delivery--got screwed. I went over to the spot that said "online orders" and noticed two bags of sandwiches, chips, drinks, etc.--neither with my name on them--so I stepped back and waited. And waited. And waited. Those two bags were never touched, announced, etc. Then I noticed the pile of sandwiches by where the cooks are that kept growing and growing. Those who dined in had their names called out. The rest of us I guess were just supposed to have ESP--I had gotten a text saying my order was ready, but these were just sandwiches and I had a combo. Finally, I walked over and explained and was given my sandwich--which had been sitting for a while. The hot sandwich was now lukewarm at best. Still, the lady (manager?) manning the register, got my drink and chips...but then I saw her. One of the cooks. Staring at me behind my sandwich with a death glare. Lady with braids, I'm sorry you were having a bad day, but I could literally feel that you wanted to spit on my food with your evil eye. Parking is a nightmare, the kitchen itself looked like a mess because sandwich parts were all over the floor, and I'll never forget that lady glaring at me just because I wanted my damn sandwich. I'm not going back here.

This is a great food truck from the same folks as Fire and Spice (both the truck and the…read morerestaurant). This truck focuses on sandwiches, wraps, and burgers, often with some sort of decadent or spicy twist. I'm a big fan mostly for their burger: two patties with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes (though I ask for these to be taken off), bacon, and their heavenly sauce, which to my tastes is reminiscent of a really good fry sauce. It's a fairly traditional burger but executed super well. The patties are a great thickness for me - maybe a bit thinner than a standard Five Guys burger - and since there's two of them it's a pretty filling meal on its own. The service has always been polite and helpful, and the food usually comes out quickly even when the truck is pretty busy. They park on the Arsenal sometimes and are working on perfecting their online ordering system to further improve wait times. My one complaint is the price/size of the fry portion. I always like to have fries with my burger, even when the burger is really big lol. You can get an order added on to your sandwich for an extra charge. Personally, I think $3 is high for the pretty small serving size they offer. I'd ideally like to have more fries OR the same amount at a lower price; either would be okay. The fries themselves are pretty good; you can get different seasonings on them and for an extra dollar can add a cup of their yummy fry sauce. The burger is legit, though, y'all -- probably my #2 or #3 favorite burger in Huntsville, depending on my mood. If they're close to me, I'll pretty reliably seek them out for a tasty meal. They're very good about posting their schedule for the week on social media, so it's easy to hunt them down.

I created an account and tried to use the sign on coupon for 50% off my order, but no matter what I did but coupon would not let me check out, I tried revising my order 10 different ways and it got to the point where I drove to the location and asked for help and all they said was that they didn't know anything about it and they couldn't do anything. And then when I asked if they could honor it somehow in person all they said was they couldn't because it's online but they don't even know how to make it work online, and then I tried using a separate order under a different coupon and then it wouldn't let me use it because they were 30 minutes from closing. Instead I have to go home and starve because I do not have the money to pay full price. I am a first responder so this hits me especially hard.

It was, in a word, a mess. Hardly any turkey, the roll was too soft, nothing tasted "right," and even my pickle was alarmingly mangled (how?!). I've been here before and things have been "okay" for fast food subs, so it may just have been a fluke but...ummm...no. Not going back here. Service wasn't great, the order took forever, and the excuse given was "sorry we have to clear out the online orders before we do walk ins." Nope.

Pros: The drive through is fast, though it may take a bit if you're going during prime time. The meats that we've had (chicken, pork, brisket) have been good except for one fatty pork plate I had. AMPLE portions on meat. All of the sides we've had--except the ew, gross, raw green peppers potato salad--have been good. The mac and cheese runs saaaaalty, so be warned. Cons: I hate their cheese biscuits. Sorry, cornbread should not be sweet. I don't get the type, but if you are into sugary cheddar cornbread it'll be up your alley. It gets BUSY, particularly if you're dining in. This will likely settle some as time goes on. Getting in and out is kind of a mess--you're either dealing with Carl T. Jones or Cecil Ashburn traffic. Workers are friendly, but you can tell they're a bit overwhelmed at times. Just be patient. Overall, a solid addition to the neighborhood.

First of all, the parking lot was not friendly, I drive a sports car that is low to the ground. All the concrete curbs had to be carefully avoided so as to not tear up my car. We had previously enjoyed Jim and Nick's in Gardendale; good food, good atmosphere and good wait staff. When we walked in, we encountered a young lady standing behind the counter ready to take our order. Not what we expected. This was Wendy's deja vous! We expected to be seated, order a drink from the bar and study the menu. The young lady offered us a paper menu to help us with our selections. We were told to seat ourselves. After deciding on the entree's I started back to the front counter to order while my husband's intent was to go order cocktails at the bar. Instead we were intercepted by the bartender and shown the exit!!!! We explained that we had just arrived minutes before and had not eaten. My husband decided to forego the bar and joined me at the front counter. I explained to the young lady at the counter that I did not feel very welcome. We placed our orders; BBQ stuffed baked potato, a pulled pork sandwich and an order of the cheddar corn muffins. We served our own soft drinks and sat down at a booth. After several minutes the bartender came over and apologized stating that she didn't realize that we had just arrived minutes before. (Did I mention that there were only two other tables occupied in the entire restaurant?) Our food arrived, without the side order of muffins. The young man who brought the order was very polite. Several bites into our meal, an individual who I would presume was the manager, Chris, stopped by to introduce himself . The young man stopped by again and I inquired about the missing muffins. He brought them almost immediately, to go! We thought that the food was pretty ordinary BBQ fare. Not on par with what we had experienced in Gardendale. There was no wait staff. The restaurant was clean and well lit. We had previously noticed that Jim and Nick's did a fairly brisk drive through business. They will have to continue to do a brisk drive through business because as a dining establishment they fell very short. We will not be going back.

This time, I ordered the Vegetarian Combo Sandwich to go, which includes veggie turkey, corned beef, wham, and chicken. I was genuinely looking forward to it, especially after hearing so many rave reviews over the years from folks in Huntsville and Oakwood University alumni. Unfortunately, my experience was a major letdown. When I got home to Atlanta and unwrapped the sandwich, I was shocked. The bread was torn and falling apart, and there were no condiments included--none on the sandwich and none in the bag. No one asked if I wanted any, and I had no idea I needed to request them. The only addition was a small portion cup of diced tomatoes and diced pickles... which did very little to help the situation. To make matters worse, the sandwich cost $21.26 for two--and honestly, I've had far better subs for much less. Given the price and all the hype, I expected something that at least held together and had some flavor. I know Stanlieo's has a strong reputation in the Huntsville community, but based on this experience, I just don't get the hype. Sadly, this was one of the worst sub sandwiches I've ever purchased. Come on, Stanlieo's--people are rooting for you. But at these prices, customers deserve quality and attention to detail. Until then, you all might be better off just heading to Subway. To be fair, the ambience is fine. The place has been around for a while, and it carries a retro charm that likely appeals to those with fond memories of visiting over the years. It still looks much like it probably did when it first opened, and I imagine that sense of nostalgia is part of its lasting appeal. But for me, nostalgia just wasn't enough to make up for the lackluster food quality.
