I usually call in our order when we are about 20 minutes away from our stop. Everytime I call in the order the person on the other end is friendly and repeats back what we order. The convenient store part of Hruska's has a lot of items that you can choose from to purchase and they have clean bathrooms which is a positive. When we get there we park, walk in and head to pick up our food at the counter. It's usually labeled with the ticket stapled to the bag. We then get in line to pay for our food. The line is usually backed up but moves fairly quickly. There is also a small area with tables and chairs that you can sit at and enjoy your meal or sit there if you need a rest. For my meal I usually order a Hamburger which comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. I usually get mine with mustard. Their burgers are so good and a good size. Overall Hruska's is a great stopping place while traveling. Whether it's for gas, a bathroom break, or if you want to grab something to eat this is a one stop shop place.

Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.

Service was fine, but food quality was really low IMO. I ordered a 2-meat plate with brisket and jalapeño sausage for meats and pinto beans and mustard potato salad for sides. If I could describe the what I tasted on my order I would say it tasted like spaghettios over pot roast. Zero smoke flavor on the brisket and it was covered in a sauce that smelled heavily of tomatoes and tasted like the sauce out of a can of spaghettios. The sausage was shriveled up it was so overcooked and had zero jalapeño spice. The beans were undercooked and had zero flavor. Not much ambience to be had in the small restaurant either -- it just looked old and worn inside. Like I said, Austin's was easily the worst bbq experience I've had eating bbq across Texas in the last 5 years. Do not recommend.

It's troubling to see a business benefit from the hard work and revenue of immigrant customers, yet still allow openly disrespectful comments to be made--such as saying, "If he's here illegally, he's got to go." Regardless of anyone's background, every customer deserves basic respect and decency. Hearing statements like that creates an unwelcoming atmosphere and makes it clear that not everyone is valued the same once they walk through those doors. I believe businesses should treat all members of the community fairly, especially when they rely on that same community for support. I hope Austin BBQ reflects on how their words and actions impact the people who keep their doors open. Respect should be as much a part of the service industry as the food.

Walk up counter service with a menu split neatly into cold cut and oven baked sandwiches. Going with the Devito, my mind was thoroughly blown by how flavorful the red sauce and meats were all together, it had a combination of textures from the crusty bread cured cuts that made it fun to chew through every bite. My Stallone was also just such a pleasant mix of flavor with the pesto playing a bigger role on the cold cut options. This is one of the places where I feel like you can spin the wheel and get a winner with whatever fate decides. Things seem pretty easy and affordable here. Portions were pretty big here and around $12-$15 a sandwich, more than enough for a single person with some for a midnight snack later. There's a good bit of seating inside with some red gingham table clothes to eat over. It's worth the visit if your in Montgomery or after a day on the Lake!

My only disappointment was that the menu described it as coming on a crusty Italian roll, but the bread was soft with no crunch. A true crusty roll would have taken it from great to outstanding. The girl at the counter recommended getting the hot peppers so I got some on the side, and she was absolutely right--I'll definitely be adding those to future sandwiches. My husband ordered the Danza but accidentally received the Dinero. He still enjoyed it and gave it a solid 7/10. We also tried the Chicken Parmesan. It had good flavor, though it was a little too bread-heavy for my taste. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were more than generous. We'll definitely be back to work our way through more of the menu.

However, it was my son's birthday and he loves it, so I decided to give Woods BBQ a try. I called Mr. Woods on a Friday telling what I needed and he had it ready for pickup the next day. I'm telling you, we had ribs, brisket, sausage, mac and cheese, potatoes, beans and cabbage with cornbread. Including onions, pickles and jalapenos. I can't express to you how "good" everything was. The meat was tender and moist and not too "smokey". And the sides were seasoned to perfection. In the South we use a phrase, "you put your foot in that". And to all that don't know this phrase it simply means it was "delicious". If you don't know ,now you know ...Woods BBQ is definitely the place to get some great BBQ. Trust me when I say, you will not be disappointed. And the fact that Mr. Woods is so friendly and helpful seals the deal. A 5 star rating isn't high enough. This place exceeds that a 100 times over.
