A must stop if you are traveling between Houston and Austin on Hwy 71. I'm usually a Bucees guy,…read morebut this place specializes in something that the beaver doesn't. Kolaches! Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.

Great half way stop between Houston and Austin. Friendly gas stop / local bakery with a Texas…read moreSouthern Hospitality vibe. Gas prices were reasonable for being directly off 71 and service was friendly. Plenty of snacking choices with a local bakery with signature kolaches and Danish. Worth a look !!

Came to the restaurant and the food was delicious and great service everyone was niceread more

I just had one of the worst drive-through experiences I've ever encountered at this Whataburger…read morelocation. From the moment I pulled up, the attitude and unprofessionalism were unbelievable. Before I even said a single word, the attendant abruptly shouted, *"Can I please have a second?!"* in an irritated tone -- startling and completely unnecessary. I sat patiently for several minutes, expecting the order process to continue after she finished whatever she was doing. But instead, another vehicle pulled up in the second lane, and to my disbelief, their order was taken almost immediately while I was still waiting in silence in the first lane. After sitting there for roughly three minutes, I politely checked in to see if anyone was available -- only to be met with the **exact same rude tone**, again yelling, *"Can I have a second?!"* with heavy attitude as if I had done something wrong just by waiting. When I calmly pointed out that another car had just been served before me, she fired back sarcastically, *"Well obviously we're busy,"* instead of offering any kind of professional apology or basic courtesy. At that point, I realized there was no sense in continuing -- no customer deserves to be talked to or treated that way. The staff at this location are clearly in desperate need of customer service retraining. Rudeness, indifference, and prioritizing one car over another in the drive-through lane are unacceptable behaviors for any restaurant, let alone a national brand known for its hospitality. I ended up driving away without even placing an order, completely turned off by the unprofessional conduct and lack of respect. If this is how the team treats paying customers, it reflects very poorly on their management and on Whataburger's standards as a whole. I truly hope corporate addresses the staffing and training issues here because the current operation is an embarrassment to the Whataburger name.

Call me old fashioned, but I judge a burger joint by their standard burger. No frills, no gimmicks,…read moreno tricks. Just your standard burger, your #1. A burger has to stand on the strength of their beef, after all, and how are you going to taste that with gimmicks and special sauce? Well, I opted for the #2, which differs from the #1 in that it's a double. It is Texas Burger, and everything has to be bigger in Texas, right? The #2 is a double, 2/3 lb burger. I got the combo which came with seasoned fries and a fountain drink. You'll find no complain from me here. It's an excellent, fast food burger. The burger was size-able and juicy, and the flavor was delicious. You can compare it to the ilk of Whataburger or DQ, and that's not bad company to be in. The seasoned fries were delicious, not over cooked and seasoned just right. I am a little disappointed that this a fast food place, rather than a gourmet burger restaurant, but I'll blame the advertising on I-10 for that, and it didn't take away from the taste or experience for me.

What an experience! I decided to stop here for a burger and a shake on the way home from Houston…read moresince I had once tried the Texas Burger in Madisonville and liked it. First there was the drive-thru. The speaker doesn't work, there is no sign warning you, and somehow you are supposed to know what you want when you get to the window. Fine for those regulars familiar with the menu but they have no paper menu to look at when you get there. So the kid starts reciting it. To make it easy I ordered a double Texas burger dry with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and lots of onion. Kid didn't know what flavor ice cream for the shake they had, so he had to go look and memorize the flavors So I pay and wait. My receipt comes back saying no onion after ordering extra and nothing about dry. So they had to remake the burger and give a proper receipt. Everything was a big production, a comedy of errors by a completely clueless and incompetent crew with no adult supervision. I ate my burger while waiting for my shake and it was good. But I surely wouldn't recommend using the drive thru. Yelp was down for service else I'd have checked in. The business shares a spot with Subway and was hard to find as signage is poor despite being near the freeway.
