We were hungry after a day of hiking and geocaching and stumbled across this place when searching for something to eat. While not much to look at inside, the good food, good portions and the friendly service made this a place we would be willing to return to when back in the north Albany area. My husband ordered a steak and cheese, and though I was still deciding what I wanted myself, the response of the owners that that was a good choice sealed the deal and I got one too. Good portion of steak, cheese, mushrooms, onions and peppers, I probably shouldn't have eaten the whole thing but after building up such a hunger, and it tasting so good I just couldn't help myself. We sat inside and waited as we did not call ahead and they had to cook our steak. The owners/workers were very personable and chatted with us about our Bills gear and made the wait feel really quick. Prices were very reasonable especially in this world of inflation we all live in now. There were a few tables if you did want to sit and eat, but we took our subs to go and enjoyed the experience. read more

The place is an eye sore upon entry and the sandwiches are subpar to say the least but sometimes you gotta eat what's available to you in the area, so I do stop in for one from time to time. Today I walked in for a sub. The guy came from the back to help me and I noticed he had a greasy glove on one hand and none on the other. I began to tell him what I wanted. He put a glove on the bare hand and opened the refrigerator door below him to grab the bucket of lettuce with the hand with the greasy glove on. He then proceeded to stick the greasy gloved hand into the bucket of lettuce and began putting the lettuce on the bread for my sandwich. I brought it to his attention that that is unsanitary and I don't know how long he's had that glove on that he's using to touch the food going on my sandwich. I suggested he should change his glove and he basically told me there's no other way for him to make my sandwich like he couldn't recognize the point in which I was attempting to make. What he should have done was simply honor my request and put on a new glove but he obviously didn't care about my concern (probably because it's normal for him to be unsanitary in that way and his brain obviously couldn't grasp what I was saying to him). He just allowed me to walk out of his store not giving a care to the concerns of a paying customer. I will NEVER get another sandwich from Subs-Ta-Toot again. It's a nice local sandwich shop in Cohoes. My wife and I agree there twice and enjoyed our sandwiches and french fries. We ordered hot subs both times we went. We didn't have any cold cuts, so I can't rate those. read more

There aren't a lot of independent delis/sandwich shops in the Cohoes area that I have found yet. Subs-Ta-Toot won't blow you away like some of the Italian import stores in Albany with their lbs. of Boarshead meats but you will get a decent sub and for much cheaper than those other places. I don't know anywhere else you can get a 12" cold sub for $4.79! Thats cheaper than Subway, and anything beats Subway in my book. They have all the standard cold subs which can also be made into a wrap or sandwich and a variety of hot subs and salads along with potato nuggets. The sub rolls are a little on the soft side and the veggies are fresh and crisp. The inside is a little dingy and smelled like fryer grease but the service is fast and I got my sub to go anyway. Definitely a good option if you live in the area. read more

Holy mackerel! The place looks like a throwback to the 60's. Tired, worn out and I don't care. I had a grilled chicken sub. The best ever. Freshly cooked and sliced chicken off the bone. Basic veggies and a delicious fresh roll. I had a very interesting conversation with the owner. He is an honest hardworking man who is trying to deliver the best food he can to his customers, and he succeeds. Sandwich places like this don't exist anymore, but tucked away in Cohoes, Subs-Ta-Toot is an oasis of home cooked food in a processed no flavor desert. read more

This is my families' go to spot for ordering sub platters for parties/events, which we've done a few times within the last couple of months. Mostly out of convenience, living a few minutes away, and also the fact that their prices can't be beat. My in laws also love the meatballs that are on the catering menu which have been ordered for numerous parties as well. As another reviewer mentioned, their subs aren't as amazing as some of the authentic Italian deli's in the Capital District, but their food still hits the spot in a pinch. The interior of the shop isn't exactly impressive, but we don't sit down inside to eat, so that never bothers me at all. read more

If you only have a couple bucks and you want a sub, this is the place for you. Other than that, I'd go somewhere else. Not the best.

I grew up in New England and subs, or as we like to call them, grinders, before the big chains. Good bread, lots of meat, high quality ingredients. This is that kind of old-fashioned sub place. It's small, really a take-out place, but, for my money (and they are very reasonable), the subs can't be beat. What more can I say? The friendly staff is waiting for you - go grab a sub! read more
