Having lived in Manhattan for 6.5 years after college, I can't recall a big hot sub culture. Especially not with fillings like gyro meat within a cheesesteak. But regardless, it is nice to get a hot sub in San Francisco for lunch. This truck is OK (hence the 3-star). I enjoyed my lunch, but it's not rave-worthy or anything. Tasty and filling though. Central Park Parm: The bread was a really good match for the sandwich. Chewy (but not too much), soft and not crusty at all. Loved the abundance of provolone. A bit skimpy on the sauce (though that made lunchtime eating less messy). The chicken was just alright. I would have preferred more breading/crunch; it was very lightly coated. Also the meat wasn't that moist/juicy, kinda like it was overcooked a bit. read more

Had no intentions of eating nor buying anything. Came to the Jewelry Mart to pick up a repair item. Walking out the door, I saw this truck parked directly in front of the building and studied their menu which consisted of around seven different sandwich choices, some hot and some cold. Reading their description of presenting New York style sandwiches, their menu piqued my interest. They are quite witty in naming their sandwiches after famous NYC landmarks, mainly themed towards the city's financial market. Reading the description, I chose to order a half sandwich of the S&P (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/subs-on-hubs-san-francisco-2?select=KGpsPZRvWoJ31x1oo26L8Q#KGpsPZRvWoJ31x1oo26L8Q), Standards and Poors to those in the financial sector, but aptly titled for a sandwich consisting of sausage and peppers too. With soup waiting in my office, this would be a perfect pairing for lunch. Sadly, due to the thin yet long sausage patty, my sandwich was WAY too salty. It probably would have worked better with traditional Italian sausages (for which NYC is famous) or even sliced chorizo. For $5.00 or $6.00 for a half sandwich, this isn't unreasonable. With competition in South of Market (Deli Board & 1058 Hoagies), they need to step up their game a bit. read more

Random city find as I was walking back to my office and needed to grab a quick lunch. This food truck was well hidden on Sacramento in an alley. Looks like it is a 1 man show here and he seemed like a really nice guy. He was nice enough to make me a half and half gyro since I could not decide between the chicken and beef. I ate at this truck today at the Ocean Beach Art festival. My wife ordered the chicken gyro and I ordered the lamb. The pita was fresh, the seasoning and dressing were good as well. 10-19-16: Tastes bad and costs a sht ton. That's basically the bottom line. Today I got: 1. Bronx Bomb $11: I think it's just about a 6" sub made with lamb patties and toppings which included cheese, sauce, and veggies. I dunno.... maybe I'm too used the American way where we are trained to expect enough portions for a family on your plate, but when I see a sandwich this small costing more than a ten dollar bill, it either has to be absolutely crazy good or else it's just a rip. In this case it's the latter. Two huge things: the bread was disgustingly stale and flat. And even more so, the lamb patties were rubbery hockey pucks with a fistful of salt mixed in. The sandwich was so disgusting I threw some away despite being hungry from being forced to eat a late lunch. I ordered the Hoboken Hoagie. There wasn't as much meat as I expected - just one layer of salami, pepperoni, and ham. Everything else was just pretty standard and ordinary. For a 7 dollar sandwich I would have expect more. I'd rather go to Subway for an Italian BMT. There are 2 things that worry me more than the food: Speed and Cleanliness. While I was there, there was only one man working the truck. He was taking orders while making sandwiches and dealing with money. I would think food trucks already take awhile due to space and equipment limitations so why make it worse by only having one person working? This leads me into my second problem. Since there was only one guy, he handled EVERYTHING. The worker shook a customer's hand and went on to handle the food WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS. Later, as I handed him my money I kept muttering to myself, "Please wash your hands. Please wash your hands." BUT HE DIDN'T. Some people after me noticed and were quite upset at this, too. Get two people. Have one person handling the money. The other person washes his/her hands and handles the food. read more

Had the Wall Street S&P which tasted OK but not what I expected. Flat italian sausage patty (like a breakfast patty) instead of a link like you'd get in a real NY sub shop. The bread was OK, the sauce was fairly forgettable. The biggest issue I had though was waiting 25 minutes for a sandwich when they weren't even busy. 3 people working the truck and yet they couldn't seem to handle processing multiple orders at once -- each 'wich came out one at a time with very long slooooooow pauses in between. I'm torn between a 3-star and 4-star. I decided to deduct one star for the slow service and lack of sauce on my order. I've tried this truck only once and I think I would go back and try others if not the same thing I ordered already. It showed up in front of my work on Brannan Street between 2nd and Delancey Street. So glad it did, we need more food trucks closer in this area. The only thing on the menu that peaked my interested was the GYRO. I love GYRO but can never find somewhere close and convenient to get one. So I knew I had to get it. They have a chicken gyro and a lamb gyro, no doubt I had to get the lamb one. Otherwise I'm just eating a chicken pita/soft taco. It's true what other reviewers stated that service is reeally slow. Now they have 2 guys working in the truck, one guy making the food and the other guy taking orders and money. When I came to the truck there was no one in line, so I placed my order and I probably waited 15 min for them to make my gyro. That seems like a long time for something from a truck that should be quick. When I got my GYRO it was STUFFED. Good portion of vegetables and meat. It was hard to close and eat the thing. Jesus Christ, I'm craving one of these just writing this review. I'd been having a good time at Bloodhound and was starving. Being lazy I figured hailing a cab to Grubsteak was probably my best option. As I trudged down Folsom (probably not their regular location, likely just capitalizing on the mayhem from the Cat Club), I saw this glorious vehicle and said yes. I have an issue with (most) food trucks. I find them a combination of mediocre and overpriced. Thankfully SoH was neither. The sandwich was around $8 but it was seriously like eating a New York burrito, it was pretty large. While those things are important, what it comes down to was that it was ridiculously tasty. The Gyro Sub might have had the ingredients distributed a bit off but it was large, and delicious. The meat was juicy and tender and it seemed like I kept finding chunks when I thought I'd got through it. Lastly, the guys working the truck were nice. Figuring they might have had to deal with a line of sots roaming by from nearby Icon and Cat Club, they were in pretty good spirits and willing to engage in some conversation. Never ever had I asked for my money back from any restaurant. Here's why: 1. I waited 40mins for my order to be called 2. Only received half of my order 3. When I asked about it, they said it'll be out in 30 secs 4. After another 10 mins and other orders were being fulfilled, I asked again and they were incredibly condescending and rude I can't speak to the quality of the food, but their customer service and timeliness is incredibly poor. Just ordered the chicken gyro, and I have never had a worse sandwich. Literally. The chicken was terrible, not gyro chicken (it was some weird rubbery chunks), and so tough it literally could not be chewed. I am honestly not sure what the "chicken" substance was. Also, as another user noted, the tablet used for square was absolutely filthy and watching the guy drop a knife, pick it up and put it back on the counter made my stomach turn. I worked in kitchens for almost two decades so I know how it gets when you are really busy, but keeping things sanitary needs to always be your #1 priority. There were about 5-6 people and it took the guy 20 minutes to make a sandwich. He was very stressed, cursing, and although not unpleasant, it was also not a great experience. Subs range from Italian Meatball to Eggplant Parmesan and they are served on fresh foccaccia or sub rolls. He also serves delicious lamb and chicken gyros. These meats are marinated overnight and they truly fill your mouth with flavor. The sammies are very generous, large.....HUGE! So, bring your appetite and bring a friend. You won't be sorry you did:. I read through the reviews before heading down from our nearby apt. The reviews are all over the place, so I guess these guys need to work on their consistency. My experience was not bad. I wasn't wowed, but considering my wife wanted an Italian sub and we don't really have such in Hayes Valley, this worked for us. The bread was good, plenty of meat and veggies, and we like the vinegar and oil dressing. Felt completely satisfied with it all and my wife was happy. The guys were nice. I really hate giving places bad reviews, especially small businesses such as food trucks, but I was just flat out disappointed with what I ate for lunch today. I ordered their cold italian sandwich (hoboken something or other), the bread was unbelievably dry, it reminded me of stale subway bread. Any food establishment that "specializes" in sandwiches should really start with a damn good bread. The rest of the sandwich was scarce, not much meat and tons on lettuce. At $8.00 for a "full" which was not much bigger than a 6 inch at subway, it was a little steep. It tasted exactly like one of those safeway select sandwiches that you can get at one of Safeway's aging delis. The worst part about this whole experience was the wait, it literally took almost 25 minutes from payment to consumption when it was only me and one other dude. The idea of a sub sandwich truck is cool and should not be hindered by what I have said above, I see this truck quite often and after a few months I'll try it again, if things have improved i'll edit this with a seal of approval. read more

Their food is decent but they are slowest operating food truck I've ever seen. I've been there twice and had to wait upwards of half an hour to get a sandwich. The line wasn't even close to long. It just seems to take them forever to make a simple sandwich. I saw a man literally come on his lunch break, order, and then have to get his money back because they could not get him his food by the time his break finished. Tried these guys out at the newly opened SoMa Streat Food Park, and won't be trying them again. Their line wasn't that long, but it also wasn't moving. Only one guy behind the grill, and one girl cashiering. We got there at 1, and they were out of half of their items already, and only one meat item left. It took us 45 minutes to place our order, and another 30 minutes after we placed our orders to get our food. Talked to the Food Park office staff to see what was up, and they were equally peeved. read more

Went here for lunch since it was a new truck added to our usual off the grid line-up. Ordered the Yonkers Gyro and it was good. It wasn't knock your socks good but it definitely wasn't bad either. My friend ordered the Eggplant Parm sandwich and he said it was pretty good too. If that was all this review was about, i would have given this place 3 stars. But, i have to go on....sad to say I was off put by actions of the workers, they all seem like very nice people and I hate to write something negative about a small operation like this - but i stood and watched them hand out food and pick off pieces of rogue lettuce and eat it...which, in itself isn't bad because why waste food! What turned me off the most was i kept seeing them lick sauce off their hands if it got on there and then touch other things like it was no big deal...and then they would grab a bunch of napkins and fold them up and put them right next to each sandwich. I'm a little bit of a germaphobe so it just turned me off soo much. I just stood there thinking, "is anyone else seeing this?!" I'm not sure I would go back here again. I tried them at the Soma StrEat food park. It took about 30 minutes to get my food and there was only one person in front of me in line. When I looked at my placement in line of the tickets it didn't look like it was going to take long. The wait was so bad that this lady asked for her money back and they gave her the sandwich. They only had 1 guy working the grill and he was having a melt down. I ordered the Yonkers Gyro and it was not good. It wasn't hot at all and you would thing after 30 minutes of waiting that I would at least get a hot gyro. I asked for no onions or lettuce and when asked if I wanted feta I said no thanks. What did I get on my gyro, onions and feta. I guess 1 out of 3 isn't bad. The guy standing next to me waiting, who came after me, said that he won't come back again b/c the wait was horrific and that his friends already ordered, got their food and ate from another food truck before he even got his food. If you don't mind waiting for 30 minutes for cold food, then this is your place. Just not mine. And I was prepared to wait a while from the other reviews, but not 30 minutes. I would say either have two people work the grill and if that's can't happen, then put your menu to 3 items since that might be all that this food truck can handle. read more

I go here JUST for the Blackened Tilapia Po-Boy. Shit is the BOMB. Just the right amount of spice with fresh lettuce, tomato on a nice sandwich bun. Subs on Hubs was serving at Brews on the Bay today. They were *NOT* prepared for this event. Although, based on other reviews, maybe that's just how they roll. The only reason they get two stars instead of one is that the food was actually fairly good. But that is no excuse for taking nearly 30 minutes to make a sandwich. And there wasn't even a huge line! They were processing about 1 sandwich every 6 minutes. I don't understand how a food truck could be so slow and still operate. If you have anywhere to be in the next, say, hour after ordering, find a different place to get a sandwich. If you don't mind waiting forever, get cozy because it's going to be a while. read more

I really hate to leave a low rating, but I gots to do it. After walking around the block decided to give this truck a try. Ordered the Chicken Parm sandwich. 1st - I felt the $11 was a little steep but went for it anyway. I just don't get the food truck vibe anymore, it was a time you could get something different and great tasting for a reasonable price, but seems like no more. 2nd - Service was good, decent timing, only two others ahead of me. The owner was nice. 3rd - Now the sandwich part. The bread was fresh and good, plenty of cheese. BUT, the "breaded" chicken patty was incredibly horrible. In fact it was so nasty that literally 24 hours later, the nastiness is still bothering me. Nothing fresh about the patty, rubberized piece of chicken with soggy breading. In fact it appeared to be sitting under a heat lamp for a couple days. The breading was stale colored, not fresh, or crispy, and the meat had the consistency and taste of week old spam sitting open at room temperature. 4th - I was really sad for spending $11 on a sandwich like this, honestly, fast food breaded chicken sandwiches are better. I can't speak for the other menu items, but avoid the chicken parm sandwich. read more

I am an inpatient person and yes it did probably take a little longer than I would like but that Bronx Bomb Sandwich was AWESOME. A top 5 sandwich in my life. The gyro meat with the cheese, peppers and onions was a perfect blend and was delicious. Strongly suggest this sandwich. The only suggestion I would have is to add a hot sauce dispenser on the side for those who like extra spice or jalepenos instead of the weak bannana peppers. Overall it was a great sandwich and would love to go here again. The people working at the shop were nice guys and sometime you just have to wait a little bit longer for good solid meal. read more

I don't want to give this place a bad review, but my experience was not good. The food they were churning out looked good so I decided to give it a try. But each time I tried to order, the guy just turned around and started chopping something. When he turned around to give someone their food, I would step up and start to order but he would just turn back around and do something else. The guy behind me in line just walked away. After about 5 minutes more people had gathered and the guy was ready to start taking orders again. Instead of taking my order, he helped 2 other people first. Once I did get to order, I received my food quickly, thank you. The gyros itself wasn't bad, it needed a little more seasoning, but that's a personal choice. Good ratio of meat to veggies and a good amount of tzatziki but not too much. The "spicy sauce" wasn't spicy at all, a little disappointing, but overall a decent gyros. read more

In the meantime, some A-hole, walked up and said that he had a meeting at 2:00 and couldn't wait. All of a sudden he was served before everyone else. Hey, I had a meeting at 2:00 too, WTF?
